3/29/24, 1:19 PM - Hi KmackLike you, we did a cruise up down the Rhine. We did both a wine tasting at Bassenheimer Hof as well as a hike through the vineyards to and from Niederwaldtempel. The tasting was large (because the group was large) and (yes) a bit touristy. The wines were not remarkable, with the above being the best of the bunch. BTW, the best wine tasking we did was at Historic Wine Cellar ofStrasbourg Hospices in Strasbourg. The guide was wonderful, the surroundings spectacular, a great story and many wines to chose from. Weather dependent, the hike through the vineyards is great. If you are not up for a hike up the hill, there is a cable car that goes in both directions. The view of the Rhine is wonderful and Niederwaldtempel is historic, you can see the birth of German nationalism pre-WWI.Another very enjoyable stop was Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet Museum. Beautiful animitronics music creations. https://www.smmk.de/en/home.htmlEnjoy your trip and feel free to reach out if there other questions.
