Tasted alongside Ch Talbot 1982 and the present wine was powerful with livelier acidity but not as elegant as the matched wine.

A crisp, complex and typically elegant Morey-st-denis with bright fruit, beautifully integrated oak, perfectly balanced and sublime perfumed finish. Drink within 3-5 years.
Tasted alongside Lucien Boillot, Gevrey-Chambertin, Les Cherbaudes, 2012 and the matched wine has deeper fruit and slightly muscular but maybe not as elegant as the present wine.

Drink within 10-15 years.
Tasted alongside Keller Von der Fels Riesling Rheinhessen 2021 and the present wine is generous and complex and has more petrol notes, but not as pure acidity as the matched wine.

Tasted alongside Chapoutier, Cote-Rotie, 1978 and the matched wine has delicate fruit with orange notes and is far more developed. The present wine is at its peak and everything is in perfect harmony.

A young, slightly undeveloped but utterly promising wine with ripe yellow fruit, perfectly balanced and a nutty and blossomy finish. Hold for 5 years and drink within 15 years.
Tasted alongside de Montille, Meursault, Narvaux Dessous, 2014 and the present wine has purer fruit, complexity and a longer and subtler finish. Bravo!!.

A slightly undeveloped, mouthwatering and balanced wine with red berry fruit, tangy but promising acidity and a convincingly long smoky and perfumed finish. Drink within 7-8 years.
Tasted alongside Small Island, Saltwater River, Pinot Noir 2019 and the present wine, in contrast to the matched wine, is balanced, energetic, full of minerality and will develop nicely over the next couple of years.

Tasted alongside, Ch Laville Haut Brion 1992. The wines are both good and equally mature. The present wine is deeper in fruit and in concentration where as the matched wine has elevated acidity and more energy in comparison.

Aromas of cedar, tobacco, blackcurrant, leather, black pepper, cardamom and nail varnish. Hint of reservoir water.
Finely grained chewy tannins. Blackcurrant acids and walnut bitterness. Medium body.
Palate of prune, cassis, sloe, juniper wood, walnut, bay leaf and harrowed soil.
A dry, structure-driven and slightly fading wine with dried fruit, wonderful peppery and nutty notes and a persistent finish. Drink within 3-5 years. Tasted 2024.
Tasted alongside Guado al Tasso, Antinori, 1998, and the matched wine display far more lively fruit and generosity, while the present wine is serious and rustic with inner core and minerality.

A fruity, fresh and attractive cabernet with jammy fruit, delicate nutty and grassy aromas and rather long bittersweet finish. Drink within 10 years. Tasted 2023. Tasted alongside Penfolds bin 707, 1994. In comparison, the matched wine was muscular, deeper and a more complex wine, yet the present wine will most likely evolve into a great, subtle and multi-layered cab sauv over time.

Sweet but not over-sweet.

A rather young and muscular port with red wine attributes and elegant spices. Keep for 10+ years. Tasted 2023. Tasted alongside Graham 1985. The matched wine displayed greater complexity, while the present wine has power and a stunning structure.

Delicately sweet.

Palate of cherry, aniseed, cinnamon, milk chocolate, wet wood, candied orange and sandalwood.
A mature and vital port at its peak with vital red fruit and lovely chocolate and spicy aromas. Drink within 10 years. Tasted 2023. Tasted alongside Fonseca 2000. The matched wine has the potential to grander over time, however, today, the present wine an extra-ordinary charm.

A mature, structure-driven and multi-layered typical southern Rhone with sun-ripe, yet fading, dark fruit, beautiful balance and mouth-watering acidity. Drink within 8 years. Tasted 2023.
Tasted along with Gevrey-Charmbertin, Les Cazetiers, Leclerc, 2005. In comparison, the present wine displays livelier fruit and greater personality. All in all a greater wine.

Tasted along with Penfolds bin 707, 1994. A full bodied, mature, utterly powerful and international style wine with a truck load of dark fruit, mouth-filling spicy notes and an earthy smoky finish. Drink within 7-8 years. Tasted 2023.
In comparison, the matched wine displays an muscular inner core and more complex fruit whereas this wine relies upon racy dark fruit, power and succulent acidity.

Soft juicy tannins. Plummy acids and black tea bitterness.
Medium body.
Palate of prune, blackcurrant jam, dark plum, tobacco, leather, Asian spices and harrowed soil.
Tasted along with Penfolds bin 707 1994. A mature, rich yet elegant and easy to like Medoc-like wine with ripe and fresh dark fruit, succulent spicy notes, perfect balance and a long and energetic finish. Drink within 8 years. In comparison, the present wine is far more elegant (but not as powerful) and has a perfectly pitched balance with lively acids and lovely matured fruit.

Aromas of ripe cherry, licorice, wet tarmac, juniper berry, thyme, lavender and marzipan.
Supple tannins. Sour cherry acids and lingonberry bitterness.
Palate of cherry, redcurrant, wet grass, sandalwood, espresso and wet wood. Hint of balsamico.
A mature, rustic and somewhat ordinary Barbaresco with red fruit, surprisingly discreet perfume and fading and dried out finish. Tasted alongside Bosquet des papes, Chante le Merle, 1999. Compared to the matched wine it is drier in fruit, lacks depth and charm. Drink now. Tasted 2023.

A fully mature, rustic and still lively wine with ripe yet fading dark fruit, typical woody and herbal aromas and long mineral finish.
Tasted alongside M Chiarlo, Barbaresco Asili, 2006. Compared to the matched wine, it has generous and even sweet fruit, a personality, and a wonderful chewy finish. Slightly beyond its peak. Tasted 2023.

Tasted along with Barolo Ginistra, D Conterno, 2015. Palate of cranberry, rose, rosemary, wet grass, redcurrant and marjoram.
A young, vital, energetic wine with fresh red fruit, delicate and classical perfume and a graceful bittersweet finish. A deeper inner core and more complex compared to the Barolo. Cellar for 5 years but drink while it is still vivacious. Tasted 2023.
