January 26, 2024 - Blind. Serious, serious wine. Some greengage and caramel hints to the nose. Good poise and fabulous acidity. Feels of Grand Cru quality. With air some subtle mintiness and some subtle citrus lift. After half an hour there's some Morello cherry and raspberry fruit. A real mineral backbone too. Just goes on and on with the final few sips revealing a charming gaminess that reminds me of pheasant sausage.
December 7, 2023 - Ripe and exotic with moderate acidity, and it is truthful to the vintage. Drink up. 90-91
June 9, 2023 - Wonderful bottle immediately coming out and showing cards . Maybe not the sexiest Rousseau or vintage, but this was a great showing besting other bottles on the night. Well balanced with nuance, secondary fruit, and emotion. Right bottle right time.
February 12, 2022 - Pop n pour at casual dinner. Deep dark color. Ripe dark cherries on the nose with a lot of spiciness. Soft, velvety, rich on the palate. Lacked energy, but certainly very enjoyable for the occasion.
October 20, 2019 - Ouvert environ 5-6h avant. Nez puissant sur les fruits noirs. Même chose en bouche. C'est magnifique mais le vin est riche, dense avec une dimension sucrée prononcée qui me fait penser à du pinot hors-bourgogne. Tout s'explique au dévoilement. Un 2003 ! Certainement pas un Clos de la Roche typique mais très très bon et tient bien tête au Richebourg 2001. 93pts
January 14, 2017 - Pob gala dinner: burg al's note is a good reference. A typical 03 nose. Palate is ripe with the acidity is above average for the 03 vintage. For a true burgundy fan, the red fruit ripeness could still overwhelm other elements
October 30, 2016 - Pour le 35e de Laurence ! Belle bouteille mais manque un peu de complexité. Belle texture en bouche par contre.
August 15, 2015 - Nose of pure earthy meaty red cherry fruit. Round, balanced, polished with a seductive delicate finish that lingers. Drinking so well now and will age. Rousseau's '03's are stupendous.
April 9, 2015 - Bright red, rather clear and clean, unlike some 2003s who appear really dark and extracted. Lovely purity on the nose, lots of red roses, violets and a nice honeyed bouquet, extremely pure and brimming with vibrant red fruits. The palate was very fresh, vibrant, with red and blue fruits, coffee, toast, smoked meat, with subtle sweetness at the back palate. This is a really balanced wine, having enough acidity and purity, despite the vintage.
March 17, 2015 - Burg Dinner with Friends (Gander - New York NY): Served alongside Arlaud 1999 CdlR. Ripe black berries with some dark roast coffee and dark chocolate. Comes across as ripe like many 2003s but with above average acidity for the vintage. Very good concentration. First time I can recall trying this wine, it is a 2003 that will keep getting better from here.
