December 30, 2023 - Very dark ruby with slight brick color. High tearing. On the nose, scent of savory plums, pencil shavings, with mild soy sauce that dissipates with decant.

Full body, medium/low acidity. Still surprisingly structured with good grippiness to keep the sweetness from being cloying. Notes of licorice and dark fruit.

One of the most interesting Syrahs I’ve tasted. Very complex with a silky, rounded, luxurious mouthfeel. Probably a little bit past peak. Needed a solid 2 hours of decant to get rid of a little bit of funk and to balance it out

November 29, 2021 - Whoa, what an absolutely gorgeous wine right now! Full bodied and rich with blackberries and blueberries up front. Wonderful creamy texture with black licorice, cracked pepper and floral notes. Smooth, supple tannins and a great long finish. Just sublime right now but will easily go many more years.

November 14, 2020 - Decanted 3 hours. Big. A bit monolithic, but smooth. Definitely some heat . Alcohol is 16.4%? Ok. That's dry Port. Impressive and delicious. Very drinkable right now.

January 16, 2020 - Deep purple color. Full bodied, rich ripe plum and black currant fruit. Some black olive and leather on the finish. Dense and brooding. Potential for future aging.

September 9, 2017 - Lovely single-vineyard (single-block, I guess) expression of 100% Syrah from Paso Robles. Nothing fancy but it evolved after decanting and pouring over 90 minutes and kept getting more balanced.

March 12, 2016 - Deep dark Syrah with lovely dark fruit flavors backed up with licorice and tar. Give this a good decant to really let it express itself.

February 15, 2016 - Two for Valentines - Maybach, Epoch (Home): Purple in color. The nose is great, really deep with black raspberries, beef blood, and black pepper. On the palate, this is big. Firm tannins. Lots of black raspberry fruit. Very deep and it unwinds slowly in the glass. This needs more time. We save half the bottle for Day 2, so I will check it out later. I would still continue to hold these.

January 23, 2016 - This is a massive wine. Dark and inky. Stains the glass. While I don't often drink this style of wine, I think it is a great example of a big paso syrah. Fruit forward and high alcohol, a nice treat on a cold winter day. 8 years old now, and doesn't seem to be fading at all.

December 26, 2015 - Blind Post-Christmas Lunch Tasting: Served double blind at lunch. Inky purple to black in color. Big decadent nose has sweet blackberry compote, creosote, smoke and black pepper. Palate is also rich and decadent with sweet, jammy fruit and lower acid. Loads of spice and pepper. Just enough acid to keep the wine moving on the palate. A bruiser. Not my sweet spot these days but of a high quality.
