December 13, 2020 - Honestly I did not expect that much from that wine, younger it was very interesting, nicely sweet and a bit oaky... left some in the cellar and BOOm, Shazam... honestly one of the best pinot s of the year so far... It has a distinctive « fumé » aftertaste that reminds of the best Cru of Vosne, last that did that was la Grande Rue 2018 in spring... this tells a lot... nose of cranberries, spicy, piquante :) the palate without being huge is refined and lingers, with those nice charcoal and smokiness at th end... my friend says reduction of meet juices... to me the WOTN without a doubt

    August 18, 2016 - Decanted one hour.

    Huge, earthy nose.

Needs more time on the palate. After another hour, opened nicely.

Could use a bit more fruit for balance.

May 5, 2016 - Had this the other night so the note is from memory. Nose of red cherry, a little bit of orange peel and underbrush. Was a bit angular at first, but after a couple of hours in the decanter it really smoothed out. About two hours in, this bottle was great. light/medium bodied on the palate, with some nice acidity backing it up. Can definitely go a few more years. Really solid.

April 27, 2014 - Visit to Willamette Vally (Oregon): Nice value. Easy red fruit, slight dried roses. Touch of spice.

April 24, 2014 - Dark color for the vintage but that does not translate much to flavor profile. Good wine but 1 dimensional

March 20, 2014 - judgement of sweden - wines from oregon and washington state (Operaterassen, Stockholm): dark berries, all the elements are there, perhaps a little too much oak but still very nice stuff.

January 10, 2014 - Tasted blind. Deep color, a nose that is not expressive or varietal. In the mouth lots of acid but where are the pinot flavors? A nice red wine but frankly I am not sure I could call it a pinot in a blind tasting.

November 5, 2013 - Tart at beginning of taste, but quickly mellows a bit. Can taste some oak. Wasn't thrilled about it at first but some complexity emerged after some air. I think it is too young right now. Cellar for a couple years and I think there is promise.

October 20, 2013 - The 2011 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Premier Cuvée currently carries a rating of 86 from the CellarTracker community, which is a 2-point decline since I last looked up this wine in October of this year. Wine Spectator rates this vintage 87 points, but both CellarTracker and Wine Spectator have conferred stronger ratings (90 points) for previous vintages of this cuvee. While I am reviewing this wine two months after having consumed it, forgetting most of the intricacies of its taste profile, I do recall that I was pleasantly surprised by this pinot. At $51, I rate the 2011 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Premier Cuvée 88 points and I expect to try other vintages of it in the future.

As a final point of note, it has been commented that it may be too early to drink this pinot. The CellarTracker community currently recommends a drinking window of 2015 - 2020 for the 2011 vintage. Wine Spectator suggests the drinking window is now through 2016, but they interestingly gave the 2010 vintage a drinking window through 2018. From the ratings and the peculiar drinking window for the 2011 vintage, it would seem the 2011 vintage is a slight divergence in quality from its predecessors. This further piques my interest about future vintages of this pinot. It would be great if some informed community contributors can provide comparison notes on Willamette Valley pinots against Russian River Valley and Burgundy pinots. I'll do this experiment for myself in 2014.

Rating Scale: Extraordinary (95-100 points); Outstanding (90-94); Very Good to Excellent (85-89); Good (80-84); Average (75-79); Below average (70-74); Avoid (50-69)
