May 4, 2024 - It is a bit stern for a Volnay but there’s complexity. A touch of herbs in there. A lick of quality oak far in the background.
Aromas are quite deep, black fruits, and savoury.
Tannic too. I’m starting to think this wine needs more time, but I’m hesitant. Mystery at present.
Drink when you’re in the mood for savoury burgundy.
January 30, 2024 - Solid not wimpy but very dry, savoury.
Wouldn’t pick it as Volnay.
March 27, 2019 - Still Closed.
July 1, 2017 - Getting there but still needs time to develop some 2ndry characteristics .
April 19, 2017 - Still a bit closed - needs more time - beetroot on the nose with some spices but seems a bit shut down at present.
December 9, 2016 - From wine list at Gramercy Tavern (NYC). Pnp - we were in the mood for a nice burgundy that wouldn't totally break the bank tonight and this filled the bill. Red fruits, earthy, minerals - light on the palate with a medium finish. It really evolved as we paired it with different foods. Went best with the cheese plate at the end of the meal.
February 23, 2015 - lots of everything but closed at present. Very masculine. Revisit in 3/5 years.
June 13, 2014 - Grands Jours de Bourgogne 2014 Day 5: Volnay and Meursault, Corton 3-21-14: Bottled 15 days ago. A very masculine wine. Dark fruit, smoke, very pretty! Clay.

Also known as les Pitures Dessus. Some reduction apparent on nose. Straight forward fruit, with some grip. Not sure why he poured this wine last.
Overall these 2012s from young Francois Bitouzet Prieure are well balanced with strong fruit and are ageworthy. The whole lineup is impressive and recommended!
