February 16, 2020 - Bottled in 2014.
Lighter side of medium color. Lots of caramel and baked sugar; yeasty/Play-Doh component; nicely balanced with just a touch too much acidity that detracts from the dried fruit, especially figs on the mid-palate. A solid lasting finish but lacking the third dimension that would merit a higher score. Excellent verdelho.
April 7, 2016 - 50 years wine - surprised everyone
August 25, 2014 - The Eatery: completely dry with sweet impressions, very powerfully flavored with high acidity and crushed walnuts, molasses, coffee, pecans, dried fig; intense, slightly aldehydic, very cool flavors. Like nothing else. This should be drank as an aperitif or with braised seasoned meats/stews, anything with nuts, cheese.
January 10, 2014 - Quick taste. Rich, classic nose (though blindly I'd guess Boal), dried figs, oranges. Very rich, spicy, very good acidity. Long.
October 27, 2012 - As expected. These wines are very stable and predictable. Almonds, Vanilla, with a slight crisp acididty in there.
May 3, 2012 - Wine dinner with work colleagues (Medlar, Chelsea, London): Just the right amount of sweetness to have after dinner, this was amazing with its dried fruits, layers and layer of nuance
February 20, 2011 - Burnished colour and nose. Green tea on the palate. Moderate concentration. Medium sweet. Finishes a little short. Could do with a tad more acidity. Not overly complex but a good "budget" price vintage Madeira.
February 27, 2006 - Bottled in 2005. A very nutty nose, that’s slightly astringent. Good palate. Very good, but not overly impressive.
