  • (Disgorged in 2013, 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay)
Lovely golden yellow colour with a fine stream of bubbles showing in the glass. Yellow plums and red apples in a delicious way on the mature nose. Opens up with dark chocolate notes as well. Citrus acidity combined with red apples and a pl cream that smooths out the acidity before the bitterness on the intense and lengthy finish takes over. The vintage acidity is of course dominating on the palate, but the fruitiness is there and backing up in a delicious way.

  • Good pop from the cork. Caramel notes hint at the age on nose and palate but there's no give-away in texture or color: golden, no browning, lasting bubbles. Very nice, but there's nothing to gain by holding longer.

  • Decanted for two hours before serving. Lost bubbles but after last bottle I am confident that some air would do this wine good. I was right about that.

Some honey water tones that I often find in mature champagnes. Soya, apple juice and tomatoes on the nose.

Grape fruit, sweet liquorice, honey and pears on the palate. Some great sour caramels on the midpalate och follows through the end.

So great compared to last bottle. This is truly great. Recommend decanting!

  • Very muted pop. Bubbles okay nevertheless. Mostly secondary aromas on the nose like mature yellow apples. Something wired about the acid. Felt fine but after a while it was like stomach juices. Might just be me having a bad day.

  • Second bottle.

Same notes as last time, but it felt less complex and in less harmony than last time.

With air and some time the wine turned into a completly different story. Yes we lost all the bubbles but the wine really spoke to my palate. One bottle left and next time I will decant the wine before serving.

  • Golden yellow colour with a stream of very fine and tiny bubbles. Showing a very mature nose so typical of the-96 vintage right now. Mature apples and almost calvados like, mixed with dark chocolate and caramelization. Typical hard acidity of the vintage with darker mature fruit.

  • Yellow colour with a small amount of fine tiny bubbles.
Maturity on the nose showing caramelized toffee fudge and chocolate. The palate shows high acidity typical for the vintage. There is a very astringent and long finish showing grape fruit.

Took over an hour to open up, in the beginning it was very mute.

  • I prefer this one against 1995, crispy acidity, still young, toast, brioche, vanilla, too young, potential to 93-94

  • Short note, from memory.

Complex nose of citrus, bread, honey, minerals.
Full-bodied with excellent acidity and nice balance.
    Excellent length.

  • I never took any notes. Brought this out to celibrate my 26 th birthday.

Poured right into the glass this wine was wide open. Honey was rather present followed by lemon pie and soya. Felt like a dessert wine because there was no acid present at all on the bouquet. Then on the palate it was no doubt that this was a dry, fine champagne. Creamy, silky texture with lovely honey and some fine lemon juice in the end. Great acid balanced fine by the smooth fruit.

I never had a wine before that had such a difference between nose and taste. Everyone was overwhelmed by this. My girlfriend said that it was the best champagne she ever had. In her opinion, even better than Pol Roger WC -99 and Boizel Joyau de France -89.

I prefer other styles of champagnes, even though there is no denial that this is a well made wine.

  • Fizz Club @ Fish Club (Fish Club, Clapham): Quite a low key, musky nose. Rich, mellow and spicy palate but feels as if it might be coming apart at the seams a little. Drink up if this is representative. (*)**

  • Quite yellow. Complex. Bread and yeast notes. Not very fruity as you might expect from a champagne with a few years in the cellar but still has a citric sting.

  • Great wine, 1996 was such a good year in champagne and this wine was still very youthfull! Chalky, spicy, citrusy, mature in the same time. Very complex, a good champagne to enjoy with food, in good glasses to be able to smell it well. Well, probably one the best Champagne wines I ever tasted at that price, around 60€. The week before at had a wine from a much more famous house (DP: initials of the brand and also Double Price) and it was really less interesting, nothing compare with this one...

  • Lovely wine - real class. Nice aromas of citrus and brioche develops some bready complexity after a hour. Balance comes through in the flavour - great mix of lemony fruit, yeasty biscuit and real freshness from livening acidity. Intensity is excellent and shows real poise with a lingering toasty finish. Real finesse here.
