One of the most exciting wine visits ever for me. A rare an sensational opportunity to taste at one of my absolute favorite producers. I was especially thrilled to be able to taste the amazing 2009s.

Maison Leroy Red

  • 2007 Maison Leroy Nuits St. Georges - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
Tasting at Domaine Leroy. Dark fruit with just a hint of spice. Lots of structure, very classically Nuits St. Georges.
  • 2006 Maison Leroy Savigny-lès-Beaune - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune
Tasting at Domaine Leroy. Rich red and black fruit, very dense and concentrated. Lush mouth feel, good mouth textures. Moderate structure, making this wine very accessible today.
  • 2003 Maison Leroy Chorey-les-Beaune - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chorey-les-Beaune
Tasting at Domaine Leroy. Big fruit without being overblown. Showing a fair amount of tannin, coming across as more rustic than I'd normally expect from a Maison Leroy wine.
  • 2000 Maison Leroy Côte de Beaune Villages - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Côte de Beaune Villages
Tasting at Domaine Leroy. Bright red fruit, at a very attractive place right now. Hints of spice and floral elements on nose, same spice on the palate. Good structure and balance, so I'd expect this to have a good life ahead if well stored.

Domaine Leroy 2009 Red

  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Pommard Les Vignots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Powerful black fruit on nose with good spice. Same flavors follow through to the palate. Powerful fruit flavors, with long lingering black and red fruit on the finish. Probably the best Leroy Pommard Vignots I've ever tasted, quite possibly the best Pommard Villages wine I've ever tried. Exceptional at its level, even if not for the price where it will sell.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée Les Genaivrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Reductive nose, so a bit challenging to fully assess today, showing some red fruit and floral hints. Great spice on palate showing clove and nutmeg, alongside bright red fruit that has great length and finesse.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-Du-Milieu - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine. Starts with great floral elements and a blend of red and black fruit. Same fruit on palate, very dense for Volnay. Long and powerful end.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Narbantons - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Nose shows more spice and darker, powerful fruits. Dense black fruit follows through on to the palate, showing very round and lush character from start to finish, with tannins really just asserting themselves near the end.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Aromas started with great floral and perfumed charm along with big red fruit. Palate is very spice driven with great black and red fruit. Incredible density, powerful fruit with an exceptional finish. Always a personal favorite, this 2009 jumps near the top of my list of great vintages of Leroy V-R Beaux Monts, with 98, 99 and 93.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Less floral, more spicy on the nose, with incredibly dense black fruit. Palate shows similar flavors of blackberry close to the border of being jammy. Dense fruit shows massive minerality from the middle through to the finish.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Corton-Renardes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Truly an exceptional young Corton. Classic Leroy perfume dominates the nose with mostly back cherry aromas. Same black cherry flavors come through on the palate with bold, meaty spices. Fruit is incredibly bright and racy, this is already nicely balanced and gorgeous from start through long finish. Wow.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Romanée St. Vivant - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Floral and spicy from the start. Glorious and alluring aromatics. Lots of layers of flavors unfold showing nuanced flavors of fruit and spice evolving even in just the few minutes I could enjoy this wine from barrel.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Richebourg - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Spicy and floral, just one notch below the RSV just tasted. Powerful fruit shows great combination of black and red fruit with great spice balanced in seamlessly.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Clos Vougeot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Powerful black fruit on the nose, lots of spice. The most masculine wine in the Leroy 2009 lineup. Probably also the most noticeable tannins today. Black cherry and blackberry flavors take charge, with a dense, powerful and long finish.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Musigny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Starts amazingly floral with great spice support and red fruit. Fruit evolves on palate toward balance of red cherry and black cherry, along with amazing spice. Completely balanced already out of barrel. Finish shows explosive and powerful fruit that is completely alluring. It is a rare treat to ever have Leroy Musigny and standing next to the two barrels produced in 2009 makes it easy to understand why it is so hard to find this wine. Exceptional.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Clos de la Roche - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Again floral and spicy to start. Lots of black fruit on the nose, then evolving towards a combination of red and black on palate, that really shows great power on the finish. Showing some of the best minerality in the Leroy 2009 lineup today.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Latricières-Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Starts with lots of Asian spice of black fruit aromas. Same dark fruit on palate, showing lots of power and density, a bit less finesse.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Starts with big black fruit and powerful meaty spice and then floral elements in the background. Blackberry and black cherry on the palate also with great meaty spice. Tannins and acidity nicely balanced, helping provide lift and structure for the wine's long, sensational finish. Exceptional.

Maison and Domaine Leroy White

  • 2001 Maison Leroy Montagny 1er Cru Blanc - France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Montagny 1er Cru
Tasting at Domaine Leroy. Fresh and lively with lots of acidity and bright fruit. Very charming today.
  • 2007 Maison Leroy Meursault 1er Cru Bouchères - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting at Domaine Leroy. Fragrant and perfumed nose that is really alluring. Good fruit on the palate with lots of lemon and lemon zest flavors. great minerality and acidity. Impressive.
  • 2006 Maison Leroy Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embrazées - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at Domaine Leroy. Big and lush fruit, very demonstrative of the vintage.
  • 2004 Maison Leroy Puligny-Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Tasting at Domaine Leroy. Charming floral nose. Round fruit with good acidity on the moderate finish.
  • 2009 Domaine Leroy Corton-Charlemagne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Floral nose with lots of lush fruit. Peach and apricot on the nose, then continuing on to the palate as well. Rich, luxurious and decadent flavors from beginning to end.
