One of the most exciting wine visits ever for me. A rare an sensational opportunity to taste at one of my absolute favorite producers. I was especially thrilled to be able to taste the amazing 2009s.
Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Powerful black fruit on nose with good spice. Same flavors follow through to the palate. Powerful fruit flavors, with long lingering black and red fruit on the finish. Probably the best Leroy Pommard Vignots I've ever tasted, quite possibly the best Pommard Villages wine I've ever tried. Exceptional at its level, even if not for the price where it will sell.

Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Reductive nose, so a bit challenging to fully assess today, showing some red fruit and floral hints. Great spice on palate showing clove and nutmeg, alongside bright red fruit that has great length and finesse.

Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Aromas started with great floral and perfumed charm along with big red fruit. Palate is very spice driven with great black and red fruit. Incredible density, powerful fruit with an exceptional finish. Always a personal favorite, this 2009 jumps near the top of my list of great vintages of Leroy V-R Beaux Monts, with 98, 99 and 93.

Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Less floral, more spicy on the nose, with incredibly dense black fruit. Palate shows similar flavors of blackberry close to the border of being jammy. Dense fruit shows massive minerality from the middle through to the finish.

Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Truly an exceptional young Corton. Classic Leroy perfume dominates the nose with mostly back cherry aromas. Same black cherry flavors come through on the palate with bold, meaty spices. Fruit is incredibly bright and racy, this is already nicely balanced and gorgeous from start through long finish. Wow.

Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Powerful black fruit on the nose, lots of spice. The most masculine wine in the Leroy 2009 lineup. Probably also the most noticeable tannins today. Black cherry and blackberry flavors take charge, with a dense, powerful and long finish.

Barrel tasting at Domaine Leroy. Starts amazingly floral with great spice support and red fruit. Fruit evolves on palate toward balance of red cherry and black cherry, along with amazing spice. Completely balanced already out of barrel. Finish shows explosive and powerful fruit that is completely alluring. It is a rare treat to ever have Leroy Musigny and standing next to the two barrels produced in 2009 makes it easy to understand why it is so hard to find this wine. Exceptional.

Blackberry and black cherry on the palate also with great meaty spice. Tannins and acidity nicely balanced, helping provide lift and structure for the wine's long, sensational finish. Exceptional.

2003 Maison Leroy Chorey-les-Beaune
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chorey-les-Beaune
Tasting at Domaine Leroy. Big fruit without being overblown. Showing a fair amount of tannin, coming across as more rustic than I'd normally expect from a Maison Leroy wine.

2000 Maison Leroy Côte de Beaune Villages
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Côte de Beaune Villages
Tasting at Domaine Leroy. Bright red fruit, at a very attractive place right now. Hints of spice and floral elements on nose, same spice on the palate. Good structure and balance, so I'd expect this to have a good life ahead if well stored.
