| | We enjoyed a vertical tasting of La Lagune with our friends. Most of us were novices as "vertical tasters", but we were lucky to be able to count on the presence of Eric from Eurowines in Stockel (Brussels) to help us navigate through the vintages - thanks Eric! Overall a great experience, with surprising results on the "modern" vintages, with 1999 as the winner! 1978 best of the "old vintages" flight. Interesting complement with Lagrange 2002 and Corison 1992.
Nous avons eu le plaisir de partager une dégustation verticale de La Lagune avec nos amis. La plupart d'entre nous étaient novices comme "dégustateurs verticaux" mais nous avons eu la chance de pouvoir compter sur la présence d'Eric d'Eurowines à Stockel (Bruxelles, Belgique) pour nous aider à naviguer à travers les millésimes - merci Eric! Au bilan une expérience fantastique, avec des résultats surprenants sur les millésimes "modernes": 1999 vainqueur! 1978 le meilleur des "vieux". Dark ruby color. Sweet cherry nose. Warm in mouth with already well integrated tannins. Oak is still heavily present. Medium finish. Overall very good. Decanted 1 hour; can still last for 5-10 years.
Robe rubis sombre. Nez de cerise. Chaleureux en bouche avec des tannins déjà surprenamment bien intégrés. Le bois est encore très présent. Finale moyenne. Au bilan très bon. Décanté 1 heure; se gardera encore 5-10 ans. (89 pts.)

Ruby color with little evolution. Very discrete nose; is the wine still closed today or disappointingly dry, with almost no fruit. Oak overly present to my taste. Medium length. Decanted 90 minutes ahead (maybe not enough?); try again next year.
Robe rubis peu evoluée. Nez très discret: le vin est-il encore fermé ou trop sec, avec trop peu de fruit? Le chêne est trop présent à mon goût. Longeur moyenne. Aéré 90 minutes (pas assez?); à réessayer l'an prochain. (85 pts.)

Ruby color with some signs of evolution on the rim. Very fruity nose, with hints of cherry. Voluptuous in the mouth. The oak is still very present but well integrated. Fine tannins. A bit short. No need to decant anymore. This very good wine is at its plenitude and should be drunk within the next 1-2 years.
Couleur rubis avec quelques signes d'évolution au bord. Nez très fruité, avec des notes de cerise. Voluptueux en bouche. Le bois est encore bien présent mais bien intégré. Tannins raffinés. Un peu court en bouche. Ce très bon vin est à sa plénitude et devrait être bu dans les 1-2 ans. (88 pts.)

Purple color - no evolution. Fruity nose. Fills the mouth. Dense tannins with not too much oak. Average length. Excellent wine (the best of the evening) with good aging potential. Decanted 90 minutes; would try again in 2-3 years; will last until 2012-15?
Couleur pourpre - pas de traces d'évolution. Nez fruité. Emplit la bouche de tannins serrés; boisé sans excès. Longueur moyenne. Vin excellent (le meilleur de la soirée) avec bon potentiel de vieillissement. Aéré 90 minutes; à réessayer dans 2-3 ans; se gardera jusqu'en 2012-15? (90 pts.)
- 1993 Château La Lagune - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
Evolved color turning towards orange on the rim. "Mixed" nose of fruits and dead leaves. The wine feels old for its age with completely integrated tannins. Average length. Appears to have hit its peak a couple of years ago. Drink now.
Couleur évoluée tournant vers l'orange sur les bords. Nez "mixte" fruité et feuilles mortes. Le vin paraît vieux pour son âge, avec des tannins totalement fondus. Longueur moyenne. Je pense qu'il a atteint son apogée il y quelques année déjà. A boire. (85 pts.)
- 1983 Château La Lagune - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
Evolved color with discoloration on the rim. Unpleasant nose. Short in mouth - little complexity. This wine has been on a downward slope for a while.
Robe évoluée, bord décoloré. Nez peu plaisant. Court en bouche - peu de complexité. Ce vin me paraît être sur la pente descendante depuis quelques années. (83 pts.)

Evolved color with orange hues. Pleasant nose with remaining fruity scents. In the mouth there is still a lot of body at the start; unfortunately the fruit soon dissipates and one is left with rather dry tannins. Nevertheless a very good wine, the best of the evening for "old" vintages. To drink now.
Robe évoluée avec des reflets orangés. Nez plaisant avec de beaux restes fruités. Encore beaucoup de corps à l'attaque en bouche; malheureusement le fruit disparaît rapidement et il nous reste des tannins assez secs. Malgré tout un très bon vin, le meilleur de la soirée dans les "vieux" millésimes. A boire. (88 pts.)

Evolved color with orange hues. Surprisingly closed nose given its age. In the mouth there are still very powerful tannins but little fruit. Ah... this 1975 vintage...
Overall still quite good; will probably keep like this for a couple of more years. Will try to decant it next time.
Robe évoluée avec des reflets orangés. Nez étonnamment fermé étant donné son âge. En bouche on retrouve des tannins encore très puissants mais peu de fruit. Ah... ce millésime 1975... Au bilan pas mal du tout quand même; se gardera sans doute encore quelques années. J'essaierai de le décanter la prochaine fois. (86 pts.)

Evolved color and discrete nose. All tannins are gone, and one is left with almost pleasant "grape juice" but that does not make it a great wine... Clearly over the hill. A shame... still worth it as "birth year wine"!
Robe évoluée et nez discret. Les tannins ont disparu, et l'on reste avec du "jus de raisin" presque plaisant, mais cela n'en fait pas un grand vin.. Clairement sur la pente descendante depuis quelque temps déjà. Quel dommage... mais chouette quand même comme "vin anniversaire"! (83 pts.)
Others - 2002 Château Lagrange (St. Julien) - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Youthful purple color. Heavily oaked nose, with scents of toasted bread. Still very young in the mouth; nice tannins but a bit too much oak to my taste. Average length. Very good. Wait another 3-5 years and then drink until 2015.
Robe pourpre fringante de jeunesse. Nez fortement boisé, avec des notes de pain grillé. Encore jeune en bouche; jolis tannins mais un peu trop boisé à mon goût. Longueur moyenne. Au bilan très bon. A attendre encore 3-5 ans et ensuite à boire jusqu'à 2015. (88 pts.)
- 1992 Corison Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley
Evolved color. Good fruit on the nose. At maturity: well integrated tannins, still a lot of body. Lacks somewhat complexity; average length. Very good wine.
Couleur évoluée. Nez bien fruité. A maturité: tannins bien intégrés, encore beaucoup de corps. Manque quelque peu de complexité. Très bon vin. (88 pts.)
