Tasted by oenanthe on 5/11/2024 & rated 93 points: Alex's TWS dinner (Noizé, London): Dark copper, quite evolved, but still glowing. Marmalade, apricot, manuka honey, this is rich, floral, oily and quite lovely. Just love how this plays with your tongue, vibrant and alive, the sweetness and acidity are in balance and this will go the distance. Delicious now. Everyone should drink more Sauternes, the QPR is absurd and it is rare you ever get a duff bottle. (803 views)
Tasted by maaike2 on 4/1/2024 & rated 94 points: Fruit and perfect botrytis, good acid support, mild bitters, mouth filling, and long. Fantastic wine. One of the best P/Q sauternes wines. (1246 views)
Tasted by eschaefer on 3/28/2024 & rated 96 points: Deep golden honey hue. Excellent texture and mouthfeel. A little “thinner” than I like and one of the reasons d’yquem is always 100 when others are 96. I believe this wine was scored 100 by the pros and I can see that but tonight it was just a little flat to me. Explosive aromas of white peach, honey, apricot and caramel. It was delicious and everyone’s glasses were empty within a few minutes. Great choice by Ken Fredrickson. Highky recommended and top of the line QPR (1160 views)
Tasted by theraredram on 3/17/2024 & rated 80 points: It's worth mentioning that out of the two halves we had, the darker was atrocious. It was petrol fumes and plastic. The second lighter however was an absolute delight. Apricot forward with quince and white flower, nectar running all the way through. Spectacular. (1344 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 3/9/2024 & rated 93 points: Small Tasting & Dinner with Friends: Half bottle. Darker color as many '03s show. Apricot syrup and pear with a hint of spice on the back end. Typical Suduiraut richness. Lovely. (R&D) (1491 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 2/25/2024: apricot, cinnamon, citrus.... lovely! (1417 views)
Tasted by Max S. on 2/12/2024 & rated 94 points: Golden brown, leaning brown. Lychee, apple, orange peel, caramel, almost burnt caramel. Solid finish, good acid but not great. A little bit higher on the sweet-acid ration than I'd like, but not bad by any means!

Tasted on day 1 without note, note is from day 3 after being stored in fridge. (1367 views)
Tasted by JonnyG on 1/25/2024 & rated 90 points: Lesfleurs+: A generous glass from a 750 opened the previous evening. Burnished orange in color, with evident viscosity. A muted nose showing hints of quince and marmalade. Spice and tropical fruit notes join on the palate, though the wine would benefit from more acidity to add a bit of tension. A very long finish. (1483 views)
Tasted by Bubblesearcher23 on 1/10/2024 & rated 96 points: From a half bottle. Amber brown in color. On the nose, burnt apricot, vanilla, elderflower, coconut, toasted bread. The nose is super complex and keeps changing. Mouthfeel is viscous and balanced, with well integrated acidity. Initial sweetness like candied fruits, coconut comes across, reminds me of milk toast, with some burnt caramel on the finish. This is delicious and complex. Everything I want in a moderately-aged Sauternes. I could see this continuing to develop, even in a 375 format. (1602 views)
Tasted by pdadams66 on 12/31/2023 & rated 92 points: Light bronze center, yellow rim.
Apricot jam, grilled lemons, a little smokey, touch of coconut and lime.
Smooth, sweet and refined, stone fruit and baked apple, not very tropical, barley sugar, baked citrus fruit, a little toasty, good acidity, fantastic long fruit-driven finish. As it opens up there are more flavors of orange blossom and almond cake.
Excellent Sauternes. Mature (in 750ml) but still has the legs to go for a few more years. (1276 views)
Tasted by johnnyrichardson on 12/27/2023 & rated 92 points: Down to my last couple of bottles (375ml), still a top sauternes drinking beautifully but I wouldn't hold half-bottles much longer..full bottles probably have a longer future. (1240 views)
Tasted by mattb76 on 11/18/2023: At 20, this is so enjoyable - apricots and honey comb, rich, and balanced. (1566 views)
Tasted by sjfunkenhauser on 8/27/2023 & rated 92 points: Dark amber colour.

Medium (+) aromas of ripe apricot, grilled peach, dried orange, marmalade, ginger, nutmeg, crystalized honey, honeycomb, dried flowers, hay, honeycomb.

Pronounced palate.

Medium (+) body, medium (+) acidity, long finish, luscious sweetness. (2054 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 8/26/2023 & rated 92 points: 4th Saturday Brown Bagger (R&D’s): Light golden color. Delightful tropical bouquet with pineapple, mango and marmalade with stone fruit undertones. Hints of warm spice as well. Rich and layered, with stone fruit and papaya. Balancing acidity; long finish. (R&D) (2200 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 8/3/2023: I liked this and thought it had more acid and energy than the last time I had it. Classic Sauternes flavors with a little bit of spice. Nice bottle. (1908 views)
Tasted by Max S. on 7/1/2023: Suduiraut flavor profile, but acid is a little bit lower than the best years. I like it now in 375, and wouldn't give it more time. (2017 views)
Tasted by RGCM Gananda on 6/17/2023 & rated 94 points: Prior bottle was 2 years and seven months ago and this wine continues to show impressively. Deep caramel notes as well as orange and honey on the nose. Between medium and full bodied with golden peach and golden pineapple along with some yellow/gold apple as well as other tropical notes behind. Mid-body shows a lot of richness and depth and brings out the honey and caramel qualities. But the wine overall and the fruit notes specifically continue to feel very well supported and defined by the acidity and tart qualities on the backside. The wine has plenty of richness, but these contrasting notes bring a lot of balance to the wine. There may certainly be bottle variations, but this particular bottle showed beautifully. I'll wait on my next bottle until at least November 2023. (1974 views)
Tasted by Bottle Dog on 4/10/2023 & rated 94 points: Beautiful golden. The nose is honey, grilled peaches, white flowers and sugared oranges. Heavy in body, yet light on the tongue. Good backbone of acidity and not overly sweet,. Very enjoyable. Drink now, but waiting will work as well. (2093 views)
Tasted by Mark1npt on 3/17/2023 & rated 94 points: Beautiful dark golden honey color in the glass. Opened later in the evening by host KenK and thoroughly enjoyed. I am a sucker for these beautiful dessert wines from France. This has such a nice creamy mouth feel, it just glides without being syrupy. There's good acid to play against the honeyed apricot and maple flavors. This still has a good ways to go, so no hurry opening these. What a treat! Thanks, Ken. (3063 views)
Tasted by RickyT12 on 3/5/2023 & rated 92 points: Caramel color
Nose is wonderful. Lemon, bergamot tea, hints of maple syrup, honey, a bit of new plastic pool toy, a bit of orange cake on the nose. Definitely peaking, no upside from here IMO. Weight is medium on its way to light. Flavor tea component is major and really nice. I feel it lacks a bit of depth that I have seen with some of the great aged sauternes. Honey suckle, nice floral component, slight orange zest. Enjoyable, and in good showing, just not top tier wine. (2181 views)
Tasted by Loathesome on 1/9/2023 & rated 93 points: Worryingly golden but so much concentration, richness, caramel but with a good amount of all important acidity. Balance very good and a really voluptuous sauternes from an almost too hot year. Excellent. (2676 views)
Tasted by Nick72wine on 12/25/2022 & rated 93 points: Delicious drop of Sauternes, not over the top, got caramel, espresso notes and christmas spices going on,bit of dried apricots, lovely balance on the palate, rounded with just the right amount of acidity to keep it lively. Very good wine.....ready now but will last another 5/10 years. (2317 views)
Tasted by Irish_Wine on 11/1/2022 & rated 93 points: Deep amber.

Medium plus intensity on the nose with dried apple, baked apple, baked peach, hay, raisin, cinammon, honey, mushroom, hazlenut, caramel and mushroom. Fully mature.

Pronounced and sweet on the palate with marmalade coming through. Medium plus acidity, high alcohol, full body, long finish.

Drink now or suitable for further aging. (1023 views)
Tasted by Srabkin90 on 8/16/2022 & rated 94 points: Opened this after a lovely dinner for dessert. This is my first Sauternes, and wow!

On the nose, baking spice, caramel, orange peel, apricot and dried fruit. Initial sips were layered and complex. Orange peel, ginger, vanilla, baking spice and dried fruit. Oil and buttery mouthfeel and amazingly well balanced.

Sweet, but not overwhelming, with pronounced acidity and sublime smoothness. Full bodied and lucious.

Med+ finish with floral notes, cinnamon, orange peel and honey.

This was phenomenal. (3150 views)

Chateau Suduiraut Sauternes Bordeaux France

Just down the road from Yquem, is the large, beautiful estate of Suduiraut, 40 km from Bordeaux. On the left bank of the Garonne, Comte Blaise de Suduiraut built the this noble and aesthetically brilliant Château that is replete with stunning gardens designed by the very famous Le Nôtre. Suduiraut is one of the great wines of Sauternes, reknowned for their aromatic complexity and wealth of exotic flavours. The Château’s privileged sandy soils are well-drained and layered with gravel. In September misty mornings are followed by warm afternoons that allow for the development of botrytis cinerea, or noble rot. This in turn delivers the rich and distinctive taste of sweet but balanced wines kissed by honey and marked by lively acidity and opulent textures.

Their experience of assemblages of Sémillon (90 %) and Sauvignon (10 %) offer a full-bodied wine of a beautiful gold colour with amber tinges. The wine lies in wooden barrels for 18-24 months. This Sauternes displays harmony, power and marked complexity.

Bordeaux Wine Guide

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman

Sauternes

Le Grand Crus Classés de Sauternes et Barsac 1855 (Crus Classés de Sauternes et Barsac) - Read more about Sauternes, Barsac and its wines
– Read more about the 1855 Sauternes Barsac Classification

Forty kilometres south of Bordeaux, Sauternes is an AOC that includes together 5 communes, including Barsac. For centuries, humans have been patiently learning to master this region's climate, soils and grape varieties. But Mother Nature did a good job laying the foundation. The Sauternes terroir is distinguished by a geological predisposition to gravel and pebbles that cover limestone streaked with veins of clay. In the communes of Fargues and Sauternes, a layer of hardpan (iron-oxide cemented sand) in which vines flourish can be found. The vineyards at the highest elevations and farthest from the river have the best terroirs and produce the majority of the Crus Classés, including the monumental Château Yquem.Sauternes wines are made from Sémillon (80% of vines planted) and Sauvignon (15%) grapes. A bit of Muscadelle occasionally is used to give the wines an untamed touch. Sauternes have an "aged gold" colour that is denser and darker than other dessert wines. When they age, they develop a stunning amber colour. The nose has aromas of flowers and fruit that melt together to create a bouquet of remarkable complexity and balance. The primary aromas include almond, quince, mango, pineapple, stewed peach, dried apricot and passion fruit. There are also floral notes, with touches of linden, acacia, mimosa and honeysuckle. And as is typical with Sémillon, there are also notes of beeswax, almond and hazelnut. In the mouth, Sauternes wines have a powerful style that is viscous but extremely elegant. Its strong sweetness is captivating. Finally, its aromatic finish is something that simply must be experienced.

2013 Vintage Notes:
"the extractive ratios in th[is] year are in the phenomenal range and there's ripeness/botrytis to cover two treks around the globe [...] so appealing is the immediacy of the wines. Many can be enjoyed now for their sheer joy and delicious nature. [Some] should also age" - Jon Rimmerman

2014 Vintage Notes:
"a golden vintage for Sauternes. It may not have the depth or weight of 2010, but it has some of the richness. What has set 2014 apart is the intense lime and lemon flavors that cut into any overblown cloying character and allow both the fruit and the honeyed noble rot to sing." - Wine Enthusiast
