Tasted by Barks on 3/24/2024 & rated 91 points: Very much enjoyed my last two bottles of this wine. Still some fruit, very smooth and drank very well. Certainly one to drink now. (380 views)
Tasted by CarpeDiem! on 2/17/2024 & rated 91 points: Exactly where you want this wine to be. Noble cask, leather, caramel, chocolate, tobacco, toast, roast aromas. A pleasure! Drink now and over the coming 3-4 years. (217 views)
Tasted by PSPatrick on 12/20/2023 & rated 90 points: Good fruit, black currant, blackberry, dark cherry, herbal notes, leather, tobacco, gingerbread, and spices, with medium-level acidity, round, well-integrated tannin, and good length. Classic profile, with good balance and average concentration. The tannin turns a little rustic on day two, but other than that the wine still drinks well the second night. Classic Bordeaux. Drink now. (796 views)
Tasted by CarpeDiem! on 11/12/2023 & rated 91 points: Perfectly matured and very enjoyable PL. Noble cask, leather, caramel, chocolate, tobacco, toast, roast aromas. Drink now and over the coming 3-4 years. (555 views)
Tasted by DaleW on 8/22/2023: Not a match with food, but knew one guest wanted red (and prefers Bordeaux). Some cassis and plum, ripe ‘00 fruit, but the charred oak notes really dominate. We’ll see if time helps but hard to enjoy now. B-/C+ (1101 views)
Tasted by Julian Marshall on 8/22/2023 & rated 90 points: Six years after the last bottle, this was interesting to try again: red cherries and cranberries on the nose and palate, with plenty of concentration, still very vigorous. At this stage, it is however lacking in elegance and I found it rather hard work, edging towards a certain stodginess. It could improve, because it certainly tastes very youthful still. (1158 views)
Tasted by Whine-oh on 3/25/2023 & rated 93 points: The candid for sediment, as well as some light air approximate two hours before dinner. Moderate amount of sediment. Still nice dark red with minimal bricking. Reticent, nose of dark fruits and earth. Wonderful for the tonight, no major funk. Nice soft mouth feel. Good fruit and soft grained tannins tonight. Great mouth feel and went well with marinated grilled tri-tip. A pleasure and a great reminder of a trip to Bordeaux several years ago. (1234 views)
Tasted by CarpeDiem! on 3/17/2023 & rated 93 points: Perfectly matured and very enjoyable PL. Noble cask, leather, caramel, chocolate, tobacco, toast, roast aromas. Drink now and over the coming 3-5 years. (1041 views)
Tasted by CarpeDiem! on 3/2/2023 & rated 92 points: Call it postitive bottle variation - this one really stuck out of the lot so far. Noble cask, leather, caramel, chocolate, tobacco, toast, coffee - a more than worthy companion of our sirloin. That's when patience is worth every dime. Drink now and over the coming 3-5 years. (1072 views)
Tasted by humagne on 2/20/2023 & rated 89 points: Initially bell pepper, smoke, tobacco, spices. With time, more spices and dried herbs. Good structure, still plenty of tannins. Medium length. (826 views)
Tasted by bobbylion on 2/9/2023 & rated 91 points: 4 hrs slo ox, 1,5 hrs decant Fully resolved. Could be anything, really. Pleasant drink with zero upside potential. Maybe I gave it too much air. Hopefully only one bottle left. Sweetish, honey-like juice. Drink up. (897 views)
Tasted by GrapeScott on 6/16/2022 & rated 91 points: Lots of cedary oak on the nose, to go with some smoke, coffee and Pauillac-like pencil lead. There is a strong core of cassis and black plum fruit, with a midpalate that is rich and a bit smokey, finishing long with mild, lingering tannins. The bright red fruits (red currant, tart cherry) that I associate with Pessac linger on the back end. Well into its secondary development, but still going strong. This has the mark of a wine that saw a bit too much oak in its youth, but it's well integrated now, and this is in a very good place. (1510 views)
Tasted by cos65 on 6/11/2022 & rated 91 points: Clear garnet ruby.
Earthy aromas
Sweet savoury cherry flavors. Absolutely in a sweet spot right now. Lovely balance and not seeming to be in any danger. (1237 views)
Tasted by Whine-oh on 5/13/2022 & rated 90 points: Decanted for mod sed 1-2 hours before pouring. Minimal bricking. No funk but very Bordeaux in style. Medium bodied, dark fruit and earth, a little angular in its profile. Nice and a great reminder of a good time in Bordeaux. (1291 views)
Tasted by Putnam Weekley on 5/8/2022 & rated 90 points: Mulch. Graphite. Mushrooms. Black licorice. Measured texture. Assertive, pointillist tannins. Searing, astringent rope resins. Green canopy centered on a black berry. Umami. It responds well to rare steak, but it was at its very best with a cheesy, American goulash. I remember drinking this almost 20 years ago—it was brutally astringent and lean then, and now it seems to have relaxed a bit. I suppose another ten years might suit it. Both experiences are hard to square with notes in print that I've seen, like "cherry jam-scented," and "supple-textured, voluptuous, fat, fleshy, low-acid wine." (1799 views)
Tasted by Binder on 2/12/2022 & rated 91 points: 21 year old and still full of life. (1502 views)
Tasted by DaleW on 9/28/2021: bit oaky and glossy. I loved the ‘90 and ‘98 with some age, but don’t remember this degree of oakiness or density. Comes across as quite modern, still some structure, maybe the oak will integrate- maybe not. B- (1633 views)
Tasted by MrMoose on 9/26/2021 & rated 92 points: dark, brooding and showing remarkably well-the best one I've tasted w/typical tobacco, saddle leather, & forest floor earthy notes. Rich and elegant w/no browning whatsoever............. (1412 views)
Tasted by efeldhake@yahoo.com on 3/12/2021 & rated 90 points: Deep garnet in color with slight bricking edges. Nose of dark cherries, tobacco, and hints of plum. Tastes of dark cherries, leather, and hints of smoke box and earth. Medium tannins and fading fruit. Just past prime. Drink over the next 3 years. (2187 views)
Tasted by millej on 1/11/2021: Shows very young. I'm hoping that with more age it will integrate its oak as right now smooth oak notes are the predominant flavor. People who don't mind that might enjoy this but I could barely finish one glass.

This is no 1990. (2500 views)
Tasted by bobbylion on 1/3/2021 & rated 91 points: Nose punches well above its weight. Tannins are still very present, so is some acidity. I think this can go for good 5 years or more. This comes from a very cold cellar and is now, after 2 hrs of decant still too cold. The fruit might be more present when it warms up, deserving an uplift to 92, considering great QPR here. (2130 views)
Tasted by pleigh on 12/6/2020 & rated 90 points: So interesting. Evolved sell and vintage helps (1945 views)
Tasted by Jeepen on 11/8/2020 & rated 87 points: I decanted 2 hrs Ok not exciting
Others like it so i will try again
4 hrs after opening Emi said it improved alot (1954 views)
Tasted by ohne_musik on 10/18/2020 & rated 90 points: Perfect cork. This has a knockout nose - Pessac through and through. On the palate, it’s a bit more four square and not quite as head-turning, but is still classic old school left-bank. Fruit is gently faded, with tertiary notes of savory marinade (soy, Worcestershire), iodine, leather and a bit of scorched earth which mellows after 3 hours in the decanter. Not as complete as the 1990, but still very charming. Seems unlikely to improve, but also not in danger of fading anytime soon. (1564 views)
Tasted by swiftr on 10/7/2020 & rated 91 points: Still in perfect condition, with lots of fruit and medium body. Not a blockbuster but delicious. (1281 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
