Tasted by rocknroller on 4/7/2024 & rated 94 points: Don & The Shrimpheads (Craig & Nita's Place): Light gold color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. More bold than the Comte before it, just a touch of oxidativeness creates a different vibe; apple, quince, ginger and sour dough on the nose. The palate is bigger and layered, with apricot jam, Grand Mernier, lemon confit, apple peel, subtle cherry, subtle toast. 94+pts. (3119 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 4/7/2024 & rated 94 points: Local Minneapolis Chef extraordinaire Don Saunders cooked for 8 Shrimpheads at my place. We highly recommend hiring Don to cook for in home events! Dave Ds marvelous btl tonight. Love Krugs in your face Gusto & power fueling its nuanced flavors. A wonderful flt w/ Candace's sublime 06 Comte! Edge goes to the Comte for my palate. 94+ (3047 views)
Tasted by palfr2 on 3/30/2024: Home drinking with improvised tapas/pintxos with my favorite anchovies - was supposed to be a 166/2010 base according to my Cellartracker inventory. I am not worse off for the retailer or auction's house mistake as the 168 iteration showed amongts the best in a recent vertical I attended. It has all the flavours you associate with masterfully executed Champagne blend whether the bruised apples from the PN, apricot from the Meunier etc... It is all the Champagnes in one! How everything is woven together into a spherical package is extarordinary. The Grandes Maison's best response to the best Grower offerings! There is amazing midpalate richness and yet it is perfectly countenanced by the drive and acidity. Very sapid and long on the finish. (2679 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 3/14/2024 & rated 95 points: Best bottle (Belsers Restaurant, Nürtingen): Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux
From Magnum. Clear medium golden color. Beautiful fine, deep, complex and smoky nose with fine yeast notes. Lovely.
On the palate fresh as a daisy, beautifully balanced, elegant, nice tension, fine mousseux, long and lingering. What a great start into the evening! 94-95 (3274 views)
Tasted by vespa110 on 3/13/2024 & rated 93 points: Giallo paglierino scarico, naso fresco agrumato, scia minerale ma non molto espressivo... bocca suntuosa per freschezza, volume e scia salina fruttata. NECESSITA DI 3\5 ANNI, come minimo. (3463 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 2/24/2024 & rated 90 points: MAGNUM Vintage Port (CUT restaurant Beverly Hills): Out of Jeroboam. Very fine color, just lacking in the delivery and finish. A bit disappointing. (3359 views)
Tasted by Tgood on 2/21/2024: Deep dull gold - caramel, ginger, brioche - dense and tart - a treat. (3620 views)
Tasted by Beachfan on 2/17/2024 & rated 95 points: Mind blowingly good, Meyer lemon, with just a touch of brioche. From 750.

5 minute finish! (3327 views)
Tasted by acyso on 2/16/2024 & rated 93 points: kɹʌɡ wɪθ dʌɡ (Chicago, IL): Really liked this tonight -- perhaps more than the others at the table. It's juicy and fleshy, and very much a heart-on-its-sleeve kind of Krug, but there's something really drinkable and easy-going about this that I really liked. And I think there might be even more there, given the fullness on the palate, that this will be one of the better editions to age for the long haul. I'm pretty happy I have a nice stash of this, though I won't be opening mine for a few more years yet. (3420 views)
Tasted by Mrbuzz on 2/15/2024: salted lemons and fino sherry...drinking well! (3277 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 2/12/2024: Very good. At least my sixth time since release and this was by far the most approachable, most complete wine of the bunch. It's been 3 1/2 yrs since the last one and part of me was bracing for it being too young, but instead we were treated to a superb showing. Maybe they're all ready, or maybe it was (positive) bottle variation. I'll happily take the win. A very good future for le 168eme. 12,5% abv. highly recommended (3474 views)
Tasted by darrennelson12 on 12/31/2023 & rated 91 points: Not bad .. but not our favourite edition for sure
Citrus and bready notes for sure .. missing the buttery krug notes we love and look for (3489 views)
Tasted by Stefan75 on 12/28/2023 & rated 91 points: Fresh, citrus and green aromas dominate (3230 views)
Tasted by Xavier94 on 12/26/2023 & rated 95 points: 95-96. Big, generous Krug, tons of dimension, aging beautifully. Second time tasting the 168th. (3295 views)
Tasted by G SQUARED on 12/26/2023 & rated 93 points: Love this edition (3005 views)
Tasted by Chr.kronborg on 12/25/2023: Drinking well 😊 Beautiful stuff 🎄🎉🍾 (2873 views)
Tasted by WST on 12/23/2023: Our Annual Champagne Tasting: My bottle. This assertively followed the 2008 Cristal. An excellent Grande Cuvée. Very yeasty. Energetic and powerful but polished. Ginger, apricot, jasmine, sweet brioche. (2543 views)
Tasted by Dale M on 12/15/2023 & rated 95 points: Another exceptional bottle - loaded with richness and structure, acidity for days.....love this. (3280 views)
Tasted by Benoit Hardy on 12/2/2023 & rated 94 points: Base 2012. Very floral on the nose with yellow fruits. Very full mouthfeel, creamy attack, fine oxidative touch, toasted and grilled almonds dominate a beautiful, just emerging complexity. Great crystal balance. Vibrant finish on the razor's edge. (3460 views)
Tasted by lozatron on 11/23/2023: Thanksgiving Wimps 2023 - Alfred Stieglitz Table (La Trompette): "I've got a controversial idea" the sommelier said...serve this at the end of the meal instead of the beginning. I was a little worried that the palate would be too fatigued then - no need. Good lordy this has energy - real zip, a certain tightness, and still some substance. Someone compared it to the 164 - well if the 164 brings the 08 power, this brings the 12 lightness and zip. Thanks for an excellent drink and something to be truly thankful for. (3634 views)
Tasted by Alex Barbera on 11/19/2023 & rated 94 points: Vor 170 (3468 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 11/18/2023 & rated 94 points: Krug tasting (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): Glass: Riedel Superleggero Champagne
From Magnum. Clear, medium golden color. Nose already open and quite mature, some nice red fruit, brioche.
Already open for business! Beautiful tension, nice pressure, very balanced and nice energy. More red than yellow fruit, some citrus notes, fine mousseux, long. A bit better (riper) than 170eme. 93-94 (3326 views)
Tasted by Yassine23 on 11/12/2023 flawed bottle: Completely closed, barely anything there, just a bit of apple, real shame. (3264 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 11/5/2023 & rated 96 points: blind
My first impression in the nose was Clos du Mesnil 2006 or Comtes de Champagne 2012. Some waffles and lemon zest. Very fresh and elegant. No roasted aromas as e.g. 171eme edition. Very nice. 95-96 (4299 views)
Tasted by Beachfan on 11/2/2023 & rated 94 points: Wow, each bottle better than the last. Classic, bright, long. (3725 views)

N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Édition 168ème

KRUG GRANDE CUVÉE 168ÈME ÉDITION

IN ESSENCE: It is a blend of 198 wines from 11 different years, the youngest is from the year 2012, while the oldest dates back to 1996.

Its final composition is 52% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 13% Meunier.

A stay of around seven years, or six years in the case of half-bottles, in Krug’s cellars gives Krug Grande Cuvée 168ème Édition its distinct expression and elegance.

THE STORY OF ITS CREATION:
Krug Grande Cuvée 168ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2012, a beautiful year with a low yield due to a succession of meteorological events. Frost, rain, storms and hale all hit the vineyards of Champagne in winter and spring 2012, followed by the driest ripening season since 1974, resulting in 20% fewer grapes.

The final creation is the result of blending wines of the year from carefully selected plots with reserve wines of specific plots from 10 other years. As the wines of 2012 were reminiscent of pastry with great roundness, reserve wines were added to bring vivacity to the blend. Reserve Chardonnays were chosen from certain plots in Avize and Marmery for their freshness, while Pinot Noir reserve wines from plots in the Montagne de Reims Nord brought tension.

In all, reserve wines from the House’s extensive library made up 42% of the final blend, bringing the breadth and roundness so essential to each Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée.

KRUG GRANDE CUVÉE IS UNIQUE:
Krug Grande Cuvée is the first and unique Prestige Champagne re-created every year, beyond the notion of vintage.

The art of blending wines from so many different years gives Krug Grande Cuvée its unique fullness of flavours and aromas, impossible to express with the wines of just a single year.

The Édition number corresponds to the number of times in the House of Krug the founder’s dream has been re-created. It also serves as a reference for collectors, to enjoy it later.

The full story of every Édition is revealed online via its Krug iD, the six digits on the back label.
Krug Grande Cuvée, like all Krug Champagnes, will continue to gain with the passage of time.

TASTING NOTES:
A light golden colour and fine, vivacious bubbles, holding a promise of pleasure.
Aromas of flowers in bloom, ripe, dried and citrus fruits, as well as marzipan and gingerbread. Flavours of hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, jellied and citrus fruits, almonds, brioche and honey.

Champagne Blend

"Champagne blend" is a classic grape blend that typically includes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and/or Pinot Meunier in any proportions.

However, this blend can also include Arbane, Fromenteau (Pinot Gris), Petit Meslier and/or Pinot Blanc as well.

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
