Tasted by thesternowl on 3/7/2024 & rated 94 points: Rhône or Nôwhere 2.0 (Malcolm, NE): 100% old-vine Marsanne from the Le Méal lieu dit which is predominately south facing. The 2007 “Le Méal” is a wine of beauty and balance with notes of yellow flowers, wet stone and honey suckle. Surprisingly fresh for a 2007. Super delicious with monkfish, sweet potato, leek, and winter truffle. Drink now through 2037. Merci Dave! (518 views)
Tasted by Peter Z. on 1/18/2024 & rated 97 points: Needed air to open (502 views)
Tasted by paintinginacave on 3/25/2023 & rated 94 points: One hour slow oxidation. Pours a brilliant medium gold. Inviting aromas of spiced, poached white pear, honeysuckle, lightly pickled ginger, a feint touch of honey, damp stones, quince, and orange oil. Ultra-concentrated, waxy yet silken - the palate is a dense, powerful delight that finishes with a touch of phenolic bitterness akin to grapefruit pith. (925 views)
Tasted by Amberissey on 3/25/2023 & rated 95 points: Baking spices, pineapple, damp mossy rocks, and red apple skin in beautiful delineation on the nose. An absolute firework display on the palette. Baking spices first, then more of a baked pineapple, like a pineapple tarte tatin, also with vanilla custard. A lovely tart bitterness on the finish. Great purity. (868 views)
Tasted by Hamersly on 9/25/2022 flawed bottle: Oxidized. Amber color, not unpleasant but significant butterscotch competing with the apricot and pineapple. (1371 views)
Tasted by LB88 on 8/30/2022 & rated 95 points: This was dense golden yellow, beautiful nose and just perfectly resolved and drinking with apricots and pineapples. So balanced, just a stunning wine developing mild secondary characteristics. (1328 views)
Tasted by beatles on 4/6/2022 & rated 95 points: From Methusalem. Tasted vis-a-vis d l'Oree & Ermite from the same format and the same vintage, this is certainly in the manly, mineral and serious of the three. From this format it has not moved much since the last grand party, it remains a complex wine a real Hermitage with honey notes and citrus balanced by the mineral core.

Tasted by sdsull on 1/7/2022 flawed bottle: Corked (1375 views)
Tasted by sdsull on 1/7/2022 flawed bottle: Badly oxidized. This is the second bottle of this wine that was oxidized. Also had a bottle that was corked. Only 1 of 4 bottles worth drinking. Wondering if others have had this experience. (1296 views)
Tasted by Pearls_b4Swine on 11/6/2021 & rated 94 points: Excellent when room temp (1179 views)
Tasted by sdsull on 10/7/2021 & rated 96 points: Very beautiful wine. Opened up after 60 minutes, but was better when served chilled vs room temperature. Glycerin, stones and honey. Paired quite well with crab cakes and halibut. (1154 views)
Tasted by A&C on 5/15/2021 & rated 99 points: A friend brought this over for dinner. I was blown away. This as close to a perfect white wine as I've ever had. The wine was completely integrated in everyway. Perfectly balanced. Great fruit. Smooth as silk. Perfect acid. Perfect alcohol. Normally, I don't write reviews on wines I did not take from my own cellar, but this wine merits an exception. This is one of the best white wines of my life. Truly memorable. Wow. Silk perfection. (1457 views)
Tasted by winot on 3/21/2021 & rated 94 points: First, I have to profess that I generally do not care for Rhone whites. But this was awesome. Medium deep gold, restrained, elegant but incisive and focused nose. Very smooth palate, with great acidity, no flabbiness at all that I often associate w N Rhone whites. Sweet roasted citrus flavours, this is really quite spectacular. Deep, finely appointed, elegant. Delicious. (1345 views)
Tasted by G_H on 2/13/2021: Weird notes to start: pickled asparagus, cauliflower, oak, ripe apple and some baked apple. dense opulent and long (866 views)
Tasted by vr.bart on 7/6/2020 & rated 99 points: Wow. This is simply fantastic! Incredible nose, intense long lasting palette. Nothing out of place. 99+ (1940 views)
Tasted by Munch on 2/27/2020 & rated 94 points: pours a rich golden yellow with nose of butterscotch and citrus. Somewhat oily rich texture and flavors of honeyed orange and minerals and a medium finish. No sign of decline and drinking very well now. (2055 views)
Tasted by Stefanos T. on 11/25/2019 & rated 95 points: A full bodied wine with high but balanced alcohol.
Though there is white fleshed fruit, peach and quince, the honey sweetness it showed some years before has given its place to some sort of mineral aromas, or is it a first sign of oxidation? But I guess there's no rush to drink up. In any case this wine now is fantastic! (2269 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 9/22/2019 flawed bottle: Occasional dinner group: A mixed set of wines. (@ Zarzo, Eindhoven, The Netherlands): Corked (2390 views)
Tasted by Charlie C on 7/12/2019 & rated 93 points: The wine was a deep gold in color. I found it a bit shy at first on the nose, but that developed with time in the glass. The palate was gorgeous, viscous with honey, pepper, tangerine. Nice mineral notes. Lovely acidity and beautiful balance. Finishes long and deeply flavored. (1998 views)
Tasted by retired_and_roving on 5/13/2019: Rhone Dinner (Bobo): Quite a change up from the Cuilleron St. Peray - much richer in mouthfeel and body. On the nose ripe white peach and butterscotch. Color is golden yellow. Taste of yellow summer peach, with some toasted honey and then a bit of a flush of heat on the finish. (2132 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 5/13/2019: Rhone May Dinner (Bobo): Very different than the St Peray which was all acid and light. This also has some great balance, but it is a full mouthful. Reminds me of when I sucked the honeysuckle nectar as a kid. Bit of that white flower and bit of the honey (with a consistency that is very reminiscent of honey). Pretty and powerful. (1791 views)
Tasted by OleBerg on 1/27/2019 & rated 94 points: Gyllen farve. Med + intens.

Tropisk, pære, kvede, vanilje, floral, lavendel. Fat og moden frukt.

Medium intens smak. God fylde med integrert fat på smak. Lav syre. Fin medium lengde med floral Finnish. (1441 views)
 Tasted by Raizes on 1/24/2019 & rated 93 points: 开瓶就有很好的果味,白梨、黄苹果,咸奶油和蜂蜜,以及好像加了一点水的M记香甜玉米杯,醒酒后出现逐渐更多的酒精味。非常芳香的特质掩盖了酸度的些微欠缺,不过也并非丰满圆润的风格,多少有些锋利的棱角。总的来说是一款四平八稳的匠心(或匠气,取决于关注点)之作。 (1484 views)
Tasted by Lord of the Bottles on 6/14/2018 & rated 95 points: At West London Wine School's 2007 Rhone Superstar Tasting. Clear bright gold. Beautiful honey bee and wax nose. Honeysuckle, pear, fennel and tropical fruit with a lavendar finish that lasted 30-plus seconds. Amazing depth and texture, no hard edges whatsoever. Killer wine! (2234 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 9/25/2017: Chapoutier Ermitage Tasting (Alpharetta, GA): Golden green; golden apple, poached pear, big and rich, apricot, lemon, waxy, oak, marzipan, pie crust; waxy and rich on the palate as well, luxurious texture teetering on heavy, minerality, yellow and green fruit, still youthful; delicious. Northern Rhône

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.

• The appellation stretches over 3 communes in the Drôme "département" : Tain-l'Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Larnage.

• The soils are a combination of granite with alluvial quaternary delta deposits, and, on the eastern side, Pliocene clay. This diversity explains the numerous different names given to vineyard plots within the appellation : Bessards, Greffieux, Méal, Roucoule, Beaumes, etc.

• The meso-climate provides shelter from the north winds, where the majority of the slopes is well exposed, facing south.

•The vineyards area adds up to 134 hectares/331 acres, with an annual production of 3,635 hectoliters. Authorized maximum yield is 40 hectoliters/hectare (2.3 US tons/acres).

• Grape varieties : Syrah (an addition of up to 15% of Marsanne or Roussanne is allowed).
