Tasted by itsallaboutvinum on 5/14/2024 & rated 94 points: 💭 Merry Christmas everyone! We’ve come close to a close of another year. While the kids have their presents, the adults can indulge.

NA Quinta do Noval 10 year old Tawny Port: Deep copper. Growing up in South East Asia, the notes reminds me of a typical traditional medicine store with umeshu (梅酒 Japanese liqueur made by steeping unripe ume plums in liqueur and sugar), and dried monk fruit (Lo Hon Guo / 羅漢果), dried herbs, wood, and underlying nuts, and dried fruits. Rich, spicy, sweet but not cloyingly, and oily.

Paired with 18 months aged Comte cheese, and aged Rum fruit cake.

💭 Joyeux Noël à tous ! Nous approchons de la fin d’une autre année. Pendant que les enfants reçoivent leurs cadeaux, les adultes peuvent se faire plaisir.

Porto Tawny NA Quinta do Noval 10 ans : Cuivre profond.

(54 views)
Tasted by forceberry on 4/24/2024 & rated 88 points: A blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinto Cão, Sousão and Tinta Roriz from different vineyards in Douro. The wine is blended from different vintages that have been aging in old oak pipes, resulting in a blend with an average age of 10 years. The wine was bottled in 2023. 19,5% alcohol.

Medium-deep cherry-red color with an oxidative maroon hue. Although the wine is a Tawny Port, the nose is still pretty red-toned with aromas of wizened cherries, some cooked strawberry tones ,a little bit of pruney dark fruit, light boozy notes of aguardente, a nutty hint of oxidation and a touch of ripe red plum. The wine feels sweet, soft and mellow on the palate with a full body and rich, somewhat evolved flavors of wizened cherries and prunes, some oxidative nutty tones, a little bit of cooked strawberry, light boozy notes of aguardente, a hint of Bassett's black wine gum and a touch of molasses. The overall feel is a bit round and ponderous as the wine is only medium in acidity and there isn't really any tannic grip to lend firmness to the palate. The finish is rich, sweet and rather long with a slightly sticky aftertaste of wizened black cherries and cooked strawberries, some pruney tones, a little bit of ripe red plum, light oxidative notes of chopped nuts, a hint of molasses and a touch of boozy aguardente. The high alcohol makes the wine end on a rather warm note.

I love Tawny Ports, but usually they have to be at least 20 years old before they offer anything of real interest. This was a pleasant effort, but still way too red-toned in character for my preference - instead of showing that nutty caramel goodness I look for in Tawny Ports, this was more about tired red fruit flavors and prunes. Furthermore, the overall feel was rather soft and a bit flabby, wanting in freshness and structure. Although the Noval wines are fantastic in the higher tiers of quality, to me, this 10 yo Tawny isn't a big step up in quality from regular non-age designated Tawny Ports. Priced somewhat according to its quality at 27,50€. (170 views)

Tasted by BrionHammond on 12/23/2023 & rated 91 points: For me this 10 year old tawny do the job. I tasted their Nacional 2019 last friday so I had to buy and try this Tawny. Nice job (581 views)
Tasted by Bolognese Diner on 11/21/2023 & rated 91 points: Beautiful color shifting towards brick-red, immediately on the nose, a myriad of intoxicating aromas is released, elevated by the wine's significant alcohol content. Mature dark fruit, in jam form, hints of spices, cinnamon, anise, a touch of peach blossom. Fragrant noble wood, almost medicinal iodine notes. In the mouth, it is alcoholic and sweet, with tremendous persistence and refreshed by a lovely acidity. We should all drink more port...

(681 views)
Tasted by StefanAkiko on 11/16/2023 & rated 92 points: This is a lovely port, bursting with figs, pipe tobacco and finishing off with a long fruity exuberance. Surprisingly more mature than a Ruby. (711 views)

🇵🇹 Dense garnet color with ruby tones👁️. Candied and dried fig, raisin and cassis with oak, vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate, and hazelnut, almond and walnut notes👃. Creamy and silky at mouth, soft tannins in a long persistence and candied cassis aftertaste 👄. 🍇 Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinto Cão, Sousão, Tinta Roriz. 20% alcohol. A combination of different vintages with an average age of 10 years. Great Porto. 😃 (420 views)

Tasted by mwagner7700 on 4/13/2023: Purchased for $29. Tasted for #tawnytuesday with some friends. Ruby tinged mahogany in color. On the nose, baked cherry, dates hints of cellar oak. On the palate, more red fruits, loads of caramel and more of that cellar oak. When I say "cellar oak", I'm not talking about the typical vanilla oak from new French oak barrels. By cellar oak, I mean that smell of walking into the lodges in Gaia. It's almost a wet basement type of note, but not in a bad way. It's looks a smell of old, wet oak. This is right in the middle of the "dry to sweet" spectrum of Tawnies. Nice acidity. Medium finish. But a bit of heat on the finish. Overall, really nice, easy-drinking tawny.

Tasted by chatters on 11/5/2022: Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London): Medium minus intensity aromas show leather, walnut, fig, blackberry. Medium plus intensity acidity, served slightly chilled which really helps, figs, walnuts, the dark fruits present but more on the back burner. Balanced, nice. (1693 views)
Tasted by theportguy on 4/19/2022 & rated 90 points: Certified Port Educator (CPE) Course; 4/18/2022-4/24/2022 (Porto, Portugal): Dark amber in color with some orange on the edges. Still some red fruit notes on the nose with some pronounced spices. Rich, fresh red fruit with some oak and a nice rich flavor profile. (1953 views)
Tasted by Alexhare on 4/3/2022 & rated 88 points: Buon porto dal naso etereo. Emerge una nota di tè nero. (2116 views)
Tasted by JBAllen63 on 1/16/2022 & rated 86 points: We both like it very much and noted additional flavors over a 10 day drinking window (2264 views)
Tasted by theportguy on 9/20/2021 & rated 89 points: Pre-Tour - 2021 FTLOP Harvest Tour; 9/20/2021-9/25/2021 (Porto, Portugal): Brilliant, medium ruby in color with dark Ruby center. Christmas spice, a touch of oak, and dried fruit on the subdued nose (the wine was chilled). Rich red fruits on the palate. Smooth, with some light spices. Youthful tannins with rich but smooth palate and long finish. (1436 views)
Tasted by pdadams66 on 1/23/2021 & rated 89 points: Pale red center, red/brown rim.
Sweet, butterscotch, browned butter, brandied cherries.
Smooth and sweet, nutty, some rancio, cherries and a touch of brandy, good acidity, alcohol present but not obtrusive, good finish.
Very good tawny, especially for 10 years old. (2480 views)
Tasted by angelcyn on 12/27/2020 & rated 86 points: Quite a dark tawny smooth well covered alcohol but lacks flavour, a bit like it has been filtered down, a style that maybe many will like? decent finish a bit sweet for the substance like a melted cough candy, not as good as the equivalent Grahams or Warres or Sandeman etc.
Unusually for a port improved somewhat the second day, the flavours emerged more. (2053 views)
Tasted by Randyartoo on 11/1/2020 & rated 89 points: One of the best 10 year tawny ports (2004 views)
Tasted by Paul852 on 7/26/2020 & rated 90 points: Drank this over about 10 days, and I feel it got better the longer it was open. Initially a bit sweet, hot and straightforward. But over the next few days it developed quite nicely. By about day 7 on the nose there's caramel, but also something like cough-mixture cherries. The palate has burnt butterscotch, cherries, very clean mouthfeel, not at all cloying. The finish is more of the butterscotch and just a nice little bite.

Overall though it is a little sweeter than I expected from a tawny port, but very nice nevertheless. (2068 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 6/8/2020 & rated 92 points: Light medium ruby color; aromatic, cherry cordial, fruit cake, bread pudding nose; silky textured, baked cherry, baked fig, ginger cake palate; long finish (one of the best 10 year old tawnys I've tasted; 19.5% alcohol) 92+ points (841 views)

Tasted by Henman on 11/1/2018 & rated 88 points: From a half bottle. Some candied cherries and heat on the nose. Full bodied and sweet showing candied cherries, a bit of dried fruit and some austere oak on the finish. Pretty good. A decent 10 year old tawny. (2436 views)
Tasted by Alexander Smith on 9/13/2018 & rated 91 points: amber color, the nose had notes of fig and caramel, the palate had a light delicate apple, butterscotch with an easy finish, approachable and smooth. (2502 views)
