Tasted by gcarl on 7/1/2022 & rated 91 points: Untouched in my cellar since 9/29/12. Opened and poured thru Vinturi. Dark in the glass, nice barnyard, damp forest floor, and spice on the nose. Smooth red fruit on the palate. So glad to have 5 more from the six from wineaccess.com in20212 (1116 views)
Tasted by williamswhine on 1/23/2022 & rated 90 points: Barnyard, glassy funk nose. Ruby red hue. Medium bodied, red fruit, cherry tart, slight eucalyptus. Surprising tasting CdP-- not that deep complex juice. Enjoyed once nose wafted. (1396 views)
Tasted by CCestaro on 3/2/2021 & rated 92 points: Great nose with a bit of barnyard, some forest, and some earth. Nice dark fruit, nicely balanced, with a soft texture. This is subtle and still very good. (1985 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 5/9/2020 & rated 92 points: Pop and pour, this needed about 15 minutes air time in the glass for the fruit to come out and for it to resolve. After that, there is a wonderful garrigue and herbal nose. Soft red fruit. My wife couldn't identify this wine and thought it might be a bigger pinot noir. I would not have pegged it for a CDP blind either, which is interesting because my note from 2016 says "standard middle of the road CDP", which this clearly is not today. 92-93 (2903 views)
Tasted by ccarter5181 on 7/13/2019 & rated 91 points: Form 375ml bottle. Interesting mature nose of blackberries with earthy notes. Similar on the palate. Well integrated, in prime drinking window now. Enjoyable elegant and smooth finish. (3008 views)
Tasted by Bodyfxr on 7/3/2019 & rated 92 points: See previous notes. This was my last bottle. Fantastic qpr. Highly recommend. (2417 views)
Tasted by Bodyfxr on 5/10/2019 & rated 93 points: Decanted and enjoyed with truffle and mushroom pizza. Smooth and lovely. All the components are there and well integrated. This is about as good as this wine will get. Drink up! (2376 views)
Tasted by Bodyfxr on 9/14/2018 & rated 92 points: Poured through a vinturi aerator into a decanter then decanted for two hours. This created a wafting aroma of freshly made blackberry jam and blueberry pie. This wine was inky purple/black in hue. Lush and big on the palate bursting with dark fruit, spices and wet stones on the finish. This is a fun wine in a great place right now. 92-93 points as it continued to improve as the night went on. My buddy Joe loved this wine. (2289 views)
Tasted by JVG on 9/6/2017: Pretty much mirrors my last experience with this wine about five years ago, except maybe a bit calmed down. I wouldn't say it's evolved all that much, so I think I actually liked it a little better in its slightly more assertive state last time around. But if you have some of these, I'd let them rest because I think this will eventually age into something more complex. (2916 views)
Tasted by Bodyfxr on 8/14/2017 & rated 93 points: This just keeps getting better. An apealing balance between muscle and finesse. A nice accompaniment to sushi. (2546 views)
Tasted by smazur on 4/29/2017 & rated 89 points: On the lighter side of CDP with plenty of fruit still present. Very table friendly wine. (3099 views)
Tasted by hellowine on 4/24/2017 & rated 90 points: I opened it about 15-20 minutes before dinner. It should have been opened an hour ahead of time. (My bad not paying attn to the clock) Served with simple duck leg confit, potatoes fried in duck fat, simple steamed veggies and a salad with vinaigrette. Nice pairing. The wine itself had typical CdP funk on it, but less manure barnyard smells than mushroom and wet earth. The more unpleasant smells blew off over time leaving the delicious mushroomy notes. Good fruit, blackberries more than cherries. Deep color, 14.5% ABV. Balanced, softer tannins but nicely rounded. Not sharp and puckery. Definitely in its drinking window. It could easily go another 5 years. (3340 views)

Tasted by schaden43 on 12/26/2016 & rated 90 points: Decanted for three hours before dinner. While the nose was a tad barnyard, the wine was fine. (2200 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 10/30/2016 & rated 91 points: Pop and pour. This was better than the previous 2 bottles. Right out of the bottle, quite lively, herbaceous and mineral driven. With time, it becomes a more standard middle of the road CDP with licorice, anise, earth, etc.... Really well done for $25. (2409 views)
Tasted by Bodyfxr on 10/3/2016 & rated 91 points: See previous notes. (1932 views)
Tasted by vegasoenophile on 8/8/2016 & rated 92 points: In a great place right now! Delicious red and black berry liquer accented by leather and earthy, gamy notes giving it a savory edge with licorice, spice and pepper. (2444 views)
Tasted by mmcdds on 7/5/2016 & rated 89 points: Very nice and drinking well tonight. (2394 views)
Tasted by Jeni_B on 6/17/2016 & rated 93 points: Smooth, sophisticated. Hammy but not sweet. Slight note of leather. Earthy. Tannic finish, but subtle and sophisticated. Quite liked it. Don't understand the 89 overall rating. (2267 views)
Tasted by vintage_whine on 2/29/2016: peaking now (2416 views)
Tasted by peeno on 2/28/2016 & rated 92 points: Another winner from the Perrin family. Medium full body with a pinch of spice among the dark fruits. Smooth. A "tweener" which should please both the burgundians and bordeauxes. Classic french. Easy to guzzle the whole bottle before you know it. Had it with a pork chop and caprese. (2300 views)
Tasted by bspahn on 2/27/2016 & rated 91 points: Much better than I was expecting. Wet leaves on the nose, but in the mouth it was all lightness and red fruit. Medium body, very well-balanced.

Not a "big" Chateauneuf-du-Pape by any means. Feels closer to Cote du Py than Chateaneuf-du-Pape.

Extremely enjoyable! I see no reason to wait. (1990 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 1/26/2016 & rated 87 points: P/1 hr. prior to service. Slight haze, med purple/red color. No initial funk. Nose and taste better after some air time. A bit over the top, thin to med intensity. Usual CdP flavor but not as good as hoped for. Short, dirty finish. Nothing off. $32 (2252 views)
Tasted by HWgeek on 12/26/2015 & rated 87 points: Did not find a strong barnyard funk, or pine needles in my bottle. There was anise, some earthiness, but balanced, not overwhelming, light hints of fruit in the background. Dark red fruit on the palate, subtle, with some oak and leather, reasonably balanced. Medium finish, not an overly pucker factor, but slightly stronger than one might expect. Not a 90+ bottle, but would go well with a stronger meat type dish. Won't necessarily be the best as a sipper. (2137 views)
Tasted by Gordonium on 12/23/2015: My experience was very similar to recent notes. Low fruit (probably due to age and brett), with strong barnyard funk, almost overwhelming pine needle aromas, anise, Worcestershire sauce, soy, and an almost synthetic/burning plastic note on the back end (reduction?). Ever so slightly effervescent (brett). This probably would have been enjoyable a few years ago, presumably before the brett became so expressive. Oh, well. Will open something else for holiday travel packing. (Note taken on day 2. Day 1 was similar.) (1805 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
