Tasted by Muckins on 11/24/2022 & rated 82 points: Drinkable but not wonderful (628 views)
Tasted by dfcrutcher on 9/4/2021: Soft and glyceriney with red berry fruit. Nice little alcohol bite on the finish (in a good way). It's ready. Maybe no rush, but drink soon. (1378 views)
Tasted by diggydan on 5/15/2021 & rated 90 points: So big and ripe. Great nose. (1517 views)
Tasted by diggydan on 5/30/2020 & rated 90 points: Big and fruity RRV signature cherry cola and toasty oak. Better by itself than with food! (1973 views)
Tasted by BMorelli on 11/30/2019 & rated 92 points: Still drinking really nicely. Soft red fruits on the nose. (2167 views)
 Tasted by DesMarteau on 9/1/2019 & rated 92 points: easy drinking...wide range...cola, kiwi, spice...well integrated. (2073 views)
Tasted by ppaluszewski on 1/12/2019 & rated 93 points: Still drinking well for its age, although the alcohol was poking through a bit. Impressed how this has held up but the fruit may fade over the next couple of years. 92+ pts. PJP 2019. (2060 views)
Tasted by peolsf on 4/30/2017 & rated 92 points: Wonderful. Nose of cherry and raspberry is bright yet with some earthiness, especially cinnamon. On the palate it manages both brightness and depth. Lovely structure. (4213 views)
Tasted by FLI on 1/3/2017 & rated 91 points: Fruity style, but well done. (3802 views)
Tasted by Mackall817 on 5/9/2016 & rated 92 points: Outstanding wine. Very plum-like with deep garnet color. After about an hour of decanting it was really good stuff. Would love to have another 12 bottles. Really, really good Pinot. (4230 views)
Tasted by Mmark on 3/14/2016 & rated 92 points: Clear and darker red
Intense and full nose. Really deep but not overpowered cherries and raspberries. Some sweetness from cinnamon and clove. Very ripe and nice polished tannins. Drinking well now. (4319 views)
Tasted by yonster24 on 2/28/2016: While the cork nor bottle showed any signs of heat damage, I refuse to believe this bottle was in good condition. Nose of stewed fruit, way over ripe cherry and definitely some prune. Med bodied on the palate, with earth, ripe cherry and the prune coming through. med+ finish with acidity coming through. But something about this bottle feels off. Not enjoyable at all. (4206 views)
Tasted by Redrum on 2/27/2016 & rated 93 points: Excellent and in its prime drinking window. Dark and extracted, without an overbearing focus on cherry flavors. (2402 views)
Tasted by jonwill on 2/27/2016 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured, drank over several hours. Still plenty of fruit here but very fine integrated tannins, has mellowed a lot in its bottle journey. Drink now, at its peak now! (2200 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 9/6/2015 & rated 93 points: Continues to drink beautifully! (2293 views)
Tasted by FLI on 8/3/2015 & rated 90 points: Ripe and juicy - very fruity for a pinot, though not heavy or high alcohol. Easy drinking. Very California, in a good way. (2270 views)
Tasted by gutt22 on 7/18/2015: 14.5% alcohol. Bright cherry color. Pretty, classic Rochioli nose of black cherry, baking spice, and a touch of minerality. In the mouth, this is rich with cherry fruit, with a nice spike of acidity, and there is a touch of heat lingering on the finish. May be coming around more quickly than other vintages. A- (2211 views)
Tasted by Minnesota on 6/29/2015 & rated 90 points: Agree with Matt812's May tasting note. This wine presented much better previously. Perhaps glad it was our last bottle. (2266 views)
Tasted by matt182 on 5/31/2015 & rated 90 points: Wine presented in a weird stage that night. Remembered my first bottle was way more in place. Every component are there but look to me less cohesive then 1-2 years ago. Classic RRV fruit, alcohol spiking ++, interesting minerals/saline notes, a lot of spices (cinnamon, clove, star anis). Good but not great. (2456 views)
Tasted by thefischers on 5/18/2015 & rated 94 points: Tight out of the bottle but opened beautiful with the assistance of the Venturi. Fruit forward subtle to no tannins and a great finish. Purchased from the winery in Russian River. Got one of last few bottles in 2010. Glad we waited. (1944 views)
Tasted by Tony Poli on 3/28/2015 & rated 93 points: Popped and poured at a new-to-us restaurant with some pretty sophisticated cuisine. This was outstanding. Dark red/purple color, no real signs of age in the glass. Just a bit disjointed out of the bottle, but smoothed out wonderfully as it took on air. Some smoke and spice on the nose, along with dark cherries. Pleasant mouthfeel, lots of structure in the mouth, with a blending of red and dark fruit, good tannic structure, and a hint of smoke. Long, pleasant finish. I think this could age some more, but is drinking quite well now. (2072 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 3/5/2015 & rated 93 points: Drinking beautifully! As fresh as the last bottle with wonderful floral notes on the nose and palate. (2157 views)
Tasted by M Macht on 1/27/2015 & rated 92 points: Fantastic Pino Noir. (2380 views)
Tasted by ListenToMeWine on 1/2/2015 & rated 92 points: Nice nose of cherry fruit, dark red in the glass, on the palate silky tannins and goos acidity make this a winner. Nice finish. (2315 views)
Tasted by ListenToMeWine on 12/7/2014 & rated 93 points: Perfumed combination of cola and spice on the nose, tart cherry on the palate with great acidity and a lingering finish that with emphasis on the cola and earth once again. Really good stuff. This is drinking really well after an hour of air, could use another year or two to hit it's prime, but this is very good juice. (2439 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
