Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.6 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 22 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by MJReb on 5/15/2022 & rated 92 points: Stony and iodine, good tension and length, there is lot of citrus and some honey. In a good spot right now. (600 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 6/4/2021 & rated 92 points: Drunk over 2 days, needed some minutes of air to unfold: pretty straight, lemon, some apples, salty and stony, some honey notes, excellent length. I prefer it vs the larger Vaillons 09, the recently tasted Forest 09 is very good too. No change on day 2. Drink it now or over the next 10-15 years.
By the way: I was today in Chablis and tasted the 2020 of Dauvissat from the barrel: grande année classique, real beauties - unfortunately huge losses due to frost in 2021. (1053 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 2/5/2021 & rated 91 points: Ripe fruit, mainly apple and grapefruit, with aeration salty, iodine notes are getting more present, the wine seems to go out of the honeyed period on a more focused and straight level. (1004 views)
Tasted by honest bob on 11/2/2020 & rated 89 points: From 75cl, inferior cork soggy and pasty half-way back, wine unaffected. Such a relief to open a 11-year old Chablis which isn't premoxed or plain corked. This bottle exactly like the one recorded here on 25.04.2018: brilliant scent and finish (tangerine oil aromatics!) let down badly by the relatively soggy, flabby, flat, boring mid-palate. Probably better sooner rather than later, even if your bottle is as intact as this one was. 88-89P (1241 views)
Tasted by pbaek on 2/2/2020: First bottle from a case of 12. This is in much better shape than 2009 Vaillons, much tighter, more strict. Opens up with notes of wool, stone and grapefruit/lime. There’s a brisk note of salt/brine on the nose. Focused with good depth and cut. Spices, lemon curd. Dauvissat the way I like it. (1274 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 9/26/2019 & rated 92 points: Some Birthday wines (St. Anselm DC): This bottle has aged really nicely. Vibrant, salty, brisk and pretty but plenty of textural depth. Lemon curd, yellow apples, topped in honey, salt brine and chalk. (1080 views)
Tasted by Bellissimo on 5/2/2018 flawed bottle: Corked (910 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 5/2/2018 flawed bottle: Matt's Big 5-0 Birthday Bash (Heirloom, St.Paul, MN): Corked. Same bottle as Bellissimo. (1450 views)
Tasted by honest bob on 4/25/2018 & rated 89 points: From 75vl, perfect cork. Better than my previous bottle (11.01.2018), this was truly excellent at the start (honeysuckle-tangerine aromatics, fine skinny balanced entry), but fell apart on the mid-palate (soft, flabby, insubstantial) only to show a touch of true brilliance on the long, tangerine-oil and iodine-tinged finish. Go figure. If you are lucky enough to have bottles without premox, this should be good for several years, and certainly makes interesting drinking. 89P (1054 views)
Tasted by honest bob on 1/11/2018 & rated 88 points: From 75cl, suboptimal cork stained halfway back. Once past the Dauvissat signature tangerine aromatics, this is an undistinguished, soft, low-acid, surprisingly linear and monolithic version of Chablis. Disappointing at first taste, and overwhelmed by a white fish dish with lemon/cream sauce. On this showing only 87-88P(?) (977 views)
Tasted by Necowine on 6/24/2017 & rated 88 points: Underwhelmed, overall. Nice sharp citrus attack followed by a middle that's hard for me to define except to say it's a kind of pleasant glycerol savory character. Creaminess on finish. A very nice Chardonnay - which is less than I had hoped for. (1232 views)
Tasted by Yapdiver on 8/17/2014 & rated 89 points: The wine looks light gold colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like mineral and a hint of lilac. It tastes like mineral and and a little alcohol. The body is light/medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity. (1954 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 7/23/2013: Begins well, with seashells, good fruit, full, not too ripe, nice body, not fat nor tropical, respectable acidity. Any concerns I had about '09 seem to be allayed. But after a couple of hours, the palate grows diffuse, with light grapefruit notes, but seems empty in the middle, touches of alcohol showing. (2376 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 5/15/2013: Upon uncorking, immediately opens to lots of wool. This recedes as the palate widens to include clear citrus notes and lighter wool, with rounded sides. The center here shows rounder also, the wine has less cut, more '09 than '07, but despite this, the underlying acidity is still respectable and sort of sneaks up on you, showing prominently on the surprisingly longer than expected finish. Overall, this seems to reflect the vintage, showing less stuffing and slightly rounder, and is somewhat diffuse. Perhaps this will gain its poise with another year or so in the cellar. (2381 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 3/23/2012: Yup, Jeremy Holmes is spot-on with the honeysuckle on this nose. It's a bright, happy nose, the honeysuckle giving good high notes, not overbearing, almost like a light Condrieu. The palate is open and forward, young, friendly as a puppy, and veers to a lightly sweet side, and I'm thinking that this is young and pulpy and bright like a recent release Sancerre. The second night, the honeysuckle is more in the background, this is showing more classic Chablis like, more seashell and minerals and even some wooly notes. Very enjoyable. (2817 views)
Tasted by Alex H on 2/17/2012 & rated 85 points: High acidity with lime skins and lemons but not as high as the raveneau. Drinking now but not so expressive. Very monolithic. (1330 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 2/17/2012 & rated 93 points: Bad to the Beaune (Tung Lok Signatures, Central): I thought this was a lovely 1er Cru. It was off-theme, but it turned out to be my favourite white of the night. It had a nose that could have been ripe enough to have come from the Cote d'Or, with sweet lemons scents, white apple flesh, a bit of spice and slighty honeyed undertone. But with time, there were enough saline minerality and earthy nuances that swirled out on the bouquet to pin this down as a Chablis. Very pleasant, but it was actually the palate that got me, with its chalky, seashelly attack with some beautiful smoky minerality forming a frame for a midpalate of rich white fruit, think pears and apples, lanced by a spear of lemony citrus notes. The finish had a nice length too. Mid-weight rather than powerful, while kissed with some of the sweetness of the vintage, this was accompanied by all the beautiful foucs, definition and balance you expect from a good Dauvissat bottling. Excellent - this should show really well over the short to medium term. (2263 views)
Tasted by Mingmong on 2/17/2012 & rated 91 points: Clear fresh mineral nose. Gentle balance, some crushed stone, and soft white fruit. (2606 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 12/27/2011: Honeysuckle is synonymous with 09 and there’s some here but it is in fact one of the most pure, paired back Chablis that I have tried from this vintage. It is a wine of great poise and tension with plenty of lime, iodine and great line. It works within a relatively compact and narrow channel in the mouth and the finish is laden with chalk. (1421 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 11/10/2011: Cellar Tasting with Vincent Dauvissat--Mostly 2009s (Chablis): The first wine to lead with fruit aromatics that say "2009". Underipe pineapple and transiently sweet entry, but this is deceptive as the wine is no more than mid-weight and the mineral structure strongly asserts itself on the finish. (1659 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
