Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by zachb1125 on 1/24/2023 & rated 89 points: End of a very long dinner, so specific notes don't stand out. Classic Huet stuff, enjoyable baked apple, honey, straw, nice acidity, although a touch underwhelming. Easily could've just been palate fatigue. (595 views)
Tasted by liber on 11/7/2022 & rated 94 points: 10th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, even fresher than last December's bottle, not the most botrytised of these prem tries but still wonderfully attractive, nuanced and persistent, no upside, 10 years. F+ (18). (602 views)
Tasted by liber on 12/6/2021 & rated 93 points: 8th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, notes consistent fine or better last in 2010 fine plus - mid gold, translucent; apricot and peach, some burnt caramel and musky notes; med/full, long and persistent if without concentration of 89 or 97, nice balance, losing sweetness (not a problem for me at this age and to be expected), no upside but no rush. F+ (18). (913 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 9/24/2019 & rated 93 points: Bibendum Portfolio Tasting 2019: From half bottle. Mint, lime, lemon and honey. Palate is delicate even with the sweet undertones. Structure is folded in nicely, still supporting but integrated. Really like the profile of this. Should continue developing but also in a nice spot now. (1426 views)
 Tasted by BrunelloBob on 7/6/2019 & rated 91 points: Thick. Honey-ed apricot/peaches. A nice dessert. (1273 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 12/22/2017 & rated 92 points: Beat your 2017 WOTY Dinner: Half bottle. Ginger, apricot, apple, pear and musky notes on the nose. Palate has excellent flavour intensity, it is very rich but maintains good focus through the acidity. Not as thrilling as the last time I tried this, but still very good. (1955 views)
Tasted by Robert Page on 12/10/2017 & rated 95 points: Found this tucked away in the cellar and had fond memories of the last bottle. This one did not disappoint! Beautiful yellow gold in color, with no sediment. We have a quince tree, and the nose on this wine is just like the blossoms, along with honeysuckle. We took a chance with a simple PnP, and it was fine on the first sip at 55F--no need to decant. Sweet but not cloying, with bright acidity. Strong notes of candied apple , citrus, and honey. I'm not really a fan of petrol notes in wines like this, but this one has just a hint of fuel on the finish that delivers one last bit of fun before it goes down the hatch. Crazy great pairing with fresh hot popcorn, a smoked white cheddar, and a few small slices of truffled Gouda. Perfect late afternoon snack on a sunny but chilly Winter day. (1485 views)
Tasted by Lord of the Bottles on 6/14/2017 & rated 93 points: Domaine Huet with Sarah Hwang (Armit Wines): Nose of gunpowder, gamey peach, more gunpowder and tea finish. I found the tea a bit overpowering at times but with food this would probably hold up. Score reflects the complexity and the handicapping of no food with the tasting, rather than my own preference. (1820 views)
Tasted by 14frimaire on 5/8/2016: Great, vibrant, fulsome. Preferred it to the 1996 last night. (1984 views)
Tasted by 14frimaire on 1/25/2015: Another beautiful showing (2193 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 11/17/2014 & rated 96 points: Huet Masterclass with Jean-Bernard Berthomé and Sarah Hwang: Musk, mandarin peel, lemon, ginger, dried floral notes and a graphite/smoke character - another stunning set of aromas. After spending significant time with the nose, I took a taste and was enthralled - there is great concentration but it is oh-so bright and precise with a compelling line of acidity driving through into a very long finish. Another sip is inevitable, it took all my restraint not to just drink this as it would be gone in a flash. A wine with so much to offer already, but it won't hurt to give it more time for development. (2427 views)
Tasted by 14frimaire on 8/23/2014: Wow, just beautiful. (2092 views)
Tasted by stadler on 8/9/2014: Acidité élevée, trame très fine en bouche malgré le sucre résiduel, coing et fruits exotiques au palais, très long...remarquable pour un vin moelleux. (1827 views)
Tasted by tooch on 11/12/2011: The Embodiment of Memory (Bob's House - Alexandria, VA): Lovely bottle that showed well. Great fresh white floral and linen tones on the nose with underlying melon, pear, and fresh apple. The palate was fresh with concentrated peach, melon and floral tones. Love the density of flavor without the weighty palate. (4479 views)
Tasted by vespasian on 4/23/2011 & rated 92 points: Good botrytis on the nose. Complex and evolved, yet has lovely freshness also. Honeyed, mandarin; Delicate palate. Fresh, very elegant. Good acidity, very good length. Lovely flavours - excellent. (2290 views)
Tasted by 14frimaire on 5/14/2008: Dinner at Don and Melissa's (Upstate Manhattan): Was it young? Absolutely. Without any old vintages to distract us, this showed very well. It probably has more time left than I do ..., but this was really lovely, bright, pure, essence of Vouvray. Medium gold, bright acidity, nothing out of place; really special stuff. (3193 views)
Tasted by Paul D on 3/31/2007 & rated 85 points: No formal note, quite complex with honey, spice, apple and citrus, crisp acidity, perhaps a little too lean. No good (oxidised) second night. (2398 views)
Tasted by Ben Andersen on 3/5/2006: $51 retail, after discount. Appropriately golden color. Expressive, middle aged Chenin nose of apricot, quince, honey, herbal tea and light hay - the nose alone gets you salivating! Even the empty glass holds on to the same intriguing aromas. On the palate, this is wonderfully balanced, yet quite powerful, with vibrant, penetrating flavors of quinine, quince, hay and stones. Absolutely terrifc underlying acidity gives this a laser-like focus - it is in no way heavy of cloying. It has an almost sweet and sour thing going on, that leaves you shaking your head in amazement after each sip fades out on the finish. Although not necessarily an apples to apples comparison, I'm reminded of a recent taste of a similarly priced '96 Tirecul la Graviere Monbazillac two weeks ago (see TN) which gave the impression of being so much heavier and more syrupy than this wine - due more to its lack of acidity than its overall weight. For me, there is no comparison, and the Huet is a wine I could (and did!) drink several glasses of without ever tiring... This '95 reminds me of the terrific '89 Huet Clos du Bourg Moelleux, which I had about a year ago. How long will a wine like this age? My guess is a very, very long time... (2865 views)
