| Community Tasting Notes (average 87.7 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 8 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by pdadams66 on 2/23/2024 & rated 89 points: 18 months since the last bottle and still holding up very well. Bold yellow (with lime highlights), wax, honey and gasoline. Nutty with plenty of acidity still. Now or hold. Good QPR at $15. (78 views) | | Tasted by WineCenturyAZ on 11/19/2022 & rated 90 points: Delicious. Proof of the value of screw caps in preserving freshness. Fresh, clean and integrated. Pale lemon in the glass, bottle opens with a release of CO2, nose opens with blossom and citrus, palate is dry, fruit leads with Meyer lemon, lime, green melon, honeydew, herbaceous, bright acidity, medium + body, long and lingering finish. (246 views) | | Tasted by LucieEllen on 7/23/2022: Sadly. Dominated by wood, hardly any fruit left. Dumped it.
Might be good QPR for others, but not to my taste. (312 views) | | Tasted by BVal on 6/8/2022 & rated 82 points: 55% Grenache Blanc, 45% Roussanne; 14.4% Etoh. Closeout buy for $13 at NH State stores.
Color/App: pours significantly paler than the '19 Tablas Creek Esprit Blanc next to it; medium- viscosity. Aggressive bouquet of oak, fresh-mowed grass, lemon, honeydew melon and diesel fuel. Somewhat bitter palate showing oak, stone fruit, peach, apple and oak. Not enough fruit and too much wood. Can't recommend this, even at $13. (281 views) | | Tasted by pdadams66 on 5/12/2022 & rated 89 points: Pale golden yellow, clear rim. Honeydew and cantaloup melon, apricot stones, waxy and a little nutty, some riesling petrol notes. Smooth, tropical notes and honey, melon rinds, good acidity still, dried grass and hazelnuts on the finish. Very good Rhone blend, drinking well now but has life left, great QPR at $15. (287 views) | | Tasted by cos65 on 4/3/2022 & rated 88 points: Pale yellow. Light easy refreshing lemon flavors. Seems almost off dry with enough acidity to keep it fresh. Perfect light easy refreshing bistro wine bordering on porch pounder (287 views) | | Tasted by bavaur on 8/5/2020 & rated 88 points: Opens a little flat but with strong acidity, however develops robust citrus flavours of grapefruit and lemons as it warms slightly. Great Sauvignon Blanc equivalent, definitely not a heavy, hedonistic Rhône. (444 views) |
| Bonny Doon Vineyard Producer website
Bonny Doon was sold in early 2020 to "WarRoom", a wine production and marketing entity formed in 2018. Per a January 2020 Decanter article - https://www.decanter.com/wine-news/californias-bonny-doon-sold-430550/ - "Graham will retain creative control of Bonny Doon’s wines, but production will change from 35,000 cases of 15 different wines annually to just four wines: the flagship red Rhône blend Le Cigare Volant; Le Cigare Blanc (based on Vermentino); Vin Gris de Cigare (a Rhône varietal rosé); and a 100% Picpoul."White Rhone BlendA white wine containing two or more Rhône varieties, including: Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson CaliforniaNapa Valley.http://www.stagecoachvineyard.com/vineyards/our_vineyards.php Santa Ynez.http://www.everyvine.com/org/Camp_Four/vineyard/Camp_Four/ |
