Tasted by IAmVintage on 6/18/2022 & rated 91 points: A fun BBQ party wine that everyone enjoyed (interestingly including the non-Cab fans (Rhone rangers)) (744 views)
Tasted by VAD on 7/5/2020 & rated 90 points: Pop and pour. A little bit of heat at the finish when we first had it. Over the night it got better. It’s a fine wine, nothing amazing. (1724 views)
Tasted by brasstab on 3/25/2020 & rated 91 points: Won’t change your life, but delivers much pleasure. Aged nicely, with balanced fruit and excellent structure. Not a lot of finish tho. (1745 views)
Tasted by Racer117 on 7/24/2019: This might not be very good Cabernet, but it is a very good red wine. About the only Cabernet Sauvignon tipicity I get out of this is Bell pepper. And it's more like bell pepper liqueur.

This pours out black and opaque; intense and hot nose of dark berry and coffee; viscous rich hot body with lots of berry flavor and splintery oak.

Rating this as a Cabernet , I would give it 84 to 87 points. As a red wine in general, it truly is a 90 point + wine. Would be curious to try this at 20 years. Or more!

This is definitely a love it or hate it kind of wine and I've surprised myself with how much I enjoy it. I'd like to try this with 20 or more years of age. (2113 views)
Tasted by Hover low 64 on 8/15/2018 & rated 92 points: I bought this wine during a trip to Napa about four years ago. I had a small tasting then at an Orin Swift store and loved it. It was much more refined and powerful tonight. For the Cabernet aficionados who read this, you might rate this as average. However, if you consider the WINE itself, like I did, you might reconsider your evaluation. After a 1 hour decant, this wine tasted more like a Syrah than a cab, in my view. Deep aromas of blackberry and spice, it led to flavors of dark red and black fruits, coffee, vanilla, stones, and pepper. Very mouth filling with supple tannins and a lovely, long finish - we really enjoyed this wine. I really wish we had another bottle or 12! (2602 views)
Tasted by libero on 6/30/2018 & rated 90 points: Let is breath for one hour or more. (2322 views)
Tasted by libero on 6/30/2018 & rated 90 points: Dark chocolate taste, like Cote du Rhône an Chateauneuf du Pape. (1808 views)
Tasted by bxskier on 3/17/2018 & rated 94 points: Probably my favorite Orin swift wine. (2007 views)
Tasted by Scott Shapiro on 7/31/2017 & rated 90 points: OK easy drinking. (2771 views)
Tasted by sellerscellar on 12/20/2016 & rated 91 points: Still drinking nicely. Balanced, feminine...not your typical powerhouse Cab. Think left bank Bordeaux, but much softer, and not quite as much terroir presented. Enjoyable. (2987 views)
Tasted by Cholera on 11/8/2016 & rated 92 points: Quite good pop and pour on election night 2016. Initially quite tight and wound with heavy notes of alcohol and unrefined tannins. Gradually of the course of an hour and a half within the bottle, tannins softened with notes of plums, dark fruit, sweet raisins luxardo cherries and licorice develop.
Dark, dense and chewy like most Orin Swift Cabernets (think Papillon)
2010 Cabernet with plenty of good fruit still available. Likely another 5-10 years ahead of it (2813 views)
Tasted by VAD on 7/24/2016 & rated 91 points: Pretty intense and heavy cab. Drinking pretty well right now. Good balance and finish. (3155 views)
Tasted by bbcc66 on 7/10/2016 & rated 90 points: Decanted for 2 hrs. Fruit-forward tastes of cherry, plum, dark fruits, mocha, pepper. Yet soft & smooth on the tongue. Drinking really well now. Maybe better later? (2886 views)
Tasted by bjamesclark on 4/5/2016 & rated 92 points: Decanted
Shows moderate-plus intensity in aromas of currant, wild cherry, and plum with scents of cedar, herbs of bay leaf and thyme, mocha, pencil shavings, vanilla, black pepper and a hint of floral.
On the palate full bodied with great structure. Medium-plus acidity, tannins and alcohol. Flavors follow suit and show currant, dark cherry and plum, herbs, cedar, vanilla, mocha, pencil shavings, black pepper and a touch of cigar smoke. Long on the plush finish.
Still has a ton of life (2311 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 3/3/2016 & rated 91 points: PnP w/30 min decant. Clear, deep purple, nice legs. Good med proper nose. Light to medium body, clean, good balance, easy to drink, decent finish. Nothing off. $28 (2032 views)
Tasted by sellerscellar on 2/8/2016 & rated 91 points: For their entry level Cab, this is great juice. It's the declassified cab that they don't use in the Mercury Head or Papillon. But it's creamy, toasty, balanced, easy to drink, unique label art concept...usually Orin Swift wines are over the top with their ABV %, but this wine isn't dominated by the alcohol at all. This is always one of my go-to CA cabs. Very solid QPR at $38 USD/btl. (1939 views)
Tasted by Mtnmd1 on 1/30/2016 & rated 90 points: Giant plush cab, good if you're in the mood for that sort of thing (1546 views)
Tasted by ZachF88 on 6/8/2015 & rated 89 points: Typical Dave Phinney wine that is big, rich, and over extracted. One of his better wines though. Drinking well now, so start drinking. Falvors of blueberry, plum, dark berries, slight oak, heat, and that was about it. (2382 views)
Tasted by lockestep on 4/4/2015 & rated 88 points: Not bad, but mostly a one-trick pony. It tastes like Napa Cab, medium body, decent finish, drinking well, but never really gets you thinking. Or saying to yourself "I want more of that". (2472 views)
Tasted by jctra on 9/25/2014 & rated 91 points: Gets better every time.
Decent nose, blackberry, cassis, cigar box and stone on the palate. Medium body, medium finish. Nice, sweet tannins. Not to complex but easy drinking.
Drink now or hold for another couple of years. (3214 views)
Tasted by Romol on 8/24/2014 & rated 91 points: Decanted 2 hours. Better than last bottles, but for me eralier orin swift vintages (generally) were better. 91 pts (3105 views)
Tasted by bjamesclark on 4/12/2014 & rated 92 points: Part of the Palermo 4 year vertical.
Deep ruby hues with high viscosity and high concentration. the wine shows no rim variation and bright reflections.
Allowing to breathe opens up the wine to express aromas of currant, fresh picked cherries, herbs of bay leaf and thyme, cedar, brambly blackberry, baking chocolate, black pepper and fresh ground espresso beans.
The full bodied palate is structured with medium+ acidity, moderate + plush tannins and moderate+ alcohol. Flavors of currant, red cherries, blackberry, dark coffee, dark chocolate, wood, graphite, herbs, black pepper, vanilla and burnt sugar.
The finish is long and moderate+ in intensity.

Overall well structured and showing slightly better than the 09 and the most classic cab notes of the 09-12 vertical, with the highest acidity. (3882 views)
Tasted by smileBD on 3/2/2014 & rated 89 points: Really nice, rich cab. As we drank it while watching the oscars it continued to open up and drank even better. I have never had never had Palermo but will definitely buy it in the future. It's a great cab for the cost and will be my new go to with Provenance the other go to everyday wine. Always looking for really good Cabs under $40. (3438 views)
Tasted by gavinesq on 11/22/2013 & rated 93 points: Fat but not at all flabby. Well-extracted fruit, mostly very ripe plums. Cocoa nibs and slight hints of wintergeen. A little tight but opened up beautifully with some air. (3839 views)
Tasted by Lax4 on 11/1/2013 & rated 88 points: Drank with dinner. Nice bodied wine for the price. (2982 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
