Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 93.2 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 10 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Rupert on 6/22/2023: Big, sumptuous, quite advanced (299 views)
Tasted by rlove on 7/31/2021 & rated 94 points: Bernard Moreau's 2013 Chevalier-Montrachet is incredibly rich and concentrated with apple, pear, crushed stone, and lots of spice. Round and fleshy on the palate but kept lively by a ripe acidity that frame dense spiced apple flavors. Now in its drinking window, which should hold for a decade. (863 views)
Tasted by Jammy Wine on 5/18/2021 & rated 92 points: Bernard Moreau Chevy is sublime as always, generous and refined at the same time. The high intensity and bright acidity can easily be mistaken as a 2014. Tasted blind - Full throttle lemon and zesty tree fruits, nice reduction and subtle smokey wood flavours. Some resemblance to PYCM style, perhaps more lactic on the palate. Full bodied with high acidity. 2014 Bienvenues Batard / Chevalier Montrachet? (92/100) (1276 views)
Tasted by BenBlu on 9/16/2020 & rated 93 points: On the nose a bit weak at first in a flight of more reductive styled whites. Very pure though. Also on the palate pure and expressive, nice fruit and wouldn't have had it down as 13, felt like a warmer year (maybe 15?). Very harmonious and in any other setting would have been tremendous but I thought it the weakest wine of the flight. (1081 views)
Tasted by Robert Pavlovich on 7/30/2020: Surprisingly accessible, and rounded, all layers showing a soft touch and ease of access. The fruit is framed well with soft touches of acidity, minerality and well integrated supporting structure. One of the more seductive white burgundies I’ve had in a while, and with some good depth and resonance. I wouldn’t have been surprised if someone told me this was a 2007. Good example of how it really pays to move to the grand crus in a cool vintage like 13. (1067 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 5/18/2019 & rated 94 points: Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Spiaggia - Chicago IL): Small glass, brief note. Incredibly rich start with floral, spice and ripe apple through. Dense while near perfectly balanced with good+ length. Upside from here. (1702 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/9/2019 & rated 93 points: La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Rich and powerful with lots of apple followed by peach hints. Subtle spice throughout. Very enjoyable, but the Bâtard-Montrachet in the next glass was better. This might benefit from a little more cellar time. (1490 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 7/3/2015: Domaine Bernard Moreau Cellar Visit and Tasting (Chassagne-Montrachet): Tasting at the domaine. Aromas and flavors of Apple, quince and lemon peel with enormous spice. Stony, precise mineral character from start-to-finish. Massive finish. 96-98 point potential here. (2456 views)
Tasted by vespasian on 11/3/2014 & rated 93 points: Not the most expressive but has real class, nuanced, very complex; rich, seductive. Builds very well. Quite tight though very good potential. 92-94+ (1691 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 5/12/2014: Tasting (Mostly) 2012 and 2013 at Domaine Bernard Moreau (Chassagne-Montrachet): Barrel tasting at domaine. ML complete. Sensational. Lots of apple and pear aromas and flavors with great density. Subtle spice and floral elements start-to-finish. This is exactly what I think of the precise Chevalier-Montrachet, epitomized by great concentration and depth, while yet shy and subtle. A great wine in the making. (2533 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
