Tasted by radumas on 4/2/2024 & rated 89 points: Mature, complex, develops after opened. It may have some years ahead, but might be at its peak. (1295 views)
Tasted by OttawaB on 3/17/2024 & rated 92 points: Similar to previous note. Good dark brambly fruit element. (1294 views)
Tasted by Tuvan on 3/8/2024 & rated 90 points: Very mature butiker still enjoyable (1390 views)
Tasted by jkazzoun on 2/16/2024 & rated 93 points: Yum. Again. Must buy more Ridge. Fairly fruit heavy, but just this side of jammy. Call it “rich”. Very much in its prime. (1640 views)
Tasted by wineshaman on 2/11/2024 & rated 91 points: Pnp, fruity nose, jammy, smooth, a bit of RS, but in check, nice long finish. This bottle was fully integrated, but shows no signs of fading, cellared since 2016, last tasted 7/2021 with consistent notes. (1665 views)
Tasted by Jabulani on 1/28/2024 & rated 91 points: Rich, opulent, heady aromas of creamy dark fruit, cedar and cloves - very attractive. The palate is more restrained and a touch warm, with a slightly dried character from age. Very enjoyable, more so than the 2013 Lytton Springs tried alongside, albeit in a very broad, sweet way which isn't for everyone. (1622 views)
Tasted by winespine on 12/31/2023 & rated 94 points: Wowzers. It's right in the middle of its drinking window and is drinking so well right now. Everything we love in a Zin blend: briary, brambly, smooth tannins, oak fully integrated. Decanted briefly and served with hard cheeses during happy hour on NYE. Ridge Geyserville doesn't get much better than this. (1964 views)
Tasted by SeaWine on 12/1/2023: Solid, enjoyable and finely balanced. Still not sure whether I prefer Geyserville younger or at around this age. More experimenting to come! (1918 views)
Tasted by markydecker on 10/31/2023 & rated 92 points: One hour decant. Bottle was perfectly stored since purchase from the winery. I’ve always known from personal experience with these that 10 years brings out the best, and this is no exception. Slightest of bricking, with jammy crushed blue fruit soaring from the glass. Great balance, soft tannins, best after 3rd hour open. Still has long life ahead. Patience is rewarded. Delicious. (2145 views)
Tasted by Bearesentials on 10/28/2023 & rated 91 points: Drinking beautifully right now, I think 10 years from vintage is perfect for this wine. Had with ribeye, garlic mash and broccoli, paired perfectly. (1824 views)
Tasted by timewithwine on 10/15/2023: This vintage of Geezer is a blend of Zinfandel (73%), Carignane (17%), Petite Sirah, (9%), and Mourvedre (1%) (no Alicante Bouschet!). At age 10 it’s showing no real age, with garnet on the rim and deep plum at the core. Its ample bouquet of cherry, plum, brown sugar, a bit of rhubarb, cinnamon and vanilla exudes from the glass. The elegant palate tracks the bouquet with each flavor having ample time in the spotlight. The velvety mouthfeel helps the bottle empty quickly. Some slight sediment. 14.7% alc., but no heat at all on the palate. With grilled sausages from Yellow Umbrella. 10.15.23. Recommended. (1793 views)
Tasted by Andrew Vaughan on 9/30/2023 & rated 92 points: Seemed a bit heavier and jammier on the first day, but corked it and had the 2nd half the next day at it was really singing. Had a slight bounce to its step, not as jammy, nicely balanced and very pleasing. (1925 views)
Tasted by wchrisw on 9/10/2023: This is svelte and feminine. Give it ample air time. It will take an hour or 3 before its awkwardness blows off. Clean and pure with red berry notes. Don’t overpower it with food or spice. It’s gentle like a fawn. Caress this over the next 5 years. (2050 views)
Tasted by JDB on 7/17/2023 & rated 93 points: Yup, worth the wait! Delicious. Pulled the cork and let it sit for 1 hour, last glass was the best but it is “en pointe” (2096 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 6/11/2023 & rated 91 points: Drinking quite well. Very nice blend. Bold fruit, solid foundation. (2126 views)
Tasted by sastewart on 5/23/2023 & rated 92 points: Opened 30 minutes ahead. Great wine, brambly fruit and spice on the nose. Full bodied but not over the top with good balance of tannins and acid. Brambly red and black fruits carry through to a nice finish. Purchased on release and stored at 55 degrees, this should continue to evolve for several years. Solid 92 points (2099 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 5/10/2023 & rated 91 points: One of those blends that makes you appreciate 10 yo wines. (2167 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 4/16/2023 & rated 91 points: Elegant is probably the best description. Very nice fruit, fairly light without being a pinot. Hit the spot. (2090 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 4/12/2023 & rated 87 points: Drinking very well. Great blend. Enjoyed with Kurt and Jenna and San Diego. (1916 views)
Tasted by Andrewbdc on 4/2/2023 & rated 91 points: My first experience of an aged zinfandel of excellent quality. We all very much enjoyed this - its a big wine but the fruit, acidity, alcohol and tannins are all in balance. There is still a lot of primary black fruit - particularly blackcurrant - but tertiary notes of chocolate, leather and spice are developing too. Very much enjoyed. This certainly has plenty of life ahead of it. (1730 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 3/19/2023 & rated 92 points: Drinking really well and a steal however much I paid (1885 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 3/12/2023 & rated 92 points: An excellent blend that time has been very good. (1863 views)
Tasted by MRichman on 3/7/2023: Dark fruit with coffee, leather, tar, sap. This is past its energetic, exuberant stage and is into middle age. Not my favorite stage for Ridge Zins, but of course this is very enjoyable anyway. A lovely wine with pretty fruit and starting to evolve its delicate flavors. Probably best to wait another 5+ years to drink my last bottle. (1823 views)
Tasted by rjsmall on 3/3/2023: Deep, dark, dense red colour. Tight nose - hints of dark fruits, cedar and spice. Dark fruits, cedar, pepper and spice flavours. Long finish, still fresh. Lovely bottle with time left in it. (1699 views)
Tasted by ChateauShiny on 2/11/2023 & rated 89 points: Decanted for sediment and given about 20ish minutes of air. Medium-dark purple-garnet in color. Nose of mulled blackberries, blueberries, a hint of strawberries, dark cocoa, a lot of cedar, and a tiny touch of tobacco. Every now and then I get a slight hint of mushrooms and soy sauce.

Medium-heavy bodied, with medium acidity. Palate is a bit lackluster and lacks the depth of the nose. Blueberries and blackberries with a bit of cigar box. Ample mellowing tannins quickly whisk away the fruit and replace it with a complex profile of minerals. Very refreshing finish of graphite, limestone, saline, a dash of dark cocoa, and a bit of dill and lavender.

As I try out more older vintages of Geyserville – it just confirms that I prefer Geyserville on the young side. This is lacking the layers and depth that I get from younger bottles. Going to leave it in the decanter for a lot longer. Will update if my TNs change drastically on this one.

After a few more hours in the decanter - the only change I get is a ton of spearmint on the finish. (1794 views)

Ridge

Producer website | Wikipedia

Ridge Vineyards is a California winery specializing in premium Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay wines. Ridge produces wine at two winery locations in northern California. The original winery facilities are located at an elevation of 2,300 feet (700 m) on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA near Cupertino, California. The other Ridge winery facilities are at Lytton Springs in the Dry Creek Valley AVA of Sonoma County.

Ridge Geyserville

(Ridge Spring 2012 Wine Club notes)

In 1966, Ridge made its first Geyserville from a strip of river rock and clay soils along the abandoned San Francisco and Northern Pacific tracks. Over time, we have added two adjoining vineyards on this same defined site. Each vintage is distinct but typical flavor characteristics include the blackest of blackberry fruit, ripe plum, cedar, and a distinctive mineral quality.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
