Community Tasting Notes (average 94.3 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 36 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Waedi on 12/24/2023 & rated 93 points: Still very young. Wait 5 years for next bottle to open. (815 views)
Tasted by Claret & CdP Gang on 9/24/2023 & rated 93 points: Served blind, guessed Brunello Sangiovese due to a sweetish finish, great nose, a bottle that was opened on Tuesday & half bottle kept til today, still very big but finesse, really typical of the 2010 vintage, great fruits, complexity, depth but will benefit from more age, best after 2028 (1131 views)
Tasted by Inforred on 6/18/2023 & rated 95 points: Slight problem with cork, ruby color, soft tannins, seamless and lingering flavors of cherry, oak. Fully opened after about 30 minutes. Perfect with both pasta and duck. One of my favorite brunellos (1527 views)
Tasted by UFGators on 6/5/2023 & rated 96 points: This bottle shows tertiary flavors and is drinking nicely pop and pour. Drink now or hold for more development. 96+ at this point (1451 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 4/5/2023 & rated 92 points: Wines Before / At / After a Passover Seder (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL): Small glass. Sweet black and red cherry, maturing faster than I might expect for wine at this level, with lots of leather and forest floor already through. Lots here to enjoy, with good weight and nuance coming through, but best to enjoy by 2030. (2541 views)
Tasted by DrZett on 1/28/2023 flawed bottle: Badly corked. (1563 views)
Tasted by CHarder on 1/14/2023 & rated 94 points: This is wonderful. Fruit, fresh, smooth. Perfectly balanced. Years ahead but already open for business with a short decant. (1269 views)
Tasted by Abrez on 1/11/2023: Brandon gave to me for Mother’s Day 5/13/2018

Tasted by WineRay05 on 11/10/2022 & rated 97 points: Tasted at winery. Truly remarkable wine. Best Brunello I tasted during my Tuscany trip. Well balanced, lots of fruits on the palate, good acidity and soft tannins. Long finish. Drinking beautifully now. (1269 views)
Tasted by Kozakofthewest on 7/1/2022 & rated 93 points: Excellent , give it an hour and it opens up with balanced fruit, mushrooms and a clear feel. Been looking around for a good Italian for 9 month and I might have just found it. I think its in a good spot now but might evolve over next 5 years. If you have it don't be afraid to open up quite enjoyable! (1615 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 5/8/2022: my note from 2020 says "open and giving" (or similar), this has shut down a bit, the material / body is there but hiding a bit behind some significant structure... I noticed all three notes of others from 2021 and 2022 mention 'time needed'... I agree... I have two more on the way, and I plan on putting them down for 7-10 years, NR for this tasting, but I think 93 pt pot'l again in the future (my score from 2020 was 92 pts) (1572 views)
Tasted by dkentaustin on 1/6/2022 & rated 94 points: Ruby red color. Raspberry, red currant, wet tobacco leaves, sweet floral notes, cranberry and orange peel. Light, bright palate with some tartness and chalky tannins. Earth floor begins to show along with saddle leather as the wine opens up.

p.s. stuffed cornish game hens with asparagus (1964 views)
Tasted by UFGators on 12/24/2021 & rated 93 points: A solid 93. My prior tasting notes/ reviews were done when I was new in the wine world. This wine has a big tannic structure and lots more to give in the future. It may have been more open and fruit forward in its youth but now it stuck between primary and secondary maturation. It’s not shut down but I am more optimistic for future. 93-96. Hold (1870 views)
Tasted by tk54 on 9/18/2021 & rated 91 points: Too young. Needs a few more years (1990 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 12/12/2020 & rated 92 points: very nice Brunello (but for me its not -- as some other notes seem to imply -- up there with Soldera, for example... found this very nice, easy-going drink but also with some decent oomph / pleasing fruit, like many Sangiovese wines this will please the crowd for sure, and also please the wino's, like many '10's it has some structure but not as much as many other "outstanding" vintages, therefore ready now and should be at this level for 10 more years (but not 25) (2671 views)
Tasted by joshabramson on 11/24/2020 & rated 92 points: I find this to be too young and not very expressive at this stage. Clearly has good bones, but needs more time. (2423 views)
Tasted by Bernt Olav on 4/17/2020 & rated 95 points: Flott Brunello tilsvarende forrige 2/28/2020. (3000 views)
(2958 views)
Tasted by dnnk88 on 9/6/2019 & rated 91 points: Nose of black fruits, red fruits, strawberry cake, peppers. Tasted black fruits, mint leaves, incense, tobacco, soil. Nice, long mint finish. Rounded and nice mouthfeel. This needs more time but the foundations are there. Hold (3526 views)
Tasted by Markus IWC on 6/21/2019 & rated 92 points: Top Brunello provning med Sergio på La Fortezza, vin 9:

Nr 2 av 30 för Sergio vid blind provning av Brunello Riserva från toppårgången 2010.

Rustik stil med jord, tobak, trä, läder, rök och mörka körsbär.

Len och rund munkänsla, snyggt integrerade tanniner, hög koncentration, mörk frukt. 14,5% alkohol.

Tasted by UFGators on 3/24/2019: This wine keeps getting better and better. After an hour decant this wine is full of wet earth and cheery with a long finish. As far as I am concerned this is as good as it gets with brunello from the best vintage of the last 20 years. Will only get better with age. Drink or hold. (3520 views)
Tasted by UFGators on 8/11/2018 & rated 97 points: Outstanding brunello. I see this touching 99-100 with some age. Opened nicely with some decanter time. James sucking called this one correctly at 99. (3703 views)
Tasted by UFGators on 6/23/2018 & rated 100 points: Another outstanding showing for this wine! Decanted for 4 hours before first sip. Intoxicating aromas can be detected from the glass 5 feet away. This wine lets it’s presence be known. Hard to describe the complexity of this wine that will emerge with even more bottle age. Tanins are present but smooth enough to be enjoyed now. Hard to imagine a better brunello. Drink or hold. (4070 views)
Tasted by UFGators on 5/17/2018 & rated 100 points: 2.5 hour decant then poured back into the bottle and brought to dinner. Tons of complexity with a long finish. I can tell that there are also let notes hidden in background that will come out with age. So hard to resist now. If someone can tell me a better Brunello please let me know. My favorite Brunello and Italian wine so far. (3754 views)
Tasted by UFGators on 4/14/2018 & rated 100 points: Simply amazing. Had it at dinner with friends after a short decant. It was full of life, fruit and complexity with very little air. Stone fruit notes and extremely complex body with a very long finish. I cannot find any faults in this wine and I enjoyed every second of it so I am giving this wine a perfect score. It’s by far the best Italian wine I have had so far and in my top 5 wines of all time. (3334 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
