Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 43 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by markjanes on 12/10/2023: QN: have had 2 of these now recently... they just aren't getting better in the way i thought they would. deeply colored, pineapple, minerals, honey, wool. on the palate there are high acids and a somewhat disjointed palate. likely past its prime. (453 views)
Tasted by remyworldpeace on 4/16/2023 & rated 92 points: Lemon, flinty smokey stone, chalk. Touch of oak. Good acidity but not overwhelming. Feels good value at the price (€60).

Blind tasted I thought this was a Chardonnay - Grand Cru Chablis. Satisfied because an MW in the group agreed... (705 views)
Tasted by jlm on 4/14/2022: Light gold. Classic Chenin notes, which others have described well below. Stony texture on the palate is the best thing about this wine. But I don't find that its much of a step up in complexity from the Moulins. Maybe this bottle was just a little off though. (1153 views)
Tasted by philmtl on 1/15/2022: Really good. The nose is complex and intriguing: lemon, pear, quince, vegetal aromas (dried herbs, root vegetables) and some floral notes. The palate is all about texture: it opens pretty full with nice density and some creaminess but then the acidity really pierces through on the mid-palate and it finishes on nice chalky minerality. This is an interesting and delicious wine. It has the structure to continue to age beautifully but I don't know the track record here in regards to oxidation. It drinks very nicely now but I'll hold the other 5-7 years to see how it evolves. (1491 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 1/2/2022: Pop and pour. Wow, this has evolved in the last 1.5 years. Lovely nose of tarragon, soft sweet green pepper, a hint of lanolin, lemon..a lovely savory and sweet mix. On the palate: fantastic acidity, amazing density; sweet apple, tarragon, sweet pepper, loads of stony minerality, sea salt. Intensely flavored, and a nice long finish. Flat out stunning right now.  Tasted by drwine2001 on 12/24/2021: Dull, full yellow. Great waxy texture, roundness, and length. A mouthful of lemony goodness with enough acidity to hold it all together and just the lightest oxidative note which adds complexity here. (1691 views)
Tasted by gretsch2holton on 10/28/2021 & rated 89 points: Liked better than previous btl T enjoyed, too. Faint oak but well integrated ripe chenin fruit. Enjoyed with chx. (1262 views)
Tasted by jorivesud on 12/13/2020: Paille doré avec reflet vert.
(1703 views)
Tasted by Frank Schneider on 11/29/2020 & rated 94 points: Stony, creamy with tension , all in balance. Very good loire ! (1636 views)
Tasted by gretsch2holton on 11/3/2020 & rated 89 points: Tasty and easy drinking with chx and veggie burgers. T thought was OK only. (1502 views)
91-92 (2031 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 6/28/2020: Another lovely showing. Beyond my previous notes: on the nose, pear, tarragon. Lovely acidity, still very primary and so yummy. (1669 views)
Tasted by Villon on 2/14/2020 & rated 92 points: Délicieux. 92 (1817 views)
Tasted by melvinyeowq on 1/2/2020: Still very tight and unforgiving, didn’t budge even after both lunch and dinner. Crisp and lots of tartness. Opened way too young but the structure of the wine is impressive. (2066 views)
Tasted by arthrovine on 11/24/2019: Beautiful wine. I have nothing to add except that our last glass at 6 hours was the best. I wish I would have decanted this substantially (or opened much earlier) prior to serving (1642 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 11/4/2019: I love this wine so much. Delivered again. Lovely. Lemon oil, a suggestion of nuttiness, wet stone with a hint of moss and nettle. Fantastic acidity, lemon oil, a touch of tangerine, crushed stone, a touch of spice. Lemon oil finish....so good. (1541 views)
Tasted by vinhslee on 8/20/2019 & rated 95 points: Masses of acidity to support intense flavours of lemon tart, ginger, with a hint of waxy, honey, wool, oak, smokey, metallic/steely flavours with good dose of minerality. The structure is here, ideal for further ageing. (1942 views)
Tasted by Voodoo_Champagne on 5/23/2019: Fantastic nose and color taste fresh and creamy delicious. (2256 views)
Tasted by markjanes on 4/22/2019 & rated 91 points: deeply colored, dark straw yellow rim. on the nose this is clearly a very mineral driven style... stones and then some apple and wool notes. on the palate dry, very high acids, a broad mineral soaked midpalate, some phenolics, low alcohol. balanced wine with good (though not great) length, great mineral intensity (very cru like), good complexity. this blind could very easily have been GC chablis to me especially on the palate... length is only thing holding this back from being at the quality level of their breze... drinks well now, decanted but didn't really open it up much, but i think i'd wait a year or two for my next bottle. (1721 views)
Tasted by benjamin96 on 4/2/2019 & rated 89 points: Beau chenin de texture grasse. Bouquet assez tipique.

(1723 views)
(2075 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 1/11/2019 & rated 92 points: Floral and mineral aromas with notes of butter (full malo). Dry and tart, focused and very intense on the palate. A great Saumur! (1586 views)
92+ (1680 views)

HISTORY OF THE DOMAIN

Since 1996, Romain Guiberteau has run a fabulous 14.5 hectare estate south of Saumur. Mainly composed of Cabernet Franc (6 hectares) and Chenin (8.5 hectares), it brilliantly produces 3 red wines and 5 white wines from vines with an average age of 40 years.

Recognized for a very long time for the high quality of its whites, the estate took a major step in 2003 by switching to organic farming: the soils are worked and grassed naturally; and only sulphur, copper and plant decoctions are used in the treatment of the vine.

Thus the reds have gained in finesse and brilliance and today reveal a sophistication and elegance worthy of the Saumur appellation. As for the whites, they have reached a delicacy of aromas like the great whites of Burgundy!
