| Community Tasting Notes (average 92.4 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 46 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by DWStyle on 2/10/2024 & rated 93 points: 93+ needs 2-4 more years for the oak to meld. Juice, balanced and delicious with a sustained finish. Enjoyable now but I’m going to give it some more cellar time to settle the oak.Opened up very nicely at the end of the bottle! Maybe selling this one a little short… (951 views) | | Tasted by Trolson on 2/3/2024 & rated 86 points: Disappointed. Maybe not ready. (786 views) | | Tasted by DWStyle on 1/24/2024 & rated 91 points: Pop n pour! Ready to go, in business! What ever it’s drinking time! I need to. Get busy I got like a case of this wine, thankfully so! (984 views) | | Tasted by Slaz on 9/4/2023 & rated 91 points: Very much accessible, with a brief decanting. Not the most structured of Corison's historical vintages, with more upfront fruit (floral and blue berries dominate) and some softness in the mid-palate. Probably best enjoyed over the next three years or so (Galloni's window of up to 2035 seems overly generous to me). (1317 views) | | Tasted by Wine_Hoarder on 1/27/2023 & rated 92 points: Via coravin but drank within about 3-4 days. Kept going back to it. I'm pleased I opened this. It was a good reminder to me to avoid putting a wine on a pedestal and avoid opening it until the perfect occasion. This occasion was a Friday eve after a long week. The bottle was just really tasty. Drink now or hold for a few years. I'm not particularly convinced it will improve but that is not a criticism it is just my comment on how approachable it is now. This is surprisingly light on the palate yet concentrated. There's a lovely floral edge to the wine (agree with roses mentioned below, this quality emerged after about 20 mins in the glass) which I have never encountered before with Cab Sauv. Balanced, fruity, interesting, drink with or without food, no complaints whatsoever, get stuck in. (2202 views) | | Tasted by achasd on 12/19/2022 & rated 92 points: Another Corison winner. No one makes Napa cab in the refined, age-worthy style and this 2015 is just coming into its window. Black fruit, cigars. (1837 views) | | Tasted by wgmccallum on 11/9/2022 & rated 95 points: Dark ruby garnet. Aromas of dark plum. cinnamon, roses, toasty oak. Deep penetrating dark fruit on the palate, weight without heaviness (as Steve Matthiasson says), strong acids and tannins, salty black licorice, medium body, beautifully balanced. 13.6% alcohol. (1904 views) | | Tasted by achasd on 7/18/2022 & rated 92 points: Showing great promise but drinking well now. Cathy Corison hits another vintage perfectly. (2514 views) | | Tasted by domco on 5/30/2022: Decanted for 3-4 hours and was still a little tight at first. A lot of dark fruits, some tannin, a little earth and as always a nice vein of acidity to keep it fresh. Still think it needs a few years for the tannins to soften a bit more. (2177 views) | | Tasted by KAT9 on 2/27/2022 & rated 92 points: On the nose, dark fruits, earthy, older than it actually is. On the palate, tannin and acidity are balance, well integrated. Smooth. Alc is only 13.6% so it is quite low. Decent effort. (2349 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 11/24/2021: Cedar and black earth and cassis fruit. Soft and textured on the palate. Really quite lovely with lots of depth. I wouldn't really hold it longer actually. (2501 views) | | Tasted by cubswinws on 11/12/2021 & rated 93 points: Still needs some time. Really opened up over the evening and I will hold off on the next one for a few years. (2096 views) | | Tasted by achasd on 8/24/2021 & rated 92 points: Cathy Corison makes the best cab in Napa. But she’s getting them ready a bit sooner 13.6 abv is a bit higher than her norm. This one has years to go - 5? Rich, fruity but still a tannic edge. (2701 views) | | Tasted by billyloveswine on 4/24/2021 & rated 93 points: 375ml opened with the 2016. Decanted both for 30 minutes before first glass and consumed over 3 hours. Compared to 2016 this was ready for business from the beginning, with lots of black cherry, blackcurrant on the nose. Lower acidity but higher tannins than the 2016. Started to show a slight lack of complexity on the palate as time went on. Long, satisfactory finish. Overall excellent wine. (2776 views) | | Tasted by Jahull03 on 2/23/2021: more tense/focused than the 2014, perhaps a touch less generous - which is a good trade-off for me. in a great spot right now. as it evolves I expect it to soften / but I'm quite enjoying the tension. (2664 views) | | Tasted by Otaku Oenophile on 7/26/2020 & rated 92 points: Pretty steep for 100 dollars.
Ironically reminds me of both Snowden wine making style and a bit what Chateau Margaux is like at least extremely young.
May give further thoughts until tomorrow.
Flinty granite... black currant...
It's either needs 5 years or so or not worth 100 bucks IMO... (3490 views) | | Tasted by mischwine on 7/12/2020 & rated 94 points: I was a bit worried I might be too early on this....but was impressed from the first sip! an incredibly well-balanced Cab. incredible feel in the mouth and a long finish. just kept getting better!! Impressive! (3010 views) | | Tasted by ziavino on 6/9/2020 & rated 93 points: Hard to rate. PnP on night one, with 2-3 hours of air time. Ungiving on the nose and palate, with faint notes of black currant and oak. Saved over half the bottle for night two, and while still somewhat tight, it opened up enough to show its structure and potential. Plum, black currant, spicy oak, and tar coalesce, but you know it needs another year or two (at least) to really sing. Rating is based on potential, because the quality is there in spades. (3056 views) | | Tasted by RLThorsen on 5/17/2020: After an hour of decanting, it is beautiful blueberry and blue fruit. Almost like a blueberry sauce (Acqua al 2). Delicate chocolate covered cherries but not a robust sugary cherry. Delicate. Gorgeous rose petals. Light alcohol taste despite it’s actual value.
Continues opening up- a bit of wax candle. Maybe wax candy. Apple.
Bouquet of roses. Beautiful. Elegance and delicate. Bit of oiled leather now. Still elegant apple and power. Almost overdrive of power. Pushing through Oiled leather and crisp red honey crisp apple. Lovely. Last drop was perfect
Final notes: could have used additional time decanted. The power was pushing through, even the last drop. The first hour with the blueberry was delicious. Alcohol pushed through the end more than it was in the beginning. (2793 views) | | Tasted by Cuellar's Cellar on 3/30/2020 & rated 92 points: Open it up. Still needs time, but if you do open, let it decant for a few hours (2985 views) | | Tasted by Slaz on 3/21/2020 & rated 93 points: Much more approachable than I expected, especially after 1+ hour of decanting. Juicy fruit with floral notes and no excess opulence. Likely to be at its peak over the next 5 years. (2426 views) | | Tasted by Keith Cooper on 11/18/2019 & rated 92 points: Tasted at The Wine Society's USA tasting, London, UK. Dark plum. Classy, refined nose. Great fruit on the palate, cassis, cherry, leather. Complex. Excellent. (3036 views) | | Tasted by LWI on 7/8/2019 & rated 92 points: Noe parfyme, noe svakt krydder, svakt eukalyptus; ganske strukturert, kjølig, noe krutt. (2944 views) | | Tasted by acidqueen on 6/23/2019 & rated 93 points: Deep, dark fruit. Denser vintage than typical. Needs time. Scent of violets hits you immediately and you can taste it as well. Wonderful. A bit of smoke too. Will be fantastic with more time although you could drink it now. (3323 views) | | Tasted by oldwines on 6/10/2019 & rated 92 points: Tasted at the winery. Aged like all the Corison Cabs in 50% new French oak and 50% one-year-old barrels. It is an opaque dark garnet with medium+ tannin and acidity. Nose is a little restrained due to its youth, I think. But, it is clearly tightly wound with violets, menthol, dark blue and black fruit and cedar. It seems slightly sweet fruited with round glycerine-like texture despite the mouth coating tannins. I also get some chocolate covered cherry, wet stones and boysenberry with a savory and spicy edge. Medium-full bodied. Long finish. The wine was better at the end of the tasting after 30 minutes or so in the glass. I think this will merit a higher score when it develops more in the bottle. Give it 10 years, at least, in a good cellar if you can. Also needs lots of air. 92++ Infanticide at this stage? Corison Winery is located just south of the town of St. Helena in the upper Napa Valley. They are on the west side of Highway 29, about a quarter mile north of Zinfandel Lane, at 987 St. Helena Highway, Saint Helena, CA 94574.Cabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)St. Helena Appellation Napa Valley The single vineyards on weinlagen-info |
