Community Tasting Notes (average 91.2 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 73 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by SWHighlander on 2/6/2024 & rated 92 points: Good not great. Better than their 2020, but outshown by 2017 Smith Haut Lafitte and 2015 Domaine de Chevalier for region's white wines. The 2018 has some nice acidity but just not the complexity of the other two mentioned above. Still, an enjoyable wine. (1229 views)
Tasted by Mnawacki on 12/24/2023 & rated 93 points: Absolutely divine. Zesty lemon and citrus notes meshed with a rich body of buttery salted toffee, amazing acidity and balance. Loved it. (1042 views)
Tasted by Spikemaster on 12/18/2023 & rated 91 points: Fresh, spikey nose of limes, fresh peach and some herbacious edge.on the palet followed by a creamy, nearly cookydough essence to top the previous aromas. Day three it definitely falls a little apart unfortunately. (1212 views)
Tasted by hiker_guy on 12/4/2023: In a nice spot
Nose was complex and lovely showing lots of citrus and touches of oak influence
Palate was rich, complex and crisp. Lemon oil, touch of vanilla, citrus, perfect acidity, long finish that demanded another sip.
Would buy again. (1173 views)
Tasted by lewisrise on 8/12/2023 & rated 95 points: Pale lemon, with medium intensity, youthful aromas of lemon curd, banana, pineapple, herbs, saline, butter, vanilla, caramel, butter cups. This wine has high alcohol and acidity along with medium plus body and flavor. This wine has flavors of lemon curd, butter, caramel, banana, almond and herbs. This wine has a long finish and is a very good wine that I would drink between now and 2030.

This one has a great backbone of acidity highlighted by flavors of lemon curd, almond, eucalyptus, caramel, with a very long finish. (1734 views)
Tasted by bugdoced on 7/27/2023 & rated 93 points: really good
in a really good early spot (1273 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 7/26/2023: Very tasty; aromatic and pleasant with good density and freshness. (1299 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 7/26/2023 & rated 91 points: PnP chilled. Clear, very light straw color. A very nice summer wine with the typical French minerality. Nice fruit, good balance, clean, sharp, not super dry and a good value at $36. Nothing off. (1208 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 7/23/2023 & rated 91 points: PnP, chilled. Clear, light straw color. Very nice white blend with typical French tastes. Nothing off. $36 (1340 views)
Tasted by Wino from Michigan on 6/10/2023 & rated 91 points: Good crisp white (1213 views)
Tasted by Bottle Dog on 6/8/2023 & rated 92 points: Pale straw in colour. Extremely aromatic of pineapple and citrus and green papaya. Similar palate, wonderful juicy acidity. Medium body. Very fresh tasting. Still young, and great to drink now, but I expecting fruit to mellow going forward. My guess is this becomes 93+ in a few years, but I have sense I will drink it all before then. Would be amazing with melon salad, fennel, or frisée with Dijon dressing. Sitting on the dock, in the sun, on a late warm afternoon. (465 views)
Tasted by dream on 4/15/2023 & rated 88 points: Couldn't compare to the '17 Chevalier Blanc drunk alongside but pretty in it's own right if more linear and obvious. Crisp and quaffable and very much improved after an hour in the glass. At Les Sources de Caudalie, Pessac-Leognan. (1574 views)
Tasted by Quaffing in Colorado on 2/27/2023 & rated 92 points: ALPHAMIKEFOXTROT's tasting note from 9/22 is spot on. This needs at least an hour decant to begin to come together, and will absolutely benefit from more cellar time. A decent qpr @ $35, which may markedly improve with aging. (1752 views)
Tasted by Renevin on 1/3/2023 & rated 91 points: Nez expressif, miel, agrumes. En bouche, bien équilibré, acidité amene une belle fraîcheur. Bonne longueur. Bien agréable (1871 views)
Tasted by Sean McGrath on 12/11/2022 & rated 90 points: Pleasant. Light oak, nice balance. I agree with WS that there is something like "tarragon, oyster shell" along with the fresh fruit -- this made it go nicely with our chicken. (1879 views)
Tasted by KSWinegeek on 11/4/2022 & rated 89 points: Straw color. Green pepper on nose. Pineapple, lime and vegetative/grass flavors. Grew on me with time. (1748 views)
Tasted by Decanting Queen on 10/22/2022 & rated 92 points: I am really enjoying the ‘18 vintage of this wine. Crisp and refreshing, great acid, lime, some tropical
Fruits, some herbal spicy greens. BB is not my favorite generally, but for some reason I always enjoy this one. (3105 views)
Tasted by AlphaMikeFoxtrot on 9/28/2022 & rated 92 points: Beautifully stemmy and green right now. White flowers, especially daffodils, fresh tarragon, chives, black pepper, green bell pepper and chile de arbol. Something vegetal too - cabbage and lentils. The cabbage is almost rotten but not quite (that's a compliment, by the way)

Medium + body, great acid. Developing - could drink now; but will benefit from further aging. (1872 views)
Tasted by Paul852 on 8/26/2022 & rated 86 points: 18 months on from my previous note it seems that, sadly, this vintage is far from the best.

What we have (even with a double decant for a couple of hours) is a very pleasant, easy drinking, but utterly unmemorable wine. White stone fruit on the nose; soft, fruity palate, but rather thin and light on acidity. Very short finish.

At ~US$15 this would be great, but at ~US$33 it's not a repeat buy for me. (2151 views)
Tasted by battytaxicab on 7/29/2022 & rated 90 points: Slightly off its prime. lovely smooth, velvety taste but loosing some of its crispness (1999 views)
Tasted by COWineLover on 7/23/2022 & rated 89 points: Recalling from my prior tasting experience this needed to be cooled down more than cellar temperature before consumption, this was stored in the refrigerator for about 90 minutes before serving with sushi. Serving temperature was about 48 degrees and it is probably better at 43-45 degrees. Aromatically generous with pronounced Meyer lemon, quince, Asian pear, and herbal tea. On the palate the acidity is not flabby, but it lacks the concentration of a quality Sancerre. This seems to be losing vigor from the prior bottle consumed several months ago. A solid attack with the Meyer lemon predominant but not much else going on. This turns abruptly in the mid palate into a limestone and mineral pastiness without much length.

For the price a respectable wine, but seems to lack the depth and complexity of other cool climate region Sauvignon Blanc. I continue to recommend this to be consumed by 2024, and possibly accelerating that timeline.

Day 1 - Score 88

Day 2 - Half the bottle was stored overnight in the refrigerator. Day 2 the wine cooled down and was served at 43 degrees after warming somewhat before serving. This temperature struck me as being in the right zip code. The acidity had a little more flashiness today where the Meyer lemon fans out on the palate allowing some lime notes to enter along with some salinity and more subtle limestone. A much better tasting experience.

Day 2 score 90. (2274 views)
Tasted by vanderpee on 7/23/2022 & rated 90 points: Very nice wine. Not quite the level I was hoping for but still complete, fresh, balanced and amiable. I think this will improve with some more yrs in bottle. 90+ (1915 views)
Tasted by ThijsV on 7/14/2022 & rated 91 points: [Holiday @ Domaine Bessière] under Diam 30 cork. Light lemon in color, medium intensity on the nose with aroma’s of (by lack of a better description) sweet green curry sauce, green tea, spices, hint of pineapple, a bit of boxwood, adding complexity but at the background, some nuttiness and nutmeg of the (new) wood. Medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, dry (but with some RS), medium+ finish. Normally not my go to white, but this is a lovely example (1815 views)
Tasted by RGCM Gananda on 7/13/2022 & rated 92 points: Mixed white orchard fruits and a distinct saline and mineral note on the nose. Medium bodied (13.5% ABV) with all white orchard fruit notes both upfront and through the middle and then a lot of citrus and tart fruit notes plus acidity come in on the backside. There's white pear and white melon upfront and then lemon plus acidity behind. Right now, this feels a bit young and on the tart side. As the mid-body opens up a bit more and those tart notes and acidity towards the back come together with the fruit, I think this wine will show more harmony and balance. The sauvignon blanc character is in charge for the moment, without the refining and complexity-adding elements from the semillon. The colder you serve this, the more it will bring out the sauvignon character and the more the tart notes will dominate. I opened this at 51F and let it warm from there, which allows the semillon to enter the picture. At some point, it comes down to a matter of personal preference for the style you're looking for from this wine. Overall, I think it needs more cellar time to show it's best and I'll plan to wait on my next bottle until July 2023. I may also buy some more to track how it evolves as I believe it has a good amount of future potential. (1575 views)
Tasted by ElJefeTX on 7/3/2022 & rated 93 points: Medium straw hue, slightly viscous, with fat tears around the glass. The nose unfurls fragrant fruit aromas of lemon creme and pineapple along with layers of earthier notes of dried basil, petrol, oyster shell and river rocks. The palate is saline silky with pleasant acidity, finishing long with citrus and buttered popcorn. (1694 views)

It is said that in the 18th century this wine was introduced to the Sultan of Constantinople’s palace because of its clarity and was called “mineral water from Carbonnieux”, thus defying the Islamic law.

Bordeaux Wine Guide

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
