Community Tasting Notes (average 89.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 65 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Mscard on 5/30/2021 & rated 91 points: Nose - Peat, coal, light floral notes, black pepper, chili spice. Palate - Surprisingly mellow and almost mute at first, then a big punch of smoke and spice. Finish - Smoke and pepper. (2567 views)
(2164 views)
Tasted by springdrive on 4/28/2020 & rated 88 points: Nose: Campfire, bacon fat, sea brine, seaweed – bacon wrapped scallops!

Palate: Smoky, salty, gravel, peppery, herbal and medicinal, iodine, spicy but smooth.

Finish: Coals, spicy, lingering flavors from the palate. (1605 views)
Tasted by NateR on 1/28/2020 & rated 88 points: Nice floral and fruity aromas, along with the peat. Flavor is more peat dominated, with salty and earthy notes. (1689 views)
Tasted by colorflavorlocking on 12/23/2019: Sweeter than laphroaig, less iodine character, higher alcohol, a bit richer. Great aroma. Tarry. Great value. (1783 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 8/8/2019 & rated 88 points: A lot of peat in the bouquet and on the palate. Smoke and medicine. Special Whisky. (1564 views)

10/10/2016 - SOTERIOLOGIST favorite WROTE: 89 Points
Tried it again from a particularly good bottle of a friend. Lemon/bergamotte, vanilla and peat, but a tad too sweet, clearly ex-bourbon dominated. In direct comparison actually preferred the Bowmore 12 due to its greater, sherry influenced depth.
12/22/2014 - SOTERIOLOGIST favorite WROTE: 89 Points
On 12/20/2014 I am directly comparing this to the
Laphroaig 10
tasting in turns as I write this.
Glass: not amber but golden (this is a + !), perhaps like a Chardonnay, as befits a 10 y.o. non-colored Whisky which I think it is.
Nose: Light and clear, citrusy and with vanilla, but somewhat shy. The Laphroaig 10 is a bit oakier, drier and has more character, fullness and weight on the nose. But here with the Ardbeg you might almost think you are smelling a grappa.
Palate: noticeable distillery-bite on the tip of the tongue initially, but then the citrus, iodine, and in the length considerable saltiness. The very ash-like peat accompanies the whole trajectory until it finally gives way to the mostly lemony sweetness.
Yes quality, but between the two, it's the Laphroaig 10.
+++++++++++
And more TNs. (627 views)
Tasted by Homer Holland on 7/5/2019: Ardbeg, TEN, 10 Years Old, The Ultimate, Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, NCF, 46%, 1Ltr.
Lot none.
EAN none.
Bought 08/20/2016. (1010 views)
Tasted by tomoem on 11/11/2017 & rated 91 points: Old Chatham Scotch tasting.
The most peet laden tasting of the bunch. Its aroma. its mouthfell and its flavors sing of the peety water. Great unique flavors classic to Islay. (2612 views)
Tasted by Drinker Diary on 6/3/2017 & rated 87 points: Ardbeg TEN

SAQ

Tasted by chatters on 4/1/2017: Standard expression single malts (My place, Kent Street): Subtly smoky seaside, feels rainy and cold, smells like Islay itself, the nose transports me rather impressively (1259 views)
Tasted by SlimShaney on 12/11/2016 & rated 90 points: Beats the Jura Prophecy for a peaty malt, offering a longer finish with more bite. (2544 views)
Tasted by Soteriologist on 10/10/2016 & rated 89 points: Tried it again from a particularly good bottle of a friend. Lemon/bergamotte, vanilla and peat, but a tad too sweet, clearly ex-bourbon dominated. In direct comparison actually preferred the Bowmore 12 due to its greater, sherry influenced depth. (2580 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 7/24/2016: A single malt scotch tasting (Charlie's (In the Wood's of Newbury)): A medium amount of peat with some smoke on the nose. There is some heat on the nose. On the palate, much smoother. It seems to trade less complexity for smoothness which for me is just fine. There is some flavor though. 3.75/5 (1535 views)
Tasted by Hodby on 6/17/2015 & rated 90 points: Pale straw color. Aroma: smoke-y, brine-y, vanilla, gunpowder, bandages, plastics; quite herbaceous and assertively medicinal . On arrival, a sharp and immediate spirit-y whiskey, straightforwardly a well-peated one. Flavor includes: vanilla, burnt wood and barley, gentian, lemon, green bell pepper, shellfish shell and salts. Outstanding stuff, on a chilly evening. (3203 views)
Tasted by stadler on 1/16/2015: Robe claire, dégusté avec quelques gouttes d'eau. Nez de fumé, légèrement tourbé, avec un fruit jaune mûr en arrière plan. Alcool puissant, bouche serrée, tirant vers le pralin, le caramel, plaisant mais de mon avis pas un whisky si savoureux que cela. (1302 views)

Tasted by FandL on 9/19/2014 & rated 91 points: Ardbeg 10 year old is a very high quality single malt that I enjoyed immensely. It actually pairs well with some cheeses, shellfish, and even some desserts. The peat is upfront but the citris notes come thru too. (2903 views)
Tasted by Schönibert on 9/4/2014: Wirklich Asche vom kalten Lagerfeuer. (2612 views)
Tasted by brujazz on 12/14/2013 & rated 91 points: I love all the Ardbegs. This one is the least complex, but is big in flavor. You really want to gulp this down. It also, like all it's siblings, is perfectly balanced. That craftsmanship is what sets Ardbeg apart from all other distilleries in Scotland. (2847 views)
Tasted by larsrog on 7/29/2013 & rated 89 points: Don't usually write notes on whisky, but...
Round but tight.
Elegant and lingering.
Smoke, tar and sea. (2418 views)
Tasted by joraesque on 6/3/2013 & rated 89 points: Sweet nose of smoke, very good alcohol integration on the palate, with sweet barley and medium peat; spice on the long finish. 89-90 (1639 views)
Tasted by silverneedles on 4/25/2013 & rated 87 points: medium low smoke, not quite as pungent as Laphroaig 10yo but overall ended up enjoying it to the last drop... (1949 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 7/3/2012 & rated 91 points: Intense and deep, tight and energetic, peaty and briny, masculine, quintessential Islay; smoky and long. Impressive for a "standard" 10 YO. (2301 views)
Tasted by TheEngineer on 5/7/2012 & rated 87 points: Great daily dram. Enough compelxity to keep it interesting, smooth enough to be not so demanding, peaty enough to remind you where its from and complete enough to satisfy most drinkers. (2940 views)
