Tasted by Romz on 2/12/2024 & rated 92 points: 12022024 - 3rd Day of Lunar New Year celebration at Ed’s house. My bottle tasted blind. Still so fresh for a 29 yrs old Chianti Classico. Dried cranberries, leather, dried tobacco & sundried tomatoes. Lively acidity & really pleasant mouthfeel (110 views)
Tasted by Brian of Mull on 4/1/2020 & rated 93 points: Tart sour cherries with a hint of chocolate and tingling acidity. Quite a bit of age on it. Time to drink. This is my first of 3 bottles I bought a while ago. Very smooth and drinks easily. Better than a lot of Brunellos. (1157 views)
Tasted by pea on 10/19/2012 & rated 91 points: Beautiful nose of cherries, showing little of its age. The mouthfeel is soft and silky but with the textbook sandy tannins. Needs some matching food to be really enjoyed. The last bottle was unfortunately spoiled but this was really great. (5173 views)
Tasted by cmahy on 6/23/2012 & rated 96 points: It's time to drink-up if you have any left. After 17 years of sleep, this Chianti is ready to impress with a fruit forward full-bodied palate. Notes of cherry, blackberries and oak stood-out for me. The finish was smooth and lingered for quite some time. Sad to see this go, but, enjoyed every drop. (4655 views)
Tasted by Yagil on 12/9/2008 & rated 91 points: at Irit (5088 views)
Tasted by DJenkins on 9/16/2008 & rated 92 points: Very nice indeed, but really needs a bit more time (5530 views)
Tasted by wmbar on 11/12/2007 & rated 92 points: Delightful. (3402 views)
Tasted by KellyW on 6/17/2005 & rated 95 points: This wine shatters your expectations for a 10 year old Chianti. The color was nearly opaque purple with absolutely no signs of age. The nose is massive and penetrating with loads of bright red berries and camphor. The red fruit is substantial on the palate with earth and spice. The copious tannins are refined and dusty on the finish. Singularly one of the best Chianti Classico I have tried. At least 5 more years to enjoy. (3244 views)

Castello di Ama

Producer website
Location on Google Map

Castello di Ama’s 65.38 hectares of specialised vineyards, officially enrolled in the Chianti Classico Register, are located at elevations between 390 and 530 metres in calcareous-clay, pebble-rich soils.
Part of the vineyards were planted between 1974 and 1978, at an average density of 3,000 vines per hectare, while newer plantings at a density of 5,300 vines per hectare, starting in 1996 and continuing to the present date, replace the outdated vineyards.
The vines are vertically trained, to the open lyre pruned to the Guyot system, and to spurred cordon.
The varieties, grafted onto rootstock 420, are 80% Sangiovese and 20% Malvasia Nera, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
