Tasted by burgboy on 1/9/2013 & rated 86 points: Pulled this one too late. Still drinkable but on the downhill slide. (2619 views)
Tasted by VinoMax on 8/21/2010 & rated 85 points: C- Light straw N- Medicinal, some citrus and floral notes T- Light-bodied, cotton candy and a slightly off putting flavor that was not easily identified though had herbal and floral characteristics. Very different from previous offerings from Tablas Creek. (3724 views)
Tasted by VoteferPedro on 7/2/2010: pale yellow color. nose has an exotic iodine-like spice, so i agree with the saffron observed by others. palate matches nose, so it is a bit odd. i cant say it is easy but it seems solid and 'interesting.' i tried to decide whether this is a flaw like VA but it is not a band-aid smell. it also seems different from other vermentinos i have had...maybe a flaw maybe not. i would not want to drink more than a glass at atime and i am not looking forward to another tomorrow...mid 80s if not flawed (3892 views)
Tasted by ShirazGuy on 7/2/2010 & rated 60 points: Too old - tasted like toilet water (3934 views)
Tasted by tward on 4/6/2010 & rated 90 points: Really liked this one. I vaguely remember not really caring for it at a tasting a year ago or so. Now it's really shining. Difficult to describe as it's got elements of richness and high tones at the same time on both the nose and taste. Both floral and somehow baked (in a good way) on the nose. an interesting combination of mouth feel both lush and showing hardness and also acid. A long finish of green apple lingering. (3955 views)
Tasted by subir on 3/3/2010 & rated 88 points: Lightest straw color. Honey, wildflowers on the nose. Dry, with a very round tartness in the mouth, more wildflowers and some citrus fruit. (1868 views)
Tasted by earitt on 11/16/2009: I would drink this again, but not with Asian food (1933 views)
Tasted by winekitchen on 8/10/2009 & rated 89 points: My favorite of the current Tablas white releases. Bright acidity, perfect summer wine. (2387 views)
Tasted by charliesea on 7/5/2009 & rated 89 points: I enjoyed this wine, especially on the second day when it became slightly richer. The nose resembled pear notes, but without the sweetness that I associate with ripe bartletts. The palate could be characterized by the image of apples on steroids, and again, without the sweetness. The big, tart profile stood up to feta cheese on crispy French bread, with garlic brined olives on the side.
While there is something of an oily or petroleum note on the midpalate, the powerful tartness reigned.
I did not get the vinyl note others have mentioned. (2159 views)
Tasted by vanpe003 on 7/3/2009 & rated 87 points: The "garden hose" descriptor is fair enough, for both the nose and the palate, but I rather like it. However, and this isn't a slam, the strength of this wine is as a cooking wine. The flavors that many reviewers hate turn into a great spice melange when reduced. G's pasta with pork belly fat and bacon had a very attractive spice that I couldn't place. Nope, not the rosemary, not the chives. "Well, maybe it was the wine" she said. Sure enough. An absolutely intoxicating addition to the "recipe". (2188 views)
Tasted by RogerO on 6/21/2009 & rated 80 points: I have to agree with the garden hose analogy. (2491 views)
Tasted by jk@kttlaw.com on 6/20/2009 & rated 90 points: Much fuller than previous TC Vermentino, but with all the crisp, acid/citrus you would expect. Spicey--mabye licorice-- and definitely some apple. perfect with oysters and other shell fish of just for cooling off in the summer. (2622 views)
Tasted by E on 6/19/2009: Garden hose is a correct id of the nose...unpleasant (2487 views)
Tasted by dfeiner on 6/16/2009: Couldn't drink it. And we've loved this wine in the past. Here's hoping for 08 (2297 views)
Tasted by chiliman96 on 5/26/2009 & rated 87 points: forward floral nose; vanilla honey, citrus, slight medicinal finish; refreshing; light to medium light body; (2367 views)
Tasted by MBrown on 3/8/2009 & rated 88 points: Limes and rocks. Nice bottle of wine, especially when drinking at the beach on a sunny day w/ friends. Right bottle for right time. Would buy again. (2444 views)
Tasted by BHull on 3/4/2009 & rated 69 points: not quite sure what is wrong with this wine, by far the worst I have had from TC, an off nose that is not readily identifiable but throws even the palate off, agree with many of the previous notes (2602 views)
Tasted by Tejano on 2/3/2009: Mmmm...interesting wine. Very light color and a light nose showing some citrus and minerals. The palate was another story. I enjoyed the previous offerings, but this vintage is different, and I am being kind by not elaborating...Tablas does so many things right...and this will not change my fondness for them. (2518 views)
Tasted by catbar on 1/13/2009: Really did not enjoy this one which was surprising as I love most of what Tablas Creek produces. Found it to be pretty undrinkable and disappointing. (2679 views)
Tasted by dubdub on 11/17/2008: Awful (2592 views)
Tasted by xwine on 11/10/2008 flawed bottle: A number of people have noted that this wine has an odd character -- they were being kind. Reeks of new car vinyl. As I understand it this is a phenolic problem. Apparently some varietals (such as sylvaner -- is vermentino another?) tend to show this character, and some people actually like it. I can't attest to that, but I do know that I find this wine foul and undrinkable -- as far as I'm concerned it's flawed and commercially unacceptable. The palate is somewhat reminiscent of Lillet, but in a horrible sort of way. I can't believe Tablas Creek released this stuff. (2500 views)
Tasted by VegasTony on 10/31/2008 & rated 82 points: In '05 and '06, Tablas Creek's Vermentino was the best of their less expensive range of white wines, but this '07 is quite disappointing. The fruit frankly played second fiddle to the main, odd flavor (as others also noticed.) I found it hard to describe. A papery flavor was quite noticeable, and the alcohol was a little too high as well - though not as ridiculously out of balance as in some of their other white wines. Avoid. (2595 views)
Tasted by monzell on 10/29/2008 & rated 84 points: Pleasant lime peel character occasionally. However, an odd nose and taste predominated. (2930 views)
Tasted by drdebs on 10/27/2008 & rated 87 points: Shy aromas of stone, lemon, and apple. Juicy pear and apple flavors, with kaffir lime and white ginger would be great with shellfish and fish. (2204 views)
Tasted by DenisLee on 10/26/2008: This was an odd one for me. I don't know anything about Vermentino. There was a strong flavor that I couldn't identify. I asked my wife to help me, and at first she said,
"Garden hose." That wasn't quite it. Then she came back with, "Saffron". That was exactly it. This wine has a strong flavor of saffron. Too much so for me. (2381 views)

Tablas Creek

Producer website
Tablas Creek Vineyard, founded by the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel and Robert Haas of Vineyard Brands, is dedicated to growing grape varieties traditional to France's Rhone Valley. The partners chose hilly western Paso Robles for its limestone soils, rugged terrain, and ocean influence. All Tablas Creek wines are estate grown using environmentally sustainable practices.

2007 Tablas Creek Vermentino

WINE LABEL: Vermentino is traditional arond the Mediterranean; in the Rhone Valley, it is typically known as Rolle. The 2007 Vermentino has a clean mineral nose of lime and pear, with no influence of oak. It shows flavors of green apple and ime, with refreshing acidity and a lingering finish.

WINEMAKER PRODUCTION NOTES: Vermentino is best known in Corsica, Sardinia, and northern Italy, but also found in the Rhone Valley. cotes de Provence and Languedoc under the name "Rolle." Our 2007 edition shows the noteworthy intensity of this low-yield vintage. The grapes were picked in one day September 12th at 22.4deg Brix and a 3.29 pH. The wine was vinified in stainless steel, and we stopped malolactic fermentation to emphasize the varietal's brightness and freshness. It was bottled in screwcap in April 2008.

WINEMAKER TASTING NOTES: An explosive nose of citrus leaf, cantaloupe, crushed rocks and lilies is followed by flavors of underripe pear, lime and mint, refreshing acidity and a classic Vermentino freshness on the finish. It maks a delightful summer wine and is excellent with grilled vegetables, fresh seafood and dishes of fresh basil and tomato. Drink it in the next year or so. Pre-relese press: Robert Parker 90 points (6/08)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
