| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.6 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 12 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by silton on 9/11/2021: Classics and Curiosities: My WOTD because of the beguiling tertiary aromatics. Nicely mature but in no danger of fading anytime soon, the fruit wasn't quite as deep and expressive as the only comparable bottle in my tasting experience, being a Produttori 96 Rabaja. Tried again in the evening and it had gotten more tannic and cinched. (1035 views) | | Tasted by jerhardt on 8/25/2019 & rated 88 points: Fine, though shows a bit too much in the direction of modern style and ripe vintage for my preference. In a fine drinking spot, though not at risk of falling apart and should have lots of life ahead. (1809 views) | | Tasted by rraaffaa on 7/21/2019 & rated 89 points: Past peak, still good amount of fruit but somewhat unbalanced (1786 views) | | Tasted by up4wine on 12/19/2016 & rated 93 points: Don't drink this wine alone; it needs food. But OH what a wine when paired with a well spiced, grilled meat with a little fat on the edge. Then the wine blasts off with tart fruit that sings with the meal. Here is where the remaining acid and tannin really support the combination of food and wine. By itself, it is still 91+ or so, with great anise on the nose and clean, ripe fruit. But, as I have already stated, it is made to enjoy with a good meal. (3058 views) | | Tasted by Didman on 9/13/2012 & rated 92 points: Two more bottles consumed. Truely a delightful Barbaresco. Both bottles still with lots of life left. Probably at peak about now though, so why wait. (4933 views) | | Tasted by Didman on 1/24/2012 & rated 92 points: A delightful wine. Soft and rich and mature. (4572 views) | | Tasted by Jossik on 8/2/2011 & rated 83 points: cera, erbe, balsamico, bocca acida in punta, poi si ferma all'improvviso. Non č un vino cattivo ma non ha niente a che fare con il barbaresco (3991 views) | | Tasted by Eric on 5/5/2010 & rated 90 points: Quite a pungent nose, floral with the obligatory notes of tar. Supple palate, round, still with some tannin but clearly quite approachable. This bottle was very nice, but a bottle I had last summer blew my mind. (4833 views) | | Tasted by CAS on 2/24/2007 & rated 92 points: Medium ruby with hints of ochre at the rim. Powerful nose of roses, tobacco, marzipan, hints of tar and cherry. Decanted for 5 hours and the palate is showing very well with great tannins which work well with hints of mocha, blackcurrants and some minerals/earthiness. Excelent wine with years ahead of it - I might be buying some more of this! (2800 views) | | Tasted by 97mjr on 2/15/2007: Definitately a 97. More international style. Big, thick raisiny burnt fruit, but approachable even after 12 hours. Not my favorite of the night (3231 views) | | Tasted by Siggy on 1/11/2007 & rated 94 points: This is the third time I've tasted this delicious, modern-styled Barbaresco. Deep maroon color, with a touch of amber at the rim. Fragrant, deep, perfumed nose of black and red fruits, with layers of elegant flavor that cascade on the palate. Notes of chocolate, smoke and forest floor to go with the concentrated, juicy, slightly sweet fruit. Gorgeous balance; long finish. Drinking really well now. (3518 views) | | Tasted by Siggy on 8/15/2006 & rated 93 points: This was a seriously tasty Barbaresco. Deep crimson to the rim; rich black fruits, smoke, dark chocolate, and earthy notes on the palate. Bright acidity; excellent balance and concentration; long finish with still-grippy tannins. Lots of sediment in the bottle. Outstanding stuff. Drinking very well now. (3446 views) |

U.S. Importer (*possibly* some Addt'l Info?)NebbioloNebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.
Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.
"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.
Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
