Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.9 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 661 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by RED AND BLACK on 3/23/2024 & rated 94 points: Had this with the 2004 GA. Right now the 2002 is a better wine. A bit more elegant and with better notes of the chardonnay mix (1107 views)
Tasted by StiGGe on 3/22/2024 & rated 88 points: Taste of applecake, gunpowder, nutty, toasty, much lemon taste and acid. I think this vintage need plenty of more years to grow and be more mature. The acid is to strong. (1084 views)
Tasted by LWI on 3/21/2024 & rated 94 points: Mektig vin, brødbakst, honning, men med godt grep. Vinøs. (1234 views)
Tasted by LB88 on 3/9/2024 & rated 93 points: Beautifully mature. (1290 views)
Tasted by sdr on 2/24/2024 & rated 92 points: Meaty, broad and muscular; classic Bollinger. Very mature, hints of honeysuckle and caramel. But enough liveliness and walnuts fruit to render it tasty enough. Some tiny bubbles. But at EOL, drink up. (1393 views)
Tasted by jviz on 2/10/2024 & rated 93 points: This bottle was ok, but outshined by the 02 Tattinger CdC poured before it. Good complexity but felt a little tired in comparison. I loved it on release and wonder a little about bottle variation here. Will keep in mind (1358 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 1/17/2024 & rated 93 points: Disgorged July 2011. On fine form, remarkably fresh and youthful for a bottle with more than 12 years of post-disgorgement ageing, lots of minerally energy, and only a hint of tertiary evolution. In a way, this feels quite backward at the moment - it seems to be in a quiet phase, it will last for a very long time, and it will develop its real complexity over the coming decades. I have one bottle left, which I will keep for another ten years at least. (2224 views)
Tasted by Tuskeny Raider on 1/1/2024 & rated 95 points: little bubbles and the nose was exceptional. Apples and baked bread. The complexity has died down a little but still a lot going on here. Drinking window is now. (1212 views)
Tasted by robertgf on 1/1/2024 & rated 93 points: New Year 1/1/24 : Lovely sparkler. A little surprised with the lack of bubbles rising in the stem as galewski noted, yet wine is not flat in the mouth. A fairly rich champagne with slight yeasty nose. Fine way to start a tastimg. (1251 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 1/1/2024 & rated 95 points: 2023 New Years Eve: This is getting close qualitatively to my memory of the 1996 Grande Annee, and the best bottle of this champagne so far. There were surprisingly few bubbles, although there was an effervescence to the palate. Rich while also harmonious and vibrant. Apple and pear with baked bread. (1309 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 12/31/2023 & rated 95 points: New Years Eve (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Light medium gold color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes plus. This had a lovely maturuty to it, and while it was substantially lacking in bubbles there was a harmonious quality and no lack of Champagne character. The nose brings apples and chalky mineral notes, while the palate offers chalk, stone, white apples, lemon oil, creme de caramel, and a light oxidative note while remaining remarkably fresh and engaging. This was still bright, though when next to the '06 CdC you surely recognize the age difference. 94+ to 95pts. (1491 views)
Tasted by MN Wine Junkie on 12/31/2023 & rated 95 points: 2023 New Years Eve Celebration! (Kevin's House): What a nice Champagne! Great start to a fantastic line up for NYE!

Wine shows plenty of brioche and brine on the nose, with whiffs of lemon peel and gunflint. On the palate, the wine shows lots of tart apple and pear, with plenty of oyster, and limestone and hints of yeast and oak, especially on the finish.

An excellent Champagne that seduces you into another sip, and before you know it....it's gone! Solid 95 for me, and certainly on par, if not slightly better than the 06 Comte that followed it. (1402 views)
Tasted by Biggsy on 12/25/2023 & rated 95 points: This was lovely. Biscuity aromas with a touch of citrus. Still very bright with a lively mousse. Rich with real depth of flavour, honeyed, toasty brioche flavours fill the palate. Long and luxurious. (1135 views)
Tasted by Tartiflette on 12/1/2023 & rated 92 points: This particular bottle was quite evolved and oxidative. This happens "early" for Bollinger but I don’t mind. Still a great drink with wonderful things happening. (1429 views)
Tasted by grub94 on 9/29/2023 & rated 92 points: Similar to drab note on 9/23/23. This bottle had green apple, not red. Moderate acidity. medium finish. (1631 views)
Tasted by drjb on 9/15/2023 & rated 95 points: This bottle of Grand Annee opened beautifully fresh and light coloured with a rich nose of red apple, wild strawberries, cherry nougat, brioche and nuts. The palate shows fruit flavours that cascade over the tongue and a followed by a grippy austerity of structure and a long line of fine acidity and matiere on the finish. Terrific ! (1768 views)
Tasted by canan on 7/17/2023: Bruised red apples and a wonderful acidity! Needs a bit of time to obtains its balance but it certainly is there. Lovely touch of vanilla but still maintains a dry expression. Lovely wine and really starting to peak right now. (2184 views)
Tasted by culater on 7/10/2023: With toast skagen. Did not read my previous notes on food match….bummer.
92+ with the food. But I expect it to rate higher alone or with a good match. NR this one (2111 views)
Tasted by godx on 6/30/2023: Ready to drink hard to see this getting better but should hold. (1855 views)
Tasted by tanduybui on 6/18/2023 & rated 92 points: Approaching its drinking window now, I would however leave it alone for another 3 years to allow the searing acidity to settle down then it would be a truly sensational wine.

As is, fine bead and the colour is beginning to turn. Lovely nose of brioche, apple and hazelnut. Very racy body at the moment that needs to slow down but beginning to balance out with the lovely fruits. Long earthy and mineral finish.

Drink from 2025 to 10+ years. (1881 views)
Tasted by RED AND BLACK on 6/17/2023 & rated 94 points: This is again a perfect grand marques champagne and the vintage at 20+ years is really giving it an extra bit in quality (1675 views)
Tasted by gcblyth83 on 6/16/2023 & rated 92 points: Needed some time to open up, very light at first, little acidity, quite subtle fruit. Paring with Parmesan encrusted sea bass brought out some wonderful tertiary flavours. (1529 views)
Tasted by Tartiflette on 6/13/2023 & rated 94 points: Starting its drinking window now. The strong acidity still prevails but has strong fruit to back it up. Pineapple, baked apple, citrus and brioche, hazelnut and chalk. A wonderful wine that always delivers but in 2002 it’s just near perfect. Looking forward to full maturity. (55€ when it came out 🤔 ) (1712 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 5/6/2023 & rated 94 points: Mid to full straw. Beautifully fresh. Nicely weighty but surprisingly elegant. This has fulfilled its early promise and evolved positively over the last decade or so. Vibrant, satisfying, nuanced and refreshing. Absolutely spot-on for the coronation. ****1/2 (2022 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 5/5/2023 & rated 92 points: Very enjoyable with hazelnut, breadcrumb and yellow fruit. Drinking well. (1978 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
