Tasted by PJT 1986 on 2/11/2017 & rated 93 points: I am really confused by the drinking window some users have applied to much younger vintages. I was offered 72 bottles of this wine on a 2001 vintage, which had been stored in one cellar since release. Being slightly sceptical, and bearing in mind that I hadn't previously tasted this wine, I was therefore led to believe it may well be over the hill. I was half expecting a waxy, oxidised wine that would be 'interesting' to taste - but nothing else! Thankfully, I was wrong. Whether it be pristine cellaring, or a lucky bottle, on this occasion Zind 2001 was full of energy and life. The colour was vibrant and by no means murky or showing any signs of oxidation. The nose, mineral focused, with a hint of baked apple and cream. The palate, albeit fairly simplistic in the complexity department, offered lovely rich stone fruit tapered by perfectly weighted acidity. Leaving the best until last, the finish - This was stubborn and relentless, possessing intensity and tremendous length. This wine ranks as one of the most pleasant surprises my memory can recall. At £10 a bottle you expect a certain level of satisfaction, this wine went far beyond my expectations. (1267 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 12/17/2011 & rated 89 points: Friday Night Blind Tasting (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): Dark golden colored. Nose shows explosive honey, pistachio nut, and lychee. The palate is fresh with plump fruit, and high acid. There's some sweetness that reminds me of riesling, but an olive oil flavor that makes me think of some sort of strange Italian white wine. I guessed it as an Alsace riesling. I think this does have some riesling in it, but I was right about my notion that there was just something Alsatian about this wine. (4128 views)

Tasted by Tim Heaton on 5/9/2009: An interesting blend that works for the most part. The nose is rather complex, but the palate is missing that complexity and doesn't really achieve any vivid detail. True to Zind's efforts, this was no less a solid food wine. I think I'd have gone with a little less Chard in the blend. Drink thru 2011. At $15 for a 375ml, I'm not complaining. (4068 views)
Tasted by kenh on 11/23/2006 & rated 89 points: This wine has become a traditional part of Thanksgiving around here - and as always it fails to disappoint. Clean crisp fruit, delightful nose, and long citrusy finish. The wine is straw colored and slightly sweet. It never fails to be a favorite among neophytes to wine, and a pleasure to those with more tasting experience. Wonderful melon, white grape, and kiwi fruit flavors. Excellent. (4516 views)
Tasted by Ombibulous on 11/14/2006 & rated 85 points: 50% Auxerrois, 35% Chardonnay, and 15% Pinot Blanc, alc 13% by volume. Per label, this is a "vin de table," i.e., not an AOC. Delicious wine. Very fruity, crisp, with apple and candy flavours. I would gladly buy this wine again. We drank it with a meal of Basmati rice, chicken and brown sauce. (3836 views)
Tasted by kenh on 6/18/2006 & rated 93 points: Casual supper of veggie burgers and sundry cheeses. Opened this with the cheeses and kept drinking through supper. Complex white fruits, excellent minerally nose, and stainless steel/slate on the nose and back palate. Good! (2284 views)
Tasted by kenh on 6/10/2006 & rated 93 points: Served with crab and crawfish tart with remoulade a la'Ken. Better match than the Chateuneuf blanc. This was complex, fruity, elegant and in aftertaste, minerally.

This continues to be a go to white. Only slightly sweet, it seems to holf up well with most things. (2259 views)
Tasted by swyang on 12/18/2005 & rated 90 points: excellent with sashimi! It has the right amount of fresh acidity/ fruit balance. A very pure and cristaline after taste, with a hint of grapefruit peel. We had with deep fried shrimp and oysters as well and oh boy that was just so enjoyable! I've only 1 bottle left, will have to seek for others! (2635 views)
Tasted by swyang on 4/6/2005: Beautiful wine. Apple, pear, mineral flavor. Smooth texture and very fresh indeed. Much better than last year. 90 points. (2808 views)
Tasted by Jim on 7/4/2004: very nice picnic wine. Cirtus armoas, with a clean crisp flavor. (3085 views)
Tasted by JeffGMorris on 6/14/2004 & rated 88 points: Tasted at Biodynamic growers tasting NYC. Better and more open than when I last tasted this about a year ago. A little yeasty smelling. The Chardonnay comes through in the blend. Zesty acidity and a long finish. (2596 views)
Tasted by chbeaumont on 5/8/2004: Distinctly yellow; floral, muscat, fruit salad; dry, crisp, med bodied, loads of character. Weighty finish 15> (1615 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 3/4/2004: Dad's 55th Birthday Redux at The French Room: This was a pleasant starter. Just a little bit leaning toward the sweet side with round tropical fruit intersected with guava and sweet lime. Pretty good. (1411 views)

Zind-Humbrecht

Producer website
Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is one of the stars of the Alsace, in the northeastern corner of France. Fought over for decades by Germany and France, the region, according to Robert M. Parker Jr., “is perhaps the most underrated and underutilized source of great white wines in the world.” Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959 by Leonard Humbrecht and Genevieve Zind. Their son Olivier is now instrumental in running the 99-acre estate, which the family still owns. Like many Alsatian producers, Zind-Humbrecht makes white wines in varying degrees of sweetness, from dessert whites to very dry wines. The vineyards are planted to 30% Riesling, 30% Gewurztraminer, 29% Pinot Gris, and smaller amounts of Pinot Noir, Muscat, Chardonnay, Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc. Up to 18,000 cases are produced annually. Many are Grand Crus and single vineyard bottlings.
