Community Tasting Notes (average 88.6 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 7 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Herschel Krustofski on 3/15/2014 & rated 88 points: Drink now. This isn't improving any more and slightly lost some brightness compared with the previous bottle last year. 87-88
Nevertheless, it does benefit from breathing 30-40 min in the glass and warming up a bit.
Lost some of the charm on the second day. (1731 views)
Tasted by TannicBeast on 11/25/2013 & rated 89 points: Gold, medium intensity. The nose is clean, with citrus and tropical fruit aromas. The palate is slightly off dry, with very pleasant flavors of bitter orange marmalade and Key lime pie. The pronounced (-) acidity keeps the fruit in check. The alcohol is medium at 13%. The mouthfeel is smooth and there is a nice dry minerality to the medium (+) long finish. This wine is nicely balanced, medium bodied, with a medium (+) flavor intensity. Drink now, i don't think it is going to improve with further ageing, although it is by no means past its prime. A fun wine. (1811 views)
Tasted by Will Devize on 8/30/2013: Broad and creamy with a savoury, spicy layer on the finish. Seems to be delineated according to its blend of 70% Chardonnay/30% Auxerrois. Good stuff and worthwhile at £12. (2025 views)
Tasted by mark_m_owen on 7/2/2013 & rated 88 points: Good stuff. A bit sweet fruit but as it opened up a bit of richness gave it a more meaty palate. Crisp finish, surprisingly, thankfully not cloying. (1870 views)
Tasted by Herschel Krustofski on 3/28/2013 & rated 89 points: Two-thirds Chardonnay, one-third Auxerrois.
Served at 7C, allowed to breath and warm up a bit; sampled over an hour or so. Impressive nose, starts off perfumed, fruity (melons, nectarines, citrus) after 40-60 minutes, somewhat vegetal with guava notes. Settles down after an hour. Cirtusy palate; 25 second finish. When the glass is finally empty after 80 min what remains is a faint floral/honey smell. I think its at its best after an hour, but don't miss the interesting evolution. Good value. Interesting, but I wouldn't get a whole case. It's definitely ready now, but I would imagine it will last another year. (2260 views)

Zind-Humbrecht

Producer website
Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is one of the stars of the Alsace, in the northeastern corner of France. Fought over for decades by Germany and France, the region, according to Robert M. Parker Jr., “is perhaps the most underrated and underutilized source of great white wines in the world.” Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959 by Leonard Humbrecht and Genevieve Zind. Their son Olivier is now instrumental in running the 99-acre estate, which the family still owns. Like many Alsatian producers, Zind-Humbrecht makes white wines in varying degrees of sweetness, from dessert whites to very dry wines. The vineyards are planted to 30% Riesling, 30% Gewurztraminer, 29% Pinot Gris, and smaller amounts of Pinot Noir, Muscat, Chardonnay, Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc. Up to 18,000 cases are produced annually. Many are Grand Crus and single vineyard bottlings.
