Community Tasting Notes (average 90.9 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 197 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by rnellans on 5/5/2021 & rated 92 points: Surprisingly fresh. Sound, and quite lovely to drink. (1974 views)
Tasted by Montecalvo on 4/11/2020 flawed bottle: one bottle was oxidized and the other was drinking really well. Surprised that one of them was still in fine shape given it was from a 375 ml (2346 views)
Tasted by BLSausTX on 4/21/2019 & rated 93 points: NOSE: M(+) peach skin, salty ocean air, Provençal herbs, dried spiced orange peel, hint of white rose. PALATE: M(+) body, silky on entry, dried apricot, hint dried strawberry, M+ acidity still quite fresh for a 7 year old rosé, M alc (13.5% ABV but is starting to taste a bit hotter), M+ finish, M+ cplx; OVERALL: Tempier is the pinnacle of Bandol rosé (some would say rosé overall). Delightfully fun to taste a bottle that we aged sourced from the winery in 2013 - true to say that Bandol rosé ages gracefully! (2810 views)
Tasted by Baron Slick on 4/1/2018 & rated 92 points: It's uncanny how Tempier's Bandol Rose ages better than some reds. This is on to its secondary stage but remains expressive and pure, and declares its sense of place and longevity via its depth, structure, and complexity. Lovely notes of orange Creamsicle, peaches, strawberries, herbs, and grass are elegant, minerally, and persistent. Comes across as a beautiful Rose that is always in control. 92+ (3557 views)
Tasted by Buick455 on 8/26/2017 & rated 91 points: From magnum. Drank over 2 days. Night in the fridge. Color is more dark salmon/apricot than when it is young. The initial crisp and freshness is gone and instead it is more savory notes. Nice and long finish. (4177 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 5/29/2017: -translucent nearly irridescent copper
-mild reduction herbal ripe melon mild oxidative notes
-med/med- acidity, med- weight savory notes without much discernible fruit, sappy residue sticks around on the moderately long finish
-this has evolved over the years interestingly the dominant herbal streak has been omnipresent even as the fruit has faded, still drinking well as it is more interesting if less refreshing than its youth (3950 views)
Tasted by RichEB1 on 4/16/2017 & rated 91 points: From a magnum that I had coravin'd last summer that had half of the bottle left. Kept this until now to see what would happen (both in regards to having used my coravin on it a year ago and aging the rose in general). Wow, this wine is shockingly good. Pale salmon/orange in color, with nice strawberry and grass notes on the nose. On the palate, this is MUCH fresher than I would have expected. Not as crisp as a new vintage, but it's held up really, really well with strawberries, herbs, and a slight hint of watermelon. The finish is long and definitely has a more tart and slightly bitter (in a good way) aspect to it due to the age. Damn impressive and very enjoyable.

So do I like it 'better' than a recent vintage Tempier? I'm not sure about that and I don't think it's even really fair to compare the two.....but this has aged incredibly well for a rose, and is going down very, very easily :)

And on a side note....hi-five to my coravin for doing its job. I typically use it for short term preservation, but this is a solid longer-term success story. (3727 views)
Tasted by jsherdc on 11/16/2016 & rated 91 points: Salmon color. Crisp with light fruit that deepens with air. Medium-long finish. (4081 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 10/12/2016: Slight sign of age on rim. Showing a touch of savory with an admixture of seashells and delicate red/blue floral. Good tension still, this actually improved over the 60 minutes it was open (after an hour in decanter). Drink now or in the next few years. recommended

Served non-blind. (3881 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 9/11/2016 & rated 90 points: Salmon color. Strawberry cream nose. Zippy acidity with rinsed fruit. The additional year in the bottle as benefitted this wine. Refreshing and delicious. (90) (3078 views)
Tasted by DK Amateur on 8/27/2016: The pale salmon colour has by now a golden tinge. The nose was not quite present, but the structure is still solidly pleasant. I think I preferred it a bit younger. -- Now, on the second day, it is wonderful again, even showing more fruit. (2532 views)
Tasted by jlhkiss on 7/19/2016 & rated 92 points: Nice, mature, and probably at or just past peak. Last bottle of this '12 Tempier Rose from a case and this has been a pure enjoyment. Pairs with a variety of foods, tonight it was mild curry. (2595 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 7/10/2016: Similar to last bottle (2154 views)
Tasted by jlhkiss on 6/19/2016 & rated 92 points: Paired wonderfully with roasted pork loin on Father's Day. (2112 views)
Tasted by Lord Rodney on 6/6/2016 & rated 90 points: just great with age (2352 views)
Tasted by jlhkiss on 5/30/2016 & rated 92 points: Wonderful, mature rose drinking in a lovely window. Still some acidity and tannins on the finish, but it's really softened out since last summer. Strawberries and cream, lemon curd, wild herbs, and some peach. Drank with neighbors before dinner on the back deck on Memorial Day. (2099 views)
Tasted by jeff nowak on 5/10/2016 & rated 94 points: Another wine we purchase in multiple cases every year. We consider it the gold standard of Rose. You can age this very complex example, but we rarely are able to stop slurping every new vintage down so quickly as to negate its potential. How a couple of bottles of 2012 survived can only be attributed to our cross-country move and subsequent forced off site storage. By law, this must be at least 50% Mourvèdre + Grenache, cinsault, and carignan. Strawberry, Rosemary, citrus. I could gush on this forever. A superb balance of acid and fruit. Yes, it's a powerful example of the genre. I love it, in case you haven't guessed. Highly recommended. (2699 views)
Tasted by portman63 on 4/18/2016 & rated 91 points: Still with a great salmon color and nice mouthfeel. Obviously late in its life and only because I found a missing bottle. However, a good find in that the still vivid acidity offsets the building secondary mineral and bit of oxygen in the mid-palate. But the two aspects played well against some slow-cooked roasted pork. Drink now for sure though and buy the new vintages for summer. (2378 views)
Tasted by Lord Rodney on 11/18/2015 & rated 90 points: Still the finest rosé! This bottle was perhaps not as good as the last though - or is it because it's not summer anymore??? ;-) (3284 views)
Tasted by Nicholas81 on 11/16/2015 & rated 92 points: Extremely lovely rose. The best i've tried. Opened with a very creamy and thick nose of strawberries and spices. The palate was equally good with lush, velvety mouthfeel, very tasty strawberries and citrus zest with spices and minerals. The finish was rather full and satisfying. The wine was very balanced and in total harmony throughout from the nose to the finish. (3178 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 10/21/2015: Losing some freshness and the herbal component as gaining complexity. Continues to improve with age. (2962 views)
Tasted by rikipedia on 10/5/2015 & rated 90 points: Terroir-istes International - France, Mediterranean Coast (Groot Constantia): (Tasted Blind): Pale onion skin colour with a delicate and floral nose shows whiffs of red cherry, pepper, fresh spring flowers, and garrigue.
A fresh, the palate is delicate with a thread of lingering acidity and flavours of just-ripe red cherry, raspberry, peach melba, wet stones and mineral flavours. There is good palate length and warming alcohol, and the wine closes with pink watermelon flesh, raw meat, wild Provencal herbs and white pepper—dried peach skin texture on the finish. (295 views)
Tasted by jlhkiss on 8/25/2015 & rated 92 points: Lovely with salmon. (2994 views)
Tasted by Lord Rodney on 8/20/2015 & rated 92 points: Really stunning rosé. Can age further! (3253 views)
Tasted by Mattshank on 8/8/2015 & rated 91 points: Nose: Spicy strawberries with pronounced minerality. Palate: Lots of spice up front with strawberries, cherries and mineral on the finish. While this is well integrated I prefer the last bottle (notes on 5/22/14) which was one of the best Roses I've ever had. This is still super solid but my last bottle will be drunk up in the next few months. (2294 views)

U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)

Domaine Tempier is located at Le Plan du Castellet. Its vineyards stretch over three different communities- Le Castellet, Le Beausset and La Cadière. The plots of land are thus far apart and require extra work. But the soil of these different areas yield distinctive cuvées -Spéciale, Migoua, Tourtine and Cabassaou - as well as interesting and complex blends for white, rosé and red wines.
Domaine Tempier owns 30 hectares. It produces AOC Bandol exclusively - an average of 68% red, 29% rosé and 3% white wines, approximately 120,000 bottles per year
