| Community Tasting Notes (average 89.2 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 61 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by ogres3 on 8/23/2023 & rated 89 points: In a good way, quite similar to a zin. Probably past its prime, but still decent. (314 views) | | Tasted by Alro on 6/4/2022 & rated 92 points: 100%Hillside grown Carignane, Lytton Springs. 10 years is a good aging time for this but could easily go another couple years. (587 views) | | Tasted by pdadams66 on 7/3/2020 & rated 89 points: Deep dark center, red/purple rim with surprisingly little signs of age. Sweet, blackberries, ripe black plums, shiny milk chocolate, balsamic vinegar, smoke, touch of VA, creamy. Smooth, raspberries, significant acidity, bright cherries, pipe tobacco, a little sappy, good length. Excellent Carignane, drinking well now, but has the acidity to improve over the next 5 years. (1150 views) | | Tasted by Ridgerunner on 7/10/2019 & rated 93 points: These have just been so very nice! (1319 views) | | Tasted by MRichman on 10/18/2018: Fading but still yummy. (1512 views) | | Tasted by Ridgerunner on 8/21/2018 & rated 92 points: This wine just continues to improve (1403 views) | | Tasted by cclay1974 on 1/29/2018: Long finish.smooth, peppery, low silky tannins, fruit forward on the nose. Served with Chipotle chilli crusted fillet mignon and garlic green beans. Peppery notes teamed well with the chipotle char on the steaks. (1687 views) | | Tasted by sbfern on 1/8/2018 & rated 89 points: Dark and rick. Drink drink (1318 views) | | Tasted by moxielady on 3/18/2017 & rated 90 points: A jammy zin (1778 views) | | Tasted by bjschmitt on 11/19/2016 & rated 88 points: Paired with home-made sausage pizza. Crimson/purple, still dark (but not opaque), good color. Nose: blueberry with hint of blackberry underneath. Dry, acid on the front, followed by the fruit. mouth-watering, medium weight. Decent length. Drink now. (1710 views) | | Tasted by Ridgerunner on 10/29/2016 & rated 91 points: Rather like this carignane. (1651 views) | | Tasted by aaronmphoto on 8/21/2016 & rated 90 points: Good drinking wine - had it by itself but would also go well with food. Very drinkable now. Nice fruity flavor - though not too fruity. Glad I have a second bottle! (1636 views) | | Tasted by ogres3 on 8/17/2016 & rated 88 points: Meh Nothing special "Just OK I guess" says the missus (1617 views) | | Tasted by glou.sf on 6/17/2016 & rated 89 points: Spices, dark fruit, leather, and plums on the nose. Fruit forward palate with good acidity and slightly bitter tannins. Medium finish. (1341 views) | | Tasted by yaya on 5/19/2016 & rated 89 points: Bright Black Fruit and still could mature like the 2011 shows. (1072 views) | | Tasted by bjschmitt on 2/28/2016 & rated 90 points: With sautéed been tenderloin, roast potatoes, asparagus. Ruby/garnet, color consistent to the rim, no longer opaque. Nose has nice, appealing dark fruit (blueberry, perhaps black raspberry), quite clean. Dry, medium weight, fruit and acid in balance (mouth watering). Tannins were muted. Paired nicely with the meat. (1321 views) | | Tasted by cdebeau on 2/20/2016 & rated 91 points: Smooth, cherry fruit but not sweet (1186 views) | | Tasted by cdebeau on 2/19/2016 & rated 91 points: Deep dark color & fruit, sophisticated. Exceeded all expectations. (1175 views) | | Tasted by greenblanket on 11/21/2015: Big dark fruit still dominates with some hints or flashes of earth and dried herbs sneaking past. This had all the acidity we needed to cut through the fat in our skirt steak carne asada and the fruit really helped with the heat from the chilies. The odd thing is, that with the high level of acidity this wine presents, tartaric acid is listed as an ingredient. Did Ridge acidulate that heavily? (1674 views) | | Tasted by MRichman on 3/13/2015: Spanish wines with Petaluma tasting group, Pt. 1 (Tessa's): Full, round with very good balance. Very enjoyable and well built, as always. (2461 views) | | Tasted by Italiana on 12/2/2014: Very grapey. Purple/garnet with a little foaminess--very fresh looking. Fruity with good acidity, just not a lot complexity. Worked well with grilled bison strip steak; not so appealing alone. (2111 views) | | Tasted by affordableCollector on 11/24/2014 & rated 89 points: ruby red, purple body, magenta rim, in the color. dark cherry, floral, spice, licorice, cocoa, on the nose. medium acid, medium tannins, on a silky finish. (1834 views) | | Tasted by wabi47 on 11/14/2014 & rated 87 points: medium body; dusty soft red fruit, modest structure, maple wood. (1878 views) | | Tasted by EMTAME on 11/1/2014: One of the lighter bodied wines on the table, out of 6 reds. Blue and black fruits with minimal tannin, but some nice acidic lift on the back end that had me thinking of a garden fresh tomato. I know that sounds weird, as the wine didn't taste anything like a tomato. So be it. (1770 views) | | Tasted by MRichman on 9/29/2014: Great firm dark fruit with cutting acid, tight berry, smoke, coffee and earth. I really love this wine, especially with bright acidic food. Great for the price. Must buy more to have around the house. B (1754 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma CountySonoma Coast |
