Tasted by cincybt on 8/17/2023 & rated 92 points: Delicious. Have cellared well, no signs of age, so don't be in a rush. (315 views)
Tasted by JCMenendez on 8/10/2022 & rated 93 points: Very good. Rich. Needs plenty of time to aerate. This could hold another 5+ years. Structured. (710 views)
Tasted by spectrumphoto on 3/19/2022 & rated 95 points: Wish ibhad more.... really in a nice spot in 2022. Approachable balanced in structure. (802 views)
Tasted by ledocq on 11/18/2021 & rated 91 points: The Cal Cab equivalent of comfort food. (1100 views)
Tasted by dsulser on 6/8/2021 & rated 91 points: Drinking very nicely, no decanting required. (1102 views)
Tasted by spectrumphoto on 5/26/2020 & rated 93 points: 13's overall seem to be in a "thinning" funk at the moment...a bit closed but by end of bottle it was showing nicely.

Gonna wait 18mo before I try another. (1335 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 9/28/2019 & rated 89 points: Nose of bramble, red cherry, slightly under ripe strawberry. Wine is waited more towards fruit though there’s still adequate from palate tannins to give weight and structure.

Upon opening there were faint green notes, but these blew off within 20 to 30 minutes. White pepper, herbs round out the wine. Very pleasant 90 minutes after opening and easy to track on its own.

I don’t envision this improving with age and feel it might be slightly past its peak. Drink up and enjoy (1363 views)
Tasted by ledocq on 8/4/2019 flawed bottle: corked (1550 views)
Tasted by ledocq on 1/13/2019 & rated 92 points: I bought these to put a little age on them. Way to go, past self! Great on day two as well. (1843 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 12/5/2018 & rated 89 points: A touch better than a bottle back in June, yet showing just a little green, which isn’t really my thing. Best with food. For around $50, there are better options out there. (1590 views)
Tasted by vpoms on 10/26/2018 & rated 92 points: Clear, deep purple color. Clean nose of pronounced intensity of eucalyptus, black cherry, black plums, cedar, leather and forest floor. Wine is developing. On the palate it is dry with medium acidity, medium plus tannins, high alcohol, medium plus body, medium plus flavor intensity of of black cherries, liquorice, bitter chocolate and leather. The finish is satisfying and medium. Good quality wine, very good now or can be aged. Great QPR!!! Balanced, good finish, good intensity, but complexity is lacking (1396 views)
Tasted by RockinCabs on 10/23/2018 & rated 91 points: Nose: Blackberry, cherry cola, anise pickles and black pepper. Palate: Massive on entry with Blue and Black fruit, blueberry, cassis, chocolate, bit of a floral note. Very restrained oak compared to other wines in lineup. Great acid balance. Finish: Crushed blackberry, Blueberry, Cracked black pepper and some anise spice.

Great wine. Love the PS blended in with the (as usual) gorgeous cab and merlot from hourglass.

By the glass at Moodys deli. (1442 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 6/13/2018 & rated 88 points: Tasty Napa cab blend, but lighter bodied than anticipated and seemed more so the longer it was open. Enjoy it now vs. cellar. (1638 views)
Tasted by AMC Eagle on 4/5/2018 & rated 92 points: Pnp through a vinturri. Medium purple in appearance. There are black cherries, black berries, and some greenish plums on the nose. There are some good fruits on the palate composed of red and black berries with a slight hint of mocha. Tannins are easy going. Medium bodied with a medium finish. Had it with the ribeye and am not disappointed. (1850 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 3/4/2018 & rated 88 points: Tasty as a stand-alone without food. A little rough but improved w 2-3 hours of air. (1631 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 9/10/2017 & rated 89 points: Decanted, allowed to rest for an hour, followed over 2.5 hours. Had some green notes that were fairly prominent when decanted; while these faded, they remained faint even after 90+ mins. Light berries, this is a fairly watered-down wine that lacks depth and layering; not bad, but not memorable, at least today. (2379 views)
Tasted by rharl on 8/20/2017 & rated 90 points: Again improved after several hours. (2567 views)
Tasted by mikemboutiquewines on 7/25/2017 & rated 93 points: Excellent Price/ value ratio! Drinking nicely now. (2748 views)
Tasted by MAXIMUM SATISFACTION on 11/23/2016 & rated 93 points: Lots of bite (tannic grip and heat). Very extracted but not over the top just clumsy in its youth. Syrupy texture with blueberry extract, sweet vanilla, currants, and tobacco. The petite sirah definately adds to the bite with harsh spice. Opened in bottle for 3 hours but really needs a long decant. Great for under $60. (3466 views)
Tasted by rharl on 8/10/2016 & rated 91 points: Average, uninspiring with unlikely potential a hour into PnP -- was hoping for a diamond in the rough ... then came back and amended my review after last glass about 3 hours later: opened up some to dark berry and tobacco flavors. Will try next bottle in another 6-18 mo. (3907 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 7/31/2016 & rated 89 points: Balance of a previously CV'd bottle. While this has good berry flavors, I'd like to see this wine put on a little more weight and add more depth. Not a bad wine, but it doesn't show as much lush and rich fruit as you find in their flagship merlot and CS. While it is their second label,Quilceda's 2nd label at a much lower price point is a nicer wine. (3119 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 5/25/2016 & rated 92 points: Hourglass New Releases: Deep violet color. It smells of rich black cherries, red and black currants, blueberries, the fruit is dark but bright at the same time, and I also get complex elements of dark chocolate, violets, loamy soil, cedar and ginger. This is full-bodied and rich but the acidity is superb and precise, holding this wine together against the firm tannins and bold texture. Flavors of black cherries, dark currants, plum skins, the fruit is fleshy but maintains a tart edge. A host of non-fruit flavors glide across the palate: loamy soil, charcoal, tobacco, cedar, vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted chestnut, vanilla – the flavors unwind with time in the glass (which this needs, or cellar time). For a “second” wine, are you kidding me? This is superb. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah 20 months in new and seasoned French oak. (3554 views)
Tasted by ageverett on 1/12/2016 & rated 93 points: Popped and poured, which I think was a disservice. Drank over two hours. Last glass was the best. Initially didn't reveal the layers of flavors that are down there . . . those came out after about an hour.

Looking back, pretty consistent with previous experience. I think this is a great candidate to drink now, with an hour or two of air time. Don't really see extended cellar time improving this much. Overall very nice and would buy again. (4121 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 12/9/2015 & rated 92 points: 2013s from Hourglass: Gorgeous violet color. Nose of bright black cherries, black currants, some jammy raspberry notes as well, a complex combination of violets, cocoa powder, dark chocolate shavings, vanilla but also some earthy and tobacco notes. Needs a lot of air to fully express itself, but a lot of nuance in here that will evolve and gain traction over time. Full-bodied with structured tannins that maintain some velvety feel, the acid is moderate enough to keep this friendly and relatively fresh on the palate. Juicy black cherries, black currants mix with notes of raspberry jam. A ton of forward, rich elements of cocoa, ginger snap, vanilla, coffee but I also get tobacco, graphite, loamy soil, pepper and roasted chestnut. Complex and age-worthy but surprisingly accessible young. Just a beautiful wine. $50 ain’t cheap but this over-delivers for that price point. Merlot, Cabernet, Malbec and Petite Sirah. (3076 views)
Tasted by ageverett on 12/4/2015 & rated 93 points: Pop and pour. Drank over a couple of days. Probably enjoyed second glass the best. First glass still needed air, while second one revealed more layers. Lots of red and purple fruit and pretty plush and smooth. Revisiting over the next 48 hours, it fell off a little bit.

Very solid wine with the merlot really showing well. (3010 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
