Tasted by studleytrey on 12/10/2020 & rated 88 points: Was a little concerned based on previous reviews, as this is my first of 4, but thankfully this first one is drinking fine, and even a little youthful in its fruit, though there's really no tannin structure here, so I'm not sure what to say for its longevity.

Anyway, medium ruby, still hinting a bit purplish, with transparency. Smells youthful, grapey, and slightly confectionary, black and blue fruit jam, violet, and graphite minerality. Medium body, acid, and finish, with blue, black, and dark red fruits, and a bit of mineral. New world in style and not terribly complex, but enjoyable enough for the style and certainly not cooked or tired for us tonight. 87-88 (481 views)
Tasted by Stephen.Somm on 5/17/2019 & rated 81 points: 30 minute decant. Medium ruby color. Stewed plums, blackberries, violets, but definitely seems like it's past prime. Too bad, because it was probably really good a couple years ago. (728 views)
Tasted by garetjax_kison on 5/21/2018 & rated 88 points: Popped and poured with dinner. Pleasant nose. Good fruit on the palate although drops off fairly quickly with O2. Enjoyable. Decent QPR. (921 views)
Tasted by JJZ on 2/12/2018 & rated 90 points: Would buy again (987 views)
Tasted by zack.wygant on 3/5/2017 & rated 87 points: Drank on day 2, and a touch grapey...fruit is ok...needs acidity. Decent for what it is (1412 views)
Tasted by thalver on 6/10/2016: Having had a few bottles of this, while young and fruity, the subsequent bottles haven't shown as sweet and grapey as the first. A couple years sideways would probably help this, but it's a fine quaffer now (1926 views)
Tasted by HarveyLarvae on 6/2/2016 & rated 88 points: Jammy, a little anise (1531 views)
Tasted by thalver on 1/8/2016: Opened and decanted. Initially, this tasted almost like a barrel sample, at once structured, young and grapey. It did smooth out after 45 minutes or so. Still, for my taste, way too young. There seems enough underlying structure to merit giving it a couple years before a revisit (1765 views)
Tasted by Sauvyfan on 12/19/2015 & rated 91 points: light in style but beautifully fragrant and fruitful. Wonderful food wine that would work similarly to Pinot noir or Dolcetto pairings. (1709 views)
Tasted by tomherer on 12/4/2015 & rated 85 points: I love Grenache, even when it veers towards ripe and candied, but this is a chore to drink. Flabby plum, candied flowers, and some minerality as it gains air. A sticky, ponderous sweetness overwhelms and doesn't encourage another sip. Will labor through my remaining bottle and move on.  Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 6/12/2015 & rated 92 points: Medium dark ruby color; aromatic, ripe berry, black cherry, blackberry, charcoal, violets, clove nose; tight, tasty, tart berry, clove, tart blackberry, charcoal palate with good balancing acidity; needs 2-3 years; medium-plus finish (53% Grenache, 27% Syrah, 20% Carignane; 14.2% alcohol) 92+ points (595 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 6/9/2015 & rated 90 points: Some Cali Red Samples (My Place - Washington, DC): Light ruby color. Nose of tart red berries, some sweeter, jammier notes, backed up by elements of baking spices, pepper, coffee and toast. Bold approach, some moderate acid, drying tannins of decent strength, alcohol gives it a thicker presence. Tart currants, dark and crunchy cherries and plums. Lots of coffee, toasted nuts, add in some sweet herbal notes, spices, cola and rhubarb. A warm, rich finish. Seems to need a bit of time, as it really opens up with air. 53% Grenache, 27% Syrah and 20% Carignane, aged 18 months in 30% new French oak. (1917 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Central Coast AVA Wikipedia

Santa Ynez Valley

The Santa Ynez Valley AVA is the largest wine sub-region of Santa Barbara County and has the highest concentration of vineyards. The valley runs from east to west, between the Purisima Hills and the San Rafael Mountains in the north, and the Santa Ynez Mountains in the south. Although the valley is open to the Pacific Ocean in the west, the fact that it is relatively narrow means that limited cool air and fog is funnelled in. Low average rainfall and a very long growing season make the region ideal for quality wine production.

The diverse climates of Santa Ynez Valley mean that a wide array of wines is produced. The cool, western part of the AVA is predominantly planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, accompanied by other aromatic white varieties. Botrytis cinerea (noble rot) is able to flourish here, allowing some outstanding dessert wines to be produced in suitable vintages. Further east, the cooling effect of the ocean is lessened as both vineyard elevation and average temperatures increase. This warmer part of Santa Ynez Valley is more suited to fuller-bodied grape varieties, such as Syrah and Merlot.
more ...s expected, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir thrive, while the more inland zones lay claim to Bordeaux varietals and some Rhone blends.
