This vintage, although powerful, is so elegant and perfumed for Montcalmes. Red fruits, floral, mineral and spicy. Soft tannins, leather. Just the perfect balance.

Meaty, floral with strawberry, raspberry and blackberry. Round and suave, velvety. This is the South but at the same time it feels weightless on the palate. Definitely made in a Burgundian style. Il m'a au départ semblé presque désagréable, au nez de prune et assez court, je croyais avoir affaire à une mauvaise bouteille ou tout simplement prématurément évoluée. Après une heure d'aération la magie s'opère. Le vin prend du volume et la texture devient tout simplement magique et au soyeux digne d'un grand vin. L'aromatique se développe sur un profil épicé, avec quelques notes plus évoluées de figue et de fruits séchés. Ça demeure un vin sudiste, avec une certaine chaleur et amertume en finale qui rappelle certains Châteauneuf, je suis d'ailleurs étonné de voir que le taux d'alcool est de "seulement" 13,5%. Dark red colour with a hint of brick red in the rim. Quite intensive and slightly matured nose. It's dense, compact with bright red fruit aromas. Behind all this there are also lower notes like tar. The palate is mid-weight with good acidity and it is in sync with the nose. Powerful, dense but holds its poise nicely. Tannins still dry the gums a bit. Good structure. Une belle attaque en bouche, mais les arômes sont discrets et il a besoin d'air. Mais il sortira de sa coquille, contrairement à la dernière bue en 2009 qui était fermée. C'est encore une fois la texture, gracieuse et aérienne, qui séduit d'abord...Wow, quel magnifique équilibre. Un vin long, complexe, sur le fruit et les épices, savoureux et d'une belle fraicheur. Faute de carafes (elles sont toutes dans les cartons pour cause de déménagement imminent), la bouteille a été épaulée à 14h pour le repas du soir (vers 19h00). Ma cave ne pouvant accueillir des bouteilles debout, c'est au réfrigérateur que la belle a patienté...
J'ai ressorti la bouteille vers 18h30, au regard des températures sur Montpellier, ça a suffit pour faire remonter le vin en température (un peu vite peut-être d'ailleurs...). Il aura été servi un peu frais (vers 14° je pense), pour compenser la canicule.
La robe est très belle, vive et limpide et tire sur une jolie couleur pourpre, violine. C'est très avenant. Aucune trace d'évolution pour le moment.
Au nez, c'est superbe!! Il l'était d'ailleurs dès l'ouverture de la bouteille pourtant en sortie de cave à 12°. Ca sent la Syrah, les épices, le poivre et des notes de garrrigue en arrière plan.
La bouche est à l'avenant, bien que légèrement en retrait de mes souvenirs de dégustations du 2007 au domaine; je pense que les conditions de dégustation de ce soir n'y sont pas étrangères. La bouche est donc tout en finesse, mais non dénuée de puissance aromatique tirant sur la reglisse, le poivre de nouveau. Et tout ça persiste en bouche de longs instants. C'est vraiment très bon.
Voilà, une bien belle bouteille malgré les difficiles conditions de service; qui plus est je ne pense pas avoir été capable de sublimer le vin par un traitement en amont pas forcément adapté. A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine.
