Community Tasting Notes (average 87.8 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 36 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by rexmerlot on 9/2/2014 & rated 89 points: No formal note. Think this past it's prime. Interesting but done. Drink up if you have any left (2854 views)
Tasted by ecola on 2/3/2011 & rated 89 points: Very crisp and clean flavors of white fruit. ($27) (4788 views)
Tasted by CADomer on 7/20/2010 & rated 86 points: Had this at a Rieslings of the world tasting for the Bocca group. Initially showed some nice intensity but with time the nose became muted and the once rich mouth went slightly thin. Part of me thinks that this may just be a sytlistic issue and the wine was more on the subtle and elegant side. But, it was fairly middle of the pack when it came to the other wines on the table.  Tasted by bilgepump100 on 7/10/2010 & rated 90 points: Delicious with Indian food. Complex fruit flavors that I couldn't figure out. (5132 views)
Tasted by grafstrb on 7/4/2010 & rated 90 points: -- popped and poured --
-- tasted non-blind over a couple hours --

NOSE: tropical fruits; apples; pears; hint of petrol; after an hour in the glass a floral lemony note emerged. Very nice.

BODY: tan-golden yellow color; medium-light to medium bodied.

TASTE: not quite dry; very Rheingau-like: tropical, soft white sugar, background minerality; 12.7% alc. not noticeable; longish finish; this was better during hour 2 than hour 1.

B: 50, 5, 12, 16, 7 = 90 (5355 views)
Tasted by dssmith on 4/7/2010 & rated 84 points: A classic Reisling finished in the dry (trocken) style. It is from New York State. It is pleasant to drink. It has no obnoxious overtones. This is a wine I would buy again (3255 views)
Tasted by foodie on 3/8/2010 & rated 90 points: Initial impressions of this wine are of oak, canned fruit salad, pineapple, cotton candy and petrol on the nose, but in fairness this is at a stage when the wine is too cold having just left the refrigerator.

Coming to room temperature, the nose remains mainly the same, but with some floral, catty (Viognier-like) qualities rising. The wine is dry, drier than a typical German Kabinett, and pleasureful but nothing yet fantastic or super-exciting on the palate. An easy drinker, the finish is fairly good, but the whole composition seems a little disjointed and thin. The nose, as it sits in the glass, opens up its floral qualities more; the cotton candy becomes a more purple/pink flower aroma, less candied... perhaps candied Petunia petals. It continues into a perfumed quality that is very appealing.

An interesting effort for East Coast domestic Riesling, I'd be happy to support this production in hopes of long-term improvement. (90-91) (3012 views)
Tasted by Pool Boy on 12/3/2009 & rated 89 points: Honeycrisp apple, a bit of straw and some oil....nice acidity to pull it off and the babyfat sweetness has shriveled a bit leaving a leaner, more athletic wine. Delicious stuff. 89 points. (3216 views)
Tasted by spo on 8/22/2009 & rated 80 points: Lime and mineral, a bit floral, perfumey and bitter. I could have mistaken this for a Gewurztraminer. (2912 views)
Tasted by F8inU on 8/8/2009: Disapointing considering the price and the other notes. Much too sweet to call it dry! Sweetness did not taste natural. Good acidity, some honey in the nose. (2910 views)
Tasted by ews3 on 8/2/2009 & rated 88 points: nice, dry, crisp riesling. mineral, green apple, and citrus. fruit is bright on this. (2978 views)
Tasted by ColinR on 7/26/2009 & rated 90 points: Straw yellow; lemons, limes, apples, honeysuckle, minerals; dry, lemon-lime, peachy, light-medium body, good balance, tangy acidity, lingering minerally finish.
Slight residual sugar balanced with slatey minerality and refreshing acidity. Wiemer's reislings are so Mosel-like. Good weight to go with roast chicken. (2969 views)
Tasted by ews3 on 5/4/2009 & rated 88 points: nice, seemed less sweet than i remember the last bottle. lime, green apple, slate (3093 views)
Tasted by AMM3RD on 4/12/2009: Served at a Easter Dinner. I only had a quick taste. Same as usual, this is very good stuff. Drink now and over the next year or two. Fresh acidity and fresh fruit. Always a great QPR...AMM (3196 views)
Tasted by Pool Boy on 3/31/2009 & rated 89 points: I really enjoyed this bottle and I like this producer more and more. Solid apple, stones (granite and some marble chips) dominated with some nice acidity this time around to handle the slight sweetness to the wine. Delicious. 89 points. (3045 views)
Tasted by AMM3RD on 11/11/2008 & rated 90 points: This is pretty good stuff. I enjoyed this very much. Light floral scent and citrus fruit on the nose. Well balanced with a great mouth feel. Will buy again. Recommended...AMM (3307 views)
Tasted by salil on 11/8/2008 & rated 88 points: Finger Lakes/German Riesling shootout (Glenora Wine Cellars, Finger Lakes): A slightly shy nose shows some citrus zest, pear and stony mineral notes. Very pleasant on the palate with orange, lime and nectarine flavours and a little residual sweetness. I did not pick this as a Finger Lakes Riesling in the tasting, and this was by far the most impressive wine from that area. (3940 views)
Tasted by salil on 11/8/2008 & rated 82 points: Finger Lakes/German Riesling shootout (Glenora Wine Cellars, Finger Lakes): From a second bottle placed elsewhere in the tasting. Floral character, slightly sweet with nectarine and lime flavours on the nose and palate and good acidity. There's some noticeable residual sugar on the back that stands apart from the other flavours. May have suffered in comparison with the Donnhoff. (3975 views)
Tasted by LPskeleton on 9/10/2008 & rated 89 points: Nose of minerals, kiwi and lemon. Fresh palate of mango, lemon, tangy acidity and a drying finish of mineral. Delish. (3262 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 9/3/2008 & rated 89 points: Gourmet Dinner #1- All American Summer Fare (Chateau VinoMe): This was gift from a friend who lives in upstate New York. Opened before dinner as we sat in the backyard. This was an impressive Riesling from a producer who has a very good reputation. It had a unique sweet/sour component. Although labelled as dry it did have a touch of sweetness to it. Primarily apple notes. 88-89 points. (4016 views)
Tasted by VinoVeritasVosLiberabit on 5/27/2008 & rated 90 points: nice sharp acidity backed up well by a hint of sweetness. green apple and pineapple tang on the nose. lovely rich mouthfeel. my favorite riesling. i have to disagree with GV on this one, i like the riesling better than the gewurtztraminer. (3851 views)
Tasted by Zinny on 5/16/2008 & rated 88 points: My favorite of the Fingerlakes wines I've tasted - I really liked it!! Grapefruit, lemon, honey, ginger . .all good stuff and enough minerality, acidity and interest to make it worthy of a grilled chicken dinner . . or a sunny afternoon. (3580 views)
Tasted by Pool Boy on 3/10/2008 & rated 88 points: Very good. 88pts (3275 views)
Tasted by Pool Boy on 1/19/2008 & rated 89 points: Nice bottle. A tad sweet for a 'dry' wine, but very good flavors of honey, honeysuckle, overripe pear and some citrus. 89 pts. (3606 views)
Tasted by ews3 on 12/24/2007: consistent with past note (3629 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
