Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 95.3 pts. and median of 95 pts. in 25 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by DnL Cellars on 11/8/2022 & rated 95 points: Election night bottle. Better the second night, softened a little of the bitterness from night one. Or maybe that was the election. Great nose, long finish, not hedonistic. Probably five years or so in the prime drinking window in my opinion but we aren't huge fans of killing a wine with age. (1023 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 6/19/2020 & rated 95 points: Decanted and served with beef brisket. Delicious and interesting expression of St. Helena single-vineyard fruit. Medium-plus body, blueberry liqueur, crushed rock, wet earth although not the smoky charred earth sometimes found in St. Helena Cabernet. Not a hedonistic wine but worth trying for the pure expression of terroir if you have a chance. At peak, not going anywhere any time soon. (2564 views)
Tasted by TexasBob on 11/15/2019 & rated 94 points: Deep, placid, beautiful red in color. Delicious potpourri with a touch of cinnamon on the slightly spicy nose. Intense notes of milk chocolate and blueberry pie on the front palette that transitions to blackberry tannins and cocoa through the finish. Really delicious with at least two layers of flavor. (2239 views)
Tasted by retired_and_roving on 8/15/2019: Napa with friends; 8/15/2019-8/18/2019 (Napa, CA): From magnum. Starting to enter it drinking window and nicely pulled together. Darker red fruits and spice, some earth and dried leaves but there is still acidity here, long finish. Clearly a new world wine, but not over done. (2694 views)
Tasted by Teknsteel on 5/20/2019 & rated 98 points: Deep garnet. Game, funk and spices on the nose. Add saddle leather and plum on the palate. Mature and good to go. Flirting with perfection. (2495 views)
Tasted by rickwunderwood@yahoo.com on 2/3/2019 & rated 100 points: Voluptuous and racy in the glass, with terrific freshness, the 2007 Quella has it all. Raspberry jam, blood orange and sweet floral notes add brightness throughout. Silky, ripe and alluring, the 2007 is one of the many standouts in this vintage. The 2007 drinks well now but it will hold for another 10-15 years. (1998 views)
Tasted by J-Sho on 5/14/2018 & rated 94 points: Eleven years old but still in it's prime. Nose evolves in glass starting with obvious loamy earth and mineral but with developing tobacco all overlying subtle dark/red fruits. Palate medium with well integrated tannins and a beautiful finish. (1790 views)
Tasted by Bcw1989 on 9/17/2017 & rated 94 points: Popped and decanted. Tannins have subsided and shows lots of red fruit. Finish was incredible and very opulent. Great bottle of wine to drink with dinner. (1961 views)
Tasted by npettit on 7/21/2016 & rated 95 points: The wine was very smooth upon opening, but became more tannic as time went on. I wish i had some time to let it clam back down. Regardless, a very good wine. (2437 views)
Tasted by rdsboca on 12/19/2012 & rated 94 points: Softer and rounder than the 2005 Vecina. More of a red fruit profile. Supple and opulent. (5561 views)
Tasted by vinomex on 3/13/2012 & rated 94 points: Part of the Cult Cabernet Part 3 Tasting NYC Tasting Group. Medium body, young, modern cali cab but with nice subtle nuances of a more complex wine that yet to be fully developed. This wine while good, it did blow me away and it has a way to go. (5609 views)
Tasted by GreatLibations on 3/14/2011 & rated 96 points: Mostly black currant with cassis, cocoa, and tobacco notes tightly wound in a tannic straight jacket. Minerality seems to be standard issue for these wines. These wines are more stylish but packed with power. Medium body and very Bordeaux like. (5852 views)

BOND: A portfolio of wines that are diverse in their geographic representation and 'Grand Cru' in quality, all under the umbrella of one philosophy, one team, one mark.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
