Tasted by Somm David T on 4/17/2020 & rated 90 points: This one falls into the just ok category. I had hoped for a little more after 12 years in bottle.

If you like big, very dark Cabernets, then this one is for you.

While it had nice integration, well rounded and was smooth, its fruits are all very dark, blackberries, black raspberries, black plum & some dark cherries. Almost nothing in the way of mid red fruits. Heavy on; tarriness, very dark spice and the darkest of expressos. Baking spices; clove, nutmeg, some cinnamon and dull vanilla. Dry top soil & clay, stones, dry crushed rocks, touch of dry herbs with withering dark & red flowers. The acidity was round and nicely done. The long finish is elegant, smooth, somewhat balanced but, all primary in terms of darks tones.

This will age for another 10–15 years with proper storage. (1628 views)
Tasted by SchlaepDog on 3/2/2017 & rated 92 points: Lots of creamy black cherry and red cherry fruit with a nice streak of Rutherford dust. More cherry fruit lingers on the medium long finish with well integrated tannins and a silky texture plus just enough acidity to keep it fresh. Mature and around peak, drink now through 2018. Good stuff. (3864 views)
Tasted by Snag One on 11/19/2015 & rated 88 points: Deep ruby red color. Still a little acidic and tannic but nice layers of ripe figs, toast, coffee, licorice and spices. (5673 views)
Tasted by PourSomeRed on 11/12/2015 & rated 91 points: This was great. Classic Rutherford nose. Dark fruit balanced with earth. Nice lengthy finish. (5548 views)
Tasted by Snag One on 8/26/2015 & rated 88 points: Nice deep red color. Not a big nose but nice mouthfeel. Flavors of blueberries, strawberries, red licorice and tobacco. Short but pleasant finish. At its peak or just beyond peak. (5801 views)
Tasted by PourSomeRed on 10/12/2014 & rated 91 points: Really enjoyed this. Well balanced. The fruit is ripe but not too dark. Nice finish as well. (6141 views)
Tasted by EMark on 9/28/2014: Herbal, viney nose but with some hints of berry fruit. Initial hit of currants on the tip of the tongue. Then, there are hits from tannin and acid. A perfectly functional wine, but it does not seem to have much depth and complexity. Additional air seemed to calm down the tannin, but that only seemed to add to the berry fruit. (3891 views)
Tasted by PourSomeRed on 2/23/2014 & rated 90 points: Not sure what I drank 2 years ago, but this was a really big fruity cab. This needs 2-3 years to balance out. It drinks well now if you like this style of cabernet. (3292 views)
Tasted by BSZach1 on 2/8/2014 & rated 90 points: hints of leather or tobacco. Balanced. Smooth. (3299 views)
Tasted by homerfan33 on 1/5/2014 & rated 91 points: Still a big wine. Good drinking now but could also use a year or two, if that is your style (3295 views)
Tasted by WinoTim on 12/8/2013 & rated 87 points: A big Cab that needs some more time in the bottle. Still pretty rough in my opinion. I prefer something a little more subtle. (2415 views)
Tasted by Cuellar's Cellar on 12/1/2013 & rated 89 points: blackberry, savory coffee, chocolate and smoky oak, this wine would be great with BBQ (2397 views)
Tasted by Cuellar's Cellar on 10/21/2013 & rated 89 points: The wine looks Crimson colored. The legs are Fast. It smells like Strawberry, Cranberry, and Black currant (cassis). It tastes like Light toast, and Chocolate. The body is Light/Medium. The wine has Smooth texture. The wine finishes Medium. (1862 views)
Tasted by 88rebel on 9/1/2013 & rated 93 points: Magnum with friends (2156 views)
Tasted by rfras on 8/10/2013 & rated 91 points: Similar to my last note. (1948 views)
Tasted by jlhkiss on 4/5/2013 & rated 89 points: Solid-structured wine that is reasonably balanced. Good black currents, spice box, mocha, dark cherries, but tail is very crisp and tannic. Rutherford dust felt like a sandstorm. Did not notice much improvement with food, but overall, solid wine that will most likely show much better after 2020. This one is built to last like a lot of the 2006s. Decant 3+ hours or hold. (2587 views)
Tasted by rfras on 11/26/2012 & rated 91 points: Nice pleasant drinking cab that can use some decanting. I did not decant, popped and poured but, on day 2 it really opened up. Not an overpowering cab, but good cherry flavors integrated with some coffee notes that finish smoothly. (3421 views)
Tasted by ddgd on 6/19/2012 & rated 91 points: Long on taste and high on desire. Full-bodied, very drinkable now and a classic Rutherford wine. (4019 views)
Tasted by daisy1212 on 5/28/2012 & rated 91 points: rich berry flavor up front with nice chocolate and coffee notes on the finish. very flexible, drank well without a decant. excellent choice for napa cab in the $30-40 range. (3913 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 5/7/2012 & rated 89 points: Blackberry, oak and pepper notes are classic for Provenance though this was not as complex or excellent as some other vintages or their Beckstoffer to Kalon bottling. Still very good. (3875 views)
Tasted by JoeReb on 3/26/2012 & rated 93 points: Wonderful wine with strong aromas of ripe dark fruit and lovely flavors of cherry and blackberry with a smooth chocolate finnish. (3839 views)
Tasted by PourSomeRed on 3/2/2012 & rated 91 points: Really liked this. Not a huge cabernet, but a really balanced one that was pleasant to drink. (3362 views)
Tasted by km5 on 1/22/2012: Liked it a lot. Black fruit
(3881 views)
Tasted by TexasBob on 10/13/2011 & rated 92 points: Bright red. black fruit nose. Sweet black fruits. Very mild tar and coffee, mild black pepper, sweet blackberries, laced with black pepper. Drunk with Stash in Houston, gift of Karen Arnold. (4873 views)
Tasted by Zuperdaave on 10/9/2011 & rated 90 points: Delicious. Oak, cherries on the nose. Full-bodied cherry flavor. Not as exceptional as I remember the last one a few months ago, but still a good, solid Cabernet. (4895 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
