Community Tasting Notes (average 88.7 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 9 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by kostaslonis on 11/26/2015 & rated 89 points: Ramos Pinto Tasting (Warehouse bar): This is the Adriano Reserva tawny bottling, aged for 6-7 years is barrels.
Interesting nose with dried fig, prunes, blackcurrant, dates, a bit leathery wtih clove and nutmeg coming from the back. With time chocolate notes emerge but so does the alcohol (19.50%).
In the palate you get a bigger alcohol burn too but a wider flavor range. Figs, prunes, blackcurrant and blackberry, orange peel, dried fig and banana, cinnamon and nutmeg. There is a rather nice chocolate & coffee infused roundness at the end that tries to keep the alcohol in check. The wine ends with a med finish.
Very good quality, drink now or hold. The question for this one is whether you drink it slightly colder to avoid the alcohol but also lose some of the complexity or not. Whatever you do, this is a very nice tawny port. (1759 views)
Tasted by Lyubomir Lefterov on 1/14/2013 & rated 90 points: Dark ruby color, this one is close to LBVs as stucture and emotions. This bottle is filtered and ready to go, all the port aromas are here, enjoyed it over two weeks - delicious will buy again. (2422 views)
Tasted by jazzb on 5/21/2012: russin, vanilj, gummi, torkad frukt, mogen fylligt söt (2648 views)
Tasted by cousteau on 12/3/2006 & rated 88 points: This seems to be midway between a fine ruby and a young tawny. The color is right in the middle with a ruby red core surrounded by a large mapple syrup/brick rim. The nose shows the nice port like fruit and some dried nuts too. A little hot and not very long finish. (3391 views)
Tasted by cab on 1/1/2005: A little plasticky up front, but really nice. Complex, spicy, cotton candy. Enjoyed this a lot over the course of about 4 days. Would get more if we could. (3890 views)

Port Blend

Over a hundred varieties of grapes (castas) are sanctioned for port production, although only five (Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional) are widely cultivated and used.

Reserva

Still Portuguese table wines of designated origin may also be labelled "reserva", indicating an alcohol content of at least 0.5% higher than the legal minimum established by the respective DOC or VR; however, stricter requirements in individual DOCs may supersede this standard.
