No fireworks here. Nice to sip on but nothing to write home about. (1274 views) | | Tasted by marcmene on 6/9/2023: Gifted to wjotek/lee for engagement (1359 views) | | Tasted by Redteeth on 12/11/2022: This bottle was better than the last one and much more in line with what I'd expected from this producer; dried cherry fruit, a bit of earth/leather, and a hint of sage. (1939 views) | | Tasted by Not647f on 12/4/2022: Opened at friend's place with a few other wines. I figured the 2012 would be a little bit of an early drinker, so took it over a 2010. I tend to agree with Redteeth. This was a little disappointing for a Barbi BdM. Might be the vintage. My wife, a BdM fan, was favoring a Syrah that I also opened, so that tells me something. We'll see if I really have one more as my inventory says, and how it is. Maybe wait 6 mos but I don't see anything here that tells me that time in any measure is the issue. (1958 views) | | Tasted by Redteeth on 11/26/2022: This bottle received a thorough decanting. Still, it took quite a while to open up. We found the wine initially to exhibit a bit more sourness and tannin than expected. We saved half the bottle, and it improved meaningfully the next evening. While it ultimately proved enjoyable, i was expecting more from the wine. Or is it the vintage? I'll open another bottle soon and see how it compares. (1929 views) | | Tasted by eyewino on 11/18/2022 & rated 92 points: PnP taste. Then after decanting. Beautiful garnet with bricking to orange with a thin watery rim. Classic nose of cherry and dried herbs with high notes of sweet tobacco. Full-bodied on the palate with strong tannins, dark cherry, and a bit of orange pith. Long finish. Very good.
Upon opening, the cherry was quite sour and the tannins were massive. Through the first hour in the decanter, the cherry mellowed to a more fresh and even slightly sweet state. Likewise, the tannins became much smoother and gentle. Drink now through 2030 with at least an hour or two of decanting. Looks like it will be a very good vintage. (984 views) | | Tasted by bluepeter2020@outlook.com on 9/11/2022 & rated 91 points: Tannins still dominant, huge. Used Vinturi to aerate. Became a wonderful experience! I'll wait another 5 years to open the next bottle. (918 views) | | Tasted by jocelyng on 5/6/2022 & rated 90 points: A vintage not up with the best for this wine. (1495 views) | | Tasted by jocelyng on 4/23/2022 & rated 91 points: Bright red cherry upfront with medium mouth. Cranberry and boysenberry on the finish. Drink now and for the next 2-3 years. (1424 views) | | Tasted by AAJR on 1/21/2022 & rated 90 points: PnP’d. Slight bricking color. Flavors of red cherries & herbs. Light bodied. (1724 views) | | Tasted by Bellissimo on 11/18/2021: Last minute decision before dinner. Got a a quick 30 minute decant. Served with a rich, spicy pasta dinner and finished later in the evening.
Pretty classic flavor profile with cherry / dried herbs / stewed tomato thing going on. Decent amount of acids up front, tannins are pleasant but this is still a little amped up bigger wine that shows the warmer vintage. (1691 views) | | Tasted by Wine Diplomats on 9/4/2021 & rated 92 points: In contrast to the 2015 Montevertine tasted earlier, this was more classic for me with cherry, citrus, herbs and spice. There’s a little pepper. Baslamic notes. A nice balance and integration of fruit, acid and savoury notes. It’s not the most profound Brunello, but there are tannins for further aging. Remains classic and red-fruited despite the warm vintage.

Tannins have mellowed somewhat brining more of a dark cherry flavor. Well balanced. Very nice wine but maybe a little thinner than expected? This bottle was brilliant ruby; lively and extremely tasty. Ready to drink for sure, and since I much prefer my Italian wines younger rather than older, we shall drink my final bottle of this next weekend. 🤞that it is as good as tonight’s. Awesome 🍷 (2772 views) | | Tasted by Bellissimo on 7/15/2020: Bigger wine with a lot of the things we enjoy about Brunello's, just amped up. (2439 views) | | Tasted by TorbenDP on 6/14/2020: Hylde 4 (2345 views) | | Tasted by mat600 on 2/2/2020 & rated 83 points: Vin qui est une déception pour moi. Une chauffe en bouche, fruit cuit. Bof. 83 sur 100. (3143 views) | | Tasted by rmalloy on 1/14/2020 & rated 94 points: I liked it more than most of the 2010 brunellos I have been drinking. Full bodied with medium acidity and firm tannins. Still on the upswing. (2985 views) | | Tasted by jadricha on 11/24/2019: Still some more time but good qpr (2420 views) | | Tasted by adamanko on 10/22/2019 & rated 88 points: A bit shy to start with and at first it's the alcohole that strikes me. And that doesn't go away during the evening. But after an hour or so I get dusty cherries, chocolate, liqourice. A little later sweet blackberries/plums visit. But the alcohole is still there. Maybe it's me? But I will let my last bottle rest for a few years or so. 88. (2897 views) | | Tasted by jda907 on 8/31/2019 & rated 87 points: Lots of cherry. Should have let it age a while longer. | SangioveseSANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se"). Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]
Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.Italy Italian Wines (ItalianMade.com, The Italian Trade Commission) | Italian Wine Guide on the WineDoctorTuscany Tuscany (ItalianMade.com) | TuscanytMontalcino Montalcino websiteBrunello di Montalcino Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino (Official DOCG website) |
