Tasted by fcxj on 4/12/2024 & rated 88 points: Quaffable. (612 views)
Tasted by despore on 3/25/2024 & rated 90 points: A: medium ruby, clean
N: ripe red raspberry, red cherry, dust, rhubarb, cinnamon, vanilla, Mediterranean scrub
P: dry, high acidity, high medium grained tannins, medium body, 14% ABV
C: very good wine = balanced ripe fruit and acidity, med (+) intensity, med complexity, med (+) finish on red cherry and dust, drink now or hold for coming 5-8 years. (602 views)
Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 3/23/2024 & rated 91 points: Purchased as two consecutive by-the-glass orders from the same newly-uncorked bottle, this medium-to-deep ruby wine (100% Sangiovese) was serially tasted over a 90-minute interval. Intensely aromatic, it offers an array of red currant and Montmorency cherry fruit that is accented with notes of cinnamon, cocoa, coriander, lavender and loamy earth. Medium-bodied, freshly acidic, seamlessly alcoholic (14%) and with well-integrated wood, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose, wrapped with a modicum of silky-textured tannins. Nicely dense on the mid-palate and lengthy on the finish, this is a delicious Chianti Classico that can be successfully paired with just about any Italian tomato-based dish. Give it an hour or more of air if possible. Drink now-2028. (652 views)
Tasted by nobluda on 1/23/2024 & rated 91 points: 기본 끼안티 클라시코에 이 와인보다 뭘 더 기대할 수 있을까 싶을 정도로 기본기가 탄탄하고 잘 다듬어진 끼안티. 매력적인 산미와 튀지 않는 신선한 과실의 미디엄 바디. 너무 모범생스러운게 흠이라면 흠. (917 views)
Tasted by cork breath on 1/20/2024 & rated 90 points: Good simple vino (869 views)
Tasted by danchaq on 1/13/2024 & rated 90 points: Needed a good hour in the glass to come out into florals and a dark minerality. After another hour the bramble fruit appeared in between. The next day it was more relaxed with the same notes but no signs of fading. Balanced and polished but lacking somewhat in intensity. Second bottle of six and hoping it will give more in time. (822 views)
Tasted by ppandian on 11/6/2023 & rated 91 points: Fantastic balance of acidity, fruit and smooth tannins. Lively on the palate. Notes of restrained cherries.. (1212 views)
Tasted by tomoem on 9/19/2023 & rated 91 points: On the nose it is mildly aromatic with a nose of cherry. In mouth it is more wood driven with a smoothing mouthfeel. I get a background of citrus with an acidic backbone that may support aginig. (1393 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 9/1/2023 & rated 90 points: Popped and poured. Lovely red fruited, elegant chianti. Non-chalant, easy going but nicely balanced with flavors of red cherry, plum, olives and herbs. Not a lot of depth. (1145 views)
Tasted by mjohn on 7/29/2023 & rated 91 points: Medium ruby. The nose was reticent but over time opened up to nice cherry, floral, and tomato leaf aromas. Polished medium bodied palate, fresh acidity and balanced fine grained tannins. The finish was a bit spritzy at first but smoothed out with nice length and a bit of licorice root mixed with black and red fruit. Very good but I think this can still improve with time. (1129 views)
Tasted by Nairb Øjram on 7/23/2023 & rated 92 points: Farven meget flot, gennemsigtig, mellemrød. Ikke blå men heller ikke begyndende brun. Man kan se bunden. Meget klar.
Tasted by ThijsV on 7/23/2023 & rated 90 points: Earthy, chocolate, coffee, fresh cranberry, pure fruit, cherry. Medium + acidity, medium+ finish. Would benefit from a couple of years. 90-91 (1155 views)
Tasted by Capt Cutlass on 6/19/2023 & rated 88 points: Not sure about this one… it’s creamy, very oaky with some blood orange notes. But seems lacking in essential acidity and structure to age. However, given that it’s so unruly now, I’m going to have to wait at least 2 or 3 years for my next bottle. Anyone out there who knows what the optimum drinking window is on this?? (932 views)
Tasted by chatters on 5/13/2023: Tuscany (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Medium minus intensity aromas of savoury cherry, a little sweet spice, a touch of earthy underpin, smidge of fresh herbs, nice nose. Medium plus intensity acidity, tight cherry, slight woody tannins, savoury cherry fruit, needs time, slightly out of whack with non-intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish. Hmm to okay. (1202 views)
Tasted by GArpaia on 4/2/2023: Medium ruby. Med+ intensity. Red fruit and sweet spices. Mint. Med+ acidity. Med+ fine tannins. Very Balanced, lacking concentration. 14% abv. Long, round, finish. (1103 views)
Tasted by chaloneri on 3/23/2023 & rated 92 points: Always really good, mid ruby colour, not masses on the nose but lovely on the palate. Cherry, juicy fruits with a really persistent finish. (1000 views)
Tasted by Rote Kappelle on 3/5/2023 & rated 91 points: Have you ever developed a set against something before you have actually tried it? I did this with Dire Straits 'Brothers in Arms' because I had become disgusted with the mass acceptance of a band that I had come to love when they were a sort of underground (in a rather popular way) thing. Despite the evident quality of BIA, I have never really been able to shake this. So it is with Querciabella. Why, oh why, Delilah?

I think I really bought this so I could prove to myself that it was bogus. An example of how outside money and a flair for making 'international' wine styles was part of what made Chianti infuriating.

The problem is that I tried Querciabella at least a decade too late. Their Chianti Classico has been undergoing a steady evolution - the proportion of Cabernet and other grapes has been steadily reduced, the amount of Snagiovese increasing, the role of ham fisted, Spaghetti Western oak treatment steadily declining.

I really hate to say it, but this is a lovely and quite pure Chianti Classico. There is gorgeously ripe cherry, some smoke/earth and tar, a whisper of thyme, wonderfully fresh acid that never strays into hard and sour, perfect tannins that you feel on the sides of the mouth after you swallow and that are bitter and sweet. Mouthfeel is delightful - velvet at first then the tannin and acid kick in. Brilliant with a seared lamb backstrap salad. Length is fantastic, intensity is very good, there is perhaps a slight hole on the palate, but I think you are getting a lot for your money here and, best of all, it is so evidently Chianti. That I love.

I still can't shake the sense they are cheating and I just haven't caught them out yet. A bit like Dire Straits and their last real album; 40 years on and I just know I will solve the puzzle and prove that BIA is bogus pap made for the unwashed. In the meantime, if looking for a lovely Chianti experience, this wine will work whilst I spend another 40 years trying to crack the code. (1643 views)
Tasted by jonathanknowles on 3/2/2023 & rated 90 points: Red cherry, acetone, beautiful smell, herbal, some cinnamon perhaps. Orange peel. Medium bodied, crystal purity, tangy fresh fruit. Excellent. (970 views)
Tasted by Echinosum on 1/3/2023 flawed bottle: Corked.

Once again I buy a bottle something to taste it, and it is corked. Opened the 2nd bottle, and confirmed it. Tried the clingfilm trick, but made no difference. (892 views)
Tasted by Echinosum on 1/3/2023: The reserve bottle, because the other one was corked. Opened to have a taste of Querciabella.

Tbh I didn't learn very much, nor was I wowed in comparison to my usual Volpaia and Isole e Olena. OK, so you can drink this now as a very pleasant bottle of Chianti, but it didn't jump out of the glass at me. You can pay a lot less money for that. Nor did it develop very much over 4 days. I had hoped for more than that. I suspect this wine doesn't arrive and show its quality for several years yet, but I don't have the skill to be confident of that.

14%. Covered well. Too easy to drink and get squiffy. (1111 views)
Tasted by jonathanknowles on 11/19/2022 & rated 90 points: Sour cherry, herbal, tobacco. Fresh an green. Powdery tannin, iron. Candied orange peel. Medium bodied, good concentration, very pure fruit. Excellent. (873 views)
Tasted by Biggsy on 11/3/2022 & rated 90 points: Lay & Wheeler Italy Growers' Tasting: Brief notes: Floral nose. Bright and vibrant with lots of cherry fruit, violets and raspberry. Fine tannins, great acidity. Always a great Chianti Classico. (890 views)

Tasted by chatters on 7/14/2022: Querciabella (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): cherry, a little sweet spice, tiny touch of caramel and herby underpin plus a slightly jubey/candy floss note. Medium plus intensity acidity is juicy, cherry, light and slightly coarse tannins, smidge of non-intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish and a touch of greenness. Hmm compared to the 2017 but okay in isolation. (1353 views)
Tasted by chatters on 6/25/2022: Sangiovese Mini Expo (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Meaty, savoury, a little sweet spice, cherry, slight tobacco leaf. Medium plus intensity acidity, chalk textured tannins lend a little cedary note to the palate to accompany the cherry fruit. Simple, well made, nice. (1111 views)

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
