Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.4 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 71 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by atbarbar on 3/23/2024: Over the hill, also not clear how the bottle had been stored. Very dark gold color, super oxydized if not maderized nose. Lacks freshness on the palate. Soso vintagemost likely contributes. A pity. (168 views)
Tasted by Michael Hung on 11/12/2023 & rated 89 points: Tasted over the hill, maybe a few years too late on this bottle. Slight oxidization (could be premox?), lacking the acid and tension especially when next to the Ente Meursault. (503 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 11/12/2023 flawed bottle: Sadly oxidize… (473 views)
Tasted by Sperls on 2/20/2023 & rated 86 points: Drinkable but alas either premox or over the hill. Not what was expected but had some interesting elements. A big let-down though. (939 views)
Tasted by TWSA on 10/21/2022 & rated 92 points: Nose: honeysuckle, brioche, mango, vanilla
Notes: Quite a good nose upon opening. Medium to full bodied with a bread and caramel like aftertaste. This is certainly a very well conditioned Leflaive and what a classical leflaive should taste and smell like. What surprised me is that the color is still so light and vibrant. This is drinking quite perfectly now and I doubt if this will get any better with time. I feel the premox problem in white Burgundies is stopping many wine lovers from opening back vintages and I'm feeling lucky today for having this wonderful bottle.

Tasted by vinkeger on 4/30/2022 & rated 86 points: En flaske som skapte opphetet diskusjon rundt bordet. Årgangen er vel regnet som en av de svakere hos Leflaive. Alle var nok enige i at denne hadde kommet veldig langt og ikke var en stor vin. Men hvor representativ/korrekt flasken var, var det flere teorier om.

Jeg fant lite å like i denne. (1388 views)
Tasted by steinersing on 5/11/2021 & rated 92 points: Drinking quite well and evolution where it should be. Would drink this now. Pretty. (2386 views)
Tasted by EvanJB on 7/3/2020: Wonderful bottle. Golden yellow, very nice fruit, full body (2467 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 5/27/2020 flawed bottle: oxidized (2578 views)
Tasted by sphBacchus on 4/12/2020 & rated 93 points: Really worried about the oxidation of the Leflaive bottles purchased in this vintage but no problem at all with this one . And these are special when singing like this one - if only there was consistency . (2169 views)
Tasted by hansenscw on 12/10/2019 & rated 80 points: My wife and I opened our last bottle. We had the same reaction, summarised in one word: sherry. How can such a prestigious vineyard produce such inconsistent wine? Frankly, it is a disgrace (2240 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 11/2/2019 flawed bottle: Puligny-Montrachet les Pucelles - blind tasting 1998-2011: Very slight cork here, but still drinkable. Some apricot and lime, steely. I would rate it around 92. (2676 views)
Tasted by apblr.wine on 9/7/2019 & rated 95 points: No premox, good concentration, beautiful golden hue, restraint butter and honeysuckle on the nose, long finish with good evolution (1673 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 1/8/2019 & rated 92 points: Masterclass. Not poxed! Floral, clean and refined. (2113 views)
Tasted by robferguson1 on 7/1/2018 & rated 93 points: Very advanced in colour and aged on nose , wonderful but now at peak (2518 views)
Tasted by sphBacchus on 5/20/2018: Another one oxidised which you can suspect from the deepness of the colour on the first pour . Stark contrast to the 2011 Olivier Leflaive PM Pucelles which we had at a restaurant on Saturday which was quite wonderful . (2421 views)
Tasted by Levantine on 1/3/2018 flawed bottle: Oxidised
Pity, (2490 views)
Tasted by robferguson1 on 9/30/2017 & rated 92 points: This is a brilliant wine, almost sweet and sugary with so much fruit , great secondary but still good life, golden colour . (2626 views)
Tasted by NJwineguy on 7/31/2017 flawed bottle: premox (2583 views)
Tasted by NJwineguy on 7/21/2017 & rated 87 points: Past prime a bit but decent. Slight whiff of premox. (2084 views)
Tasted by NJwineguy on 7/14/2017 flawed bottle: Awful. Premox. Corked. You name it (2015 views)
Tasted by NJwineguy on 7/4/2017 & rated 90 points: In its stride.
Nice balance all around. (1931 views)
Tasted by NJwineguy on 6/24/2017 flawed bottle: Premox.
Undrinkable (1732 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 6/20/2017 & rated 90 points: Post Musique et Vin Festival Concert Dinners (Château du Clos de Vougeot): Small glass, brief note. Very ripe but balanced. Long and powerful, even iff slightly less nuanced than this wine in the best vintages. Nicely fresh, this is one of the best bottles of this wine I can ever recall. (2253 views)
Tasted by Levantine on 1/6/2017: I was expecting a bit more tension and nervousness
But too advanced and oxidized
Still enjoyable but....
Fits few notes better marzipan, spice, lemon
Then oxidative tones took over (1812 views)

Burgundy-Report (12/1/2008)
(Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles) The nose here is gorgeous - a little understated maybe - high-toned fruit wrapped in a soft coating, but lovely. In the mouth finally we have a wine with the correct balance of concentration and acidity - it’s really excellent. Head and shoulders above the previous wines though still a laughable 169 swiss francs.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
