| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.1 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 60 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by vinojones on 8/19/2017 & rated 93 points: pale gold; nose of honey, ripe (orange type of) melon,a little brioche; rich melon, ripe peach and a little lemon flavors backed by crisp acidity; full bodied but the acidity keeps it lively and refreshing; long finish by SB standards. One of the best SB,certainly from Calif that I've had. Vinous review notes it is 67% Sauvignon Musque- probably the source of the honey like sweetness. (1891 views) | | Tasted by Roboticduffer on 10/14/2015 & rated 92 points: Clear gold. Honey, guava, pineapple and a light mineralogy on the nose. Slightly oxidised. Some bitter almond/floral notes. Full bodied, with medium acidity. (2289 views) | | Tasted by tomlee on 6/16/2013 & rated 91 points: Gold and straw colored. 14.3% ABV. Lemon and grass on the nose. Pear, pineapple, honeysuckle and citrus on the palate. Rich and creamy. Great mouthfeel. The wine is lush and decadent. Paired beautifully with a chicken ceasar salad. Drink over the next year or so. (3160 views) | | Tasted by Wine Drinker on 9/23/2012 & rated 92 points: Very impressive considering its age. It needed about a half and hour to show itself. Nice fall fruit flavors (apple, pear) with some tropical and floral notes and a very nice long finish. (3518 views) | | Tasted by smphelps on 9/19/2012 & rated 92 points: Opened with a whiff of menthol that dissipated completely in about 15 minutes. Distinctly gold in the glass. After 15 minutes or so the nose turned tropical with ripe pear, pineapple, cream, vanilla, and melons. I suspect I would not have correctly identified the wine as SB blind. The wine apparently sees some french oak, and that is discernable. Rich and creamy to the tongue. Long finish. 14.3 alcohol. From the strikingly good, and aged, list at the Lousianna Purchase, Banner Elk N.C. Beautify balanced and creamy citrus and tropical fruit flavors with finish that lasts forever. Great example of an older SB from California that can last. (2669 views) | | Tasted by Harry Cantrell on 2/27/2010 & rated 91 points: Pale yellow. Nose more on the spice side with a hint of grass. Mouth rich, a hint of acid. Nice. (2151 views) | | Tasted by jbro on 9/27/2009 & rated 88 points: Interesting, but not necessarily great. Compared with a $9.00 bottle of Dashwood New Zealand SB from Costco, is this really worth more than five times the purchase price? That said, this was much more complex than the Dashwood, with lots going on. Much more minerality than fruit, or at least the fruit was much more subtle.Long finish for an SB. Best drunk at cellar temperature or even warmer (2227 views) | | Tasted by Mrbuzz on 7/30/2009 & rated 90 points: Alc. burn has not subsided.....still tropical and tasty, but I'm liking it less and less, especially after having some Greystack, Merry Edwards, Altamura, Mondavi Reserve Fume. And they are cheaper too! (2331 views) | | Tasted by buckeye76 on 5/29/2009 & rated 93 points: PINEAPLE AND FLORAL NOSE WITH NICE CRISP ACIDITY AND CITRUS FLAVORS. MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH. (500 views) | | Tasted by Harry Cantrell on 1/20/2009 & rated 92 points: pale yellow. Nose all flowers and some freshly picked herbs. Taste was all that and some nice uplift by the acidity. (2605 views) | | Tasted by wineismylife on 1/1/2009 & rated 92 points: WIML92+. Unfortunately my notes were lost. (2580 views) | | Tasted by robefunk on 12/15/2008 & rated 88 points: Delicious, great wine to start a meal with, very tasty. Tasted December 13, 2008.
14.3% alcohol. Opened and served immediately. Held strong well past the two hour mark. Light yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Somewhat light/elegant nose of sea foam, grapefruit, grass and lychee. Flavors of peach, grapefuit and lime over a medium finish. Medium acidity and body. You might be able to hold this a little longer but I'd recommend drinking now. (1933 views) | | Tasted by JDRFoster on 11/28/2008 & rated 92 points: Vibrant fruit. Citrus, tropical fruits and honey. (2631 views) | | Tasted by JDRFoster on 10/10/2008 & rated 91 points: Consistent with prior notes. (2663 views) | | Tasted by davidspieker on 10/4/2008 & rated 92 points: Beautiful. Floral and citrus nose with rich, creamy, citrus flavors. Nicely balanced with a finish that lasts forever. (2823 views) | | Tasted by stevetimko on 8/30/2008: Nice sauvignon blanc. On the nose I got the grassyness and the grapefruit. On the palate, more of the grapefruit along with other citrus flavors. More depth than most sauvignon blancs with a nice creamy texture. Very good finish. The depth and texture make this wine stand out. (2629 views) | | Tasted by JDRFoster on 8/28/2008 & rated 91 points: Beautiful, with notes of tropical fruit, cirus, and flowers, with a whiff of vanilla oak. (2679 views) | | Tasted by Mrbuzz on 7/29/2008: Mmmmmmm! (2660 views) | | Tasted by danstrings on 7/27/2008 & rated 90 points: BBQ Elvin Julie Cyn and gang -- Has mellowed out a lot, but still loaded with great juicy grapefruit, lemon/lime and spice. (2667 views) | | Tasted by JDRFoster on 7/24/2008 & rated 91 points: Smoother mouthfeel than most SBs, with floral notes, tropical fruits, light citrus. Very good. (2749 views) | | Tasted by JScott on 7/14/2008: Consistent showing. A somewhat bigger style of Sauv Blanc. (2711 views) | | Tasted by Ki Punwar on 7/12/2008: Beautiful aromas of melon, guava and pineapple in the glass-complex mouthfeel that is rich and dry...very enjoyable with a long aftertaste, one of the better sauvignon blancs I have had along with Spottswoode. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
