Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.9 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 41 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by NickA on 5/28/2023 & rated 93 points: Just very good, not brilliant like the 2014 and the 2017. Very Dauvissat, with an intense beam of salty lime and freshly cut grass, then a soupcon of vanilla from the elevage. A touch of hyancinth on the nose with more air. Notably bitter and long on the finish, like taking a draft of undersweetened lemonade and then sucking on a pebble. Really enjoyed this, but a wine that (nowadays) costs this much needs to perform even better to offer reasonable QPR. (721 views)
Tasted by llink on 1/4/2023 & rated 90 points: Decanted for 1 hour. Iodine, lemon and some brothy vitamins on the nose. Deep but lively and savory palate, lemony fruit and good acidity (658 views)
Tasted by LW31 on 11/23/2022: Superb tonight. A point. Great energy and notes of iodine, salty, yellow fruit, medium body. Pèrfect with sea urchin (558 views)
Tasted by chbeaumont on 7/8/2022 & rated 94 points: Pale; oystershell, fresh as a daisy; saline, focused, penetrating, resonant; extended finish. Full of vigour, will drink well for a further decade. (868 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 6/28/2022: Medium yellow that still retains a glint of green. Some sulfur and lots of salty broth on the nose. Medium weight, savory, great acidity, and like licking a block of salt. I know that this will be a reach for many people, but between the sulfur and the salt, the primordial mix reminded me of the experience of visiting the Kilauea volcano caldera after an eruption as steam was still venting. At any rate, terrific and fresh. (1200 views)
Tasted by Jammy Wine on 1/16/2022 & rated 89 points: First glass was a bit muted and a touch lactic, but it blossomed beautifully after sitting 15 minutes in the glass. Generous ripe citrus fruits and creamy toast. Forward and concentrated with maturing fruits, impressive balance of salinity and dry extract, quite delicious. Although not as good as Raveneau in 2010. (89/100) (1247 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 11/19/2021: Full yellow. Fresh lemon scents along with a bit of sea mist. Medium weight, bracing acidity, herb, and stone. Just as it was 3 years ago, poised on knife's edge between retaining its essential lean core and adding the flesh that early maturity brings. Because of this, it worked beautifully with briny oysters early in the meal when it was on the cooler side and equally well with richer fish dishes as it warmed. A wonderful bottle that at least partially assuaged several notable recent disappointments with Dauvissat wines. (1277 views)
Tasted by BenBlu on 11/13/2021 & rated 92 points: Blind - nobody guessed the Chablis, humiliating game this blind tasting dinners ;-) I felt it had some maturity and was guessing 05 white Burg, Puligny 1er. Quite mellow with honeyed red apple. In a nice spot. (1021 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 12/12/2020: There's a drizzle of honey over river rocks, coupled with plenty of saline mineral notes. With air you get some lavender and apricot, perhaps from some botrytis? It is dense and chalky, with good intensity and complexity. It is ready to go. (1549 views)
Tasted by jhw425 on 9/8/2019 & rated 93 points: Consistent with prior note. Maybe a little more intense with more power and that old barrel funk/salinity. Just awesome (1731 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 8/30/2019 & rated 95 points: Light yellow; chalky, flinty, citrus; rich and intense, nice acidity and structure, lots of chalk and citrus, lots of taste, seems at its prime; excellent (1487 views)
Tasted by jhw425 on 7/28/2019 & rated 93 points: Awesome. Light gold color, could have guessed 5 years younger. Best dauvissat in a while and somewhat restoring my trust in the ~10 year old ones. Had that great salinity that is unmistakably dauvissat. (1474 views)
Tasted by hoonan on 6/14/2019 flawed bottle: Oxidized (1477 views)
Tasted by hoonan on 6/7/2019 flawed bottle: Oxidized (1207 views)
Tasted by aekenback on 3/16/2019 & rated 93 points: Elegant, pure and very classy chablis. Restored my faith in Dauvissat after a number of dissapointing showings. (1071 views)
Tasted by emzee.mc on 11/22/2018 & rated 92 points: A revisit of this in 2 years, and my evaluation is still more or less similar. The wine pours a straw golden color with long legs no doubt because of the ripeness of the vintage. Bouquet is pungent and yields lemon meringue pie, prunes, honey, oyster shells, sultanas, butter, puff pastry. Despite this being Chablis, I get a generousness to it even though the wine is more on the lean, angular side. That said, judicious oak use definitely worked its magic. The opulent mouthfeel is moderated by streaks or minerals and high acids, which is very welcoming to cut through the fat. Oyster shells, quince, gooseberries, lemon meringue pie and starfruit are all present. At this point, the flavors are still very primary. That said, the harmonious balance between fruit, oak, smokiness, acidity and minerals is quite mesmerizing. Finish is long and redolent of raw clams. Love the unabashed salinity married with copious amounts sour fruit and minerals. (1304 views)
Tasted by LW31 on 8/30/2018: Great showing tonight. Great energy, seashells, iodine, with lemon/bright yellow fruits. Beguiling complexity for 1er and for Sechet. Pretty perfect I’d say at this stage but probably another few years of development and then will last strong still 2028 say. Beauty with oysters. (1294 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 4/18/2018: Spontaneous Mini-Paulée-Roumier, Rousseau, Raveneau... (Burgundy): Much fresher, leaner, and more lemony than the 2010 Raveneau Vaillons that came before it. Fantastic terroir and acidity. We happened to taste 2016 and 2004 Sechet today, and texturally, this was between those 2 in transitioning from its youthful strict, stony character to gaining more flesh. This could easily last another decade. (2145 views)
Tasted by richard.presser on 12/15/2017 & rated 91 points: Wonderful complex, lifted nose. Quite rich and well developed. Surprisingly rich for a chablis. Palate is similarly full and rich, more WB than Chablis. A lovely drink now, but just a tad open knit for chablis and the acid is only just there. I would enjoy it now if I had it in my cellar. This fits with the comments of the man who's drunk 31 of his 36 bottles... A gorgeous drink. (1624 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 11/21/2017: my note from earlier this month says it well (1510 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 11/19/2017 & rated 90 points: not as good as the earlier bottles... felt a little too rounded with some caramel elements coming in, I like it higher, tighter and brighter... wonder if this wine is in a hole temporarily... having drunk 33 of my 36 bottles I guess I might take chance and wait a few / 5 years to see if it comes around... it was so GREAT in 2014 / 2015'ish (1441 views)
Tasted by cardsandwine on 4/20/2017: Gorgeous light yellow hue and a pleasant citrus bouquet. Nice balance, complexity, with excellent acidity for aging. In the early stages of drinking, will definitely improve with cellar time. (2003 views)
Tasted by Bakerbd on 4/9/2017 & rated 91 points: Round, preserved lemon, mineral. Not as much acid and cut as I was expecting. (1686 views)
Tasted by emzee.mc on 9/23/2016 & rated 92 points: Chilled, popped and poured in a light, rustic golden color with thick long legs. On the get go, the concentration of the nose is just remarkable. Plenty of citrus, honey, lemon curd, polished stones, and just a touch of gunk. Really refined and vibrant nose. On the palate, mouthwatering acidity hits first. Lushness and checking minerality then follow to keep things in perfect balance. Just like the nose, the palate is mostly comprised of citrus, minerals, wet stones, honeysuckle, and a faint touch of oak. Finish is long and complex with lingering acidity. This really hits the spot and is a fine specimen of the region's style - bright, acidic, plush and well-defined. Despite the relative youth, this is drinking well now. (2025 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 8/9/2016 & rated 91 points: super wine again, my 11/14/15 note applies although I would call this bottle just a hint more rounded, maybe the bottle of perhaps the 6 months... it has always felt like this wine was meant for near term drinking... I better get going on my 15 more bottles (I have already consumed 20 believe it or not) (2031 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
