Community Tasting Notes (average 92.5 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 77 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by fclarity on 10/14/2023 & rated 94 points: A slightly more advanced bottle. Funky and light at first but developed over the course of several hours of air to be impressive. Pushing 95 points. (583 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 5/22/2023 & rated 92 points: Pausing for the Cause Fundraiser and Dinner (Galit - Chicago IL): From magnum. I am so glad I gave this enough time and tried the wine a couple of times through the evening. This was ripe but unforthcoming to start (despite it being decanted in advance), but slowly and begrudgingly emerged into a rich beauty with caramel apple and honeycomb coming through after an hour or so in glass. (1731 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 5/22/2023 & rated 94 points: It was time. En magnum. Color was great and the initial taste confirmed it would be good. Decanted for an hr and it helped. In the glass, the wine evolved nicely and did not disappoint those who had an opportunity to taste this wine. (836 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 10/23/2021 & rated 95 points: From a god looking bottle with a 2.5 cm fill, this wine had a deep yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose demonstrated creme brûlée, lemon, lime, and white stone.

In the mouth, this wine was extremely balanced great richness, strong integrated acidity, and huge stony length.

This took 4+ hours of air to open up. It was certainly at its peak but will last years. Outstanding! (1819 views)
Tasted by bavaur on 9/12/2021 & rated 95 points: Chilled and then decanted 30 minutes before dinner. As soon as the ah-so touched the cork it slid straight into the bottle which didn’t give me much confidence. Decanting it showed a light golden colour and some dark sediment left in the bottle. But on the first sniff my fears were dispelled and I got resounding flavours of werther’s originals with nothing oxidative about it. Despite the age this really doesn’t have a heavy profile but it’s not exactly faded either. If anything I was expecting more tertiary/oxidative flavours but instead I got more toffee/fudge/marzipan flavours and the slightest hint of pineapple, but nothing on the scale of even the most subtle Sonoma Chardonnay. I don’t think this is going to gain anything more but this bottle was in a great spot and doesn’t feel like it’s going anywhere fast. Super match with pan-fried salmon. (1746 views)
Tasted by ron m on 5/24/2021: I have fond memories of this bottling as this was one of the first a-ha! moments in my wine journey many years ago. Today this was a little oxidized and somewhat fading but still good. Oxidized notes mostly blew off after 15 minutes and the wine was still fresh. The nose was kaleidoscopic - shifting between flowers, peach, and creme brulee. The palate was harmonious but did not leave a strong impression. Decent finish. This is all about the nose. Paired wonderfully (surprisingly well!) with La Bernardin black cod in ginger scallion nage. A treat at 20 years old. (1700 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 9/6/2020 & rated 95 points: From a perfect bottle, this wine had a deep yellow center and clear rims. The high- intensity nose generated notes of apples, citrus, white stone, and vanilla.

In the mouth, this wine was rich and ripe with great acidity and awesome length. The balance was excellent.

This bottle was good right out of the gate but certainly improved after 5 hours in a decanter. It started out around a 93 and hit 96 on a few sips. However, I will say it was overall a 95 point bottle that would easily have lasted another 10 years. (2009 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 7/4/2020 & rated 94 points: Nice bottle, nice bright light gold center. Medium+ intensity nose of lemons, marzipan, minerals, and apples.

This bottle, blossomed beautifully with air. It had a touch of extra wood at first but the minerals and lemon hid that with time. The length also developed well.

Drink now but will last. (2120 views)
Tasted by shifter on 4/10/2020 & rated 85 points: Very reduced. Honey and mineral on the nose is fairly pleasant. Heavy barnyard, funky cheese, a touch of minerality left, but no fruit on the palate. (2162 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 3/15/2020 & rated 90 points: The Last Supper (Before the Covid-19 Shutdown) (El Ideas): From magnum. Gorgeous nose that was so layered and complex with smoky orchard fruit, spice and minerals. Palate however was not as compelling. Still fresh but this was simple and light weight in the mouth and i wanted so much more based on the nose. (2492 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 3/15/2020 & rated 94 points: Brilliant color for its age and a Wonderful format, magnum. Decanted at 3pm and developed and evolved over the course of the dinner. It not hit its stride till a couple of hours later. Oh my. Tasty. (1939 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/15/2020 & rated 89 points: Last Wine Dinner Before the Coronavirus Shutdown (EL Ideas - Chicago IL): From magnum. Clearly ripe with good Grand Cru concentration, with enough freshness to remain interesting at this age. Earth, stone fruit and spice all work well together, but this started losing steam the longer it stayed in glass. (2625 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 12/28/2019 & rated 88 points: Would have drunk better 10 years ago. (2077 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 7/6/2019 & rated 95 points: From a good looking bottle with a 2 cm fill, this wine had a light gold center with clear rims. The nose evolved over 4 hours in a decanter. It was a bit more cinnamon at first but actually became fresher with air. Toward the end it displayed lemon, green apple, white stone, and almond paste.

In the mouth, this bottle was profound. It had great richness, refinement, balance, flavor, and awesome length. It was a 90 point wine out of the gate and slowly ramped up after several hours of aeration. Broadbent said this was the best vintage of L.L. Corton Charlie and it is hard to argue.

While this is 100% ready, this wine should hold at this level for at least 5 years. There was no hesitation about this bottle. It was a solid 95 point wine at the 3-4 hour mark. After 5-6 hours of air it started going down hill. Drink this outstanding wine up! (2912 views)
 Tasted by Raizes on 12/7/2018 & rated 91 points: 外观偏金黄色且略有浑浊,但在明显的氧化酱油味之外,依然有热带水果的完整果香,以及八角、太妃糖、焦糖和满口的杏仁味。接近三十年光阴的洗礼没有抹去浓郁的桶味,不过因为酸度漂亮,酒的平衡并没有被打破。现在喝依然出色。 (3587 views)
Tasted by Winedad53 on 10/3/2018 & rated 73 points: Bad bottle. Hours and hours of air, never came around. Disappointing. (3544 views)
Tasted by sung251 on 8/31/2018 & rated 92 points: wine is not over the hill but there is zero reason to wait on this if you still have any bottles. The wine has great balance but I STRONGLY recommend you decant this and drink this slowly over many hours, the nose and flavors will eventually evolve into this caramel drizzled creme brulee which is just sublime (3555 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 3/5/2017 & rated 94 points: Another outstanding bottle! (5114 views)
Tasted by ATBridge on 12/22/2016: Wish I'd seen fclarity's note about the extended air time. This bottle had a golden honey color very correct nose of mature fruit. Lacked the grip of truly great Corton. Largely cnsumed at the beginning of the meal with a few sips left at the ends, and the last sips were indeed the best. (4044 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 12/17/2016 & rated 95 points: Form a good looking bottle, this wine had a deep yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose showed apple pie, cinnamon, lemons, and white stone.

This wine was in the 90-91 point range for the first 3 hours of air. However, after hour 5 it kicked into another gear showing great richness, firm acidity, and excellent length. The balance was impeccable!

This bottle was just at its peak and will certainly stay there for 10+ years. This wine really should be ranked 94+ and I have rated it 94 so many times that I gave it a 95 to emphasize the +. If you have a great looking bottle of this wine and you do not give it 5 hours in a decanter BEFORE you start drinking it, you are cheating yourself out of an excellent experience! (3307 views)

Tasted by paul195 on 6/12/2016 & rated 93 points: Red and White Burgundy Pairs -- Recent Release (2013) vs Mature (1978, 1990, 2002) (The Lot (Brooklyn)): Last bottle of three bought on release.

Much closer to the first bottle I had roughly four years ago. Medium gold, lush texture, laced with apricots, honey suckle, some hazelnut as well. Sufficient acidity and structure to balance and frame this wines richness and finish. Very nice mature CC (4386 views)
Tasted by sdr on 3/27/2016: Recent WineBid purchase, perfectly sound, excellent condition, improved over 2 hours. (2383 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 3/12/2016 & rated 94 points: From a pretty good looking magnum, this wine had deep yellow/gold center with clear rims (a bit darker than I was hoping). The medium+ intensity nose displayed citrus, eggshell, almond paste, toffee, and some white stone.

In the mouth, this wine was rich and ripe with great acidity and excellent length. While the flavors are a touch advanced, the balance is tremendous and it is still quite enjoyable.

While this particular bottle was obviously not perfectly stored, it was still an excellent drink. (2284 views)
Tasted by sdr on 2/6/2016 & rated 90 points: Apricots, peaches, apples, just on the verge of over-ripe; that's the flavor profile of this well preserved wine, a recent purchase from WineBid. It's refreshing to taste old white burgundy from before the premox scourge. At age 26, this wine is still lively and refused to fade over a 3 hour period in the glass. But puzzlingly, it became more linear and simple over that time. Still, for its modest price it's a winner and enjoyable if not profound. (2347 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
